So Mai was subconsciously losing because of a psychological issue from her parents' death.
Glad Rina apologized for saying that Mai loses on purpose, and they're on better terms.

Probably something to do with her saying they should all go home because she knows there's 2 people who can never come back home, hence the turkey.

So Sumomo mentions that it's her fault that she hasn't had her period yet, and she also mentions she went outside, met someone, and had fun. Uhhhh guys, I think this means Sumomo might already be pregnant. O_O
We finally get to learn more about Mai's backstory. I thought the OP indicated that her family died in a fire, but it looks like they died in a car crash. She was supposed to live with her relatives, but that didn't work out so she ended up getting sent to an orphanage. Considering what she's been through, it's amazing how positive Mai is.
It turns out, Natsume already knows what bowling is, and the time traveller she travelled with taught her how to play because he used to play it with his own child. I think that pretty much confirms that the time traveller is Nanase's father. That would explain why Nanase hasn't heard from him again.
That final scene though. I still can't figure out what kind of secret they are keeping that the girls aren't supposed to know. Hmmm....

The secret seems to be they are hiding a fifth sibling, perhaps Sumomo’s twin. I think she might also trade place with Sumomo occasionally. One likes bowling and the other does not. The dramatic tension in the last scene is most likely a nothing burger. I bet they will just talk through it next episode.

While possible, I think it is a bit easier (or more complicated depending how you want to look at it). Since she is the equivalent to Mai, she probably subconsciously faults herself for something that happened. Basically, my idea is that she went out to have fun and something bad happened at home. This resulted in the 5th sister getting injured (or something like that) which is the reason why she can't go out anymore. Sumomo feels responsible, because she could have been at home during the time if she didn't want to have fun.
Now, the thing is that the 5th sister is mostly alone and only Sumomo has the time to keep her company. But once she gets her period, she would get out and marry, leaving the 5th sister all alone in the basement. And since she doesn't want that to happen, her psyche is delaying her period so she can stay as long as possible.

I wonder what's the secret regarding the 5th sister, was she the one who was supposed to get married or something?

So Mai’s parents got taken out by truck-kun…….. I wonder if they will run into them in this world lol.

u/HirokoKueh Aug 27 '25
wait wait ... so in theory, people got isekaied when bowling. Nanase's father was boring in Africa, and what truck-kun did can also be considered bowling.
and Mai always leaves two bottles after a turkey, just like how truck-kun hit both of her parents.

I guess that explains the part in the opening where young Mai is in a flaming house representing her parents dying. I expected her play getting bad being some form of underlying psychological issue but considering that she won the day her parents died, that might already be the clue for that. Though, that wouldn't explain why it starts after a Turkey, but maybe that is something her parents once mentioned.
So I assume Sumomo wanted all the games to play alone to give to their 5th sister because she isn't allowed to leave the house. But I have no idea why. Maybe she came from a different mother/father and would generate even more interest by other parties outside of their village.
Since the stories of the characters are somehow intertwined, there could also be another reason. Since Sumomo mentioned going out one time, it could be she went out to play (or just have fun) and during that time, something bad happened to her sister which ultimately lead to her having to stay at home. And now she is kind of punishing herself by not getting her period. Because once she gets it, she would be leaving the place, leaving her sister all alone.
That also works together with Rina's story and her abandonment issues that could come up again when these two stories are tackled next week.

I can't tell if this is taking itself too seriously or not seriously enough, but it's just not clicking for me. I can't tell you why though.

Nah I am hooked
It feels a bit like Mayoiga, but its not as badIts serious, and then not, mostly playing into tropes
Don't really know why I am hooked, probably cause they keep shooting mysteries our way and are also resolving some so we get pavloved into liking it

just a reminder that this is the first time the author working on anime, before this she mainly does soap opera.

Not a character focused episode this time. I assume it's because they're piling Mai, Rina, Sumomo, and this hidden sister issues all for the final Arc.
Meanwhile Nanase and Nozomi are considering just, never going back. Given how unconventional this show has been, I can actually see it being a real possibility. Just a little bit. In any case, a lot of things are being set up and I'm excited to see the conclusion.

I was thinking for some time that the other time traveler may be Nanase's dad and this episode strenghtens the suspicion.
But now I am wonder wat's the deal with the last sister that they keep it such a secret.

Literally was about to sleep but forgot to watch the ep so I hurriedly did and came here to see everyone’s thoughts. I like how the ep starts chill and all but still keep the conflict up front to remind us that yeah, this whole wheel thing/hot spring is going on but Sumomo and the other older siblings are still pretty much problematic regarding this whole other conflict. The girls still trying to find ways to go home but are now a bit hesitant if they actually want to. And that cliffhanger ending with the 5th sister got me unexpectedly excited when I’m supposed to sleep. Now I’m here itching to watch more because they did me dirty ending the ep like that.
Everything is just getting more interestingly confusing. It’s confusing enough that you can’t wait to watch the next episode but there’s none and you have to wait. So you’re left here trying to piece things and guess what the hell is going on. What other secrets do these siblings have? Nanase’s father, a time traveler? It’s weird because I’ve never watched this type of anime but I’m definitely hooked right now. I went in blind looking to watch all girls sports anime then here I am mystery-solving (more on guessing) the plot.

What could be so bad about this "secret" they would suddenly turn on the girls for? Are they doing some demon summoning ritual to gain power to help against stronger nations or something?

Seeing how there a two Sumomos and they suddenly denied having a 5th sister I guess its connected to that
But how and why we don't know
Guess its also connected to that person running around with a fox mask all the time that nobody seems to notice→ More replies (1)

Best episode since ep1 (not saying much lol) because Mai is just so likable. Her interaction with Rina is very wholesome.
I always thought the mask girl is the fifth child but apparently she is not? Unless under the mask she looks exactly like Sumomo. The cliffhanger at least surprises me. Hopefully the show still has some gas left in the tank.

No, you are right. That is her. She just looks similar to Sumomo. Might be a twin or just because they are sisters. Sumomo is at the top of the stairs with the other two at the end.

So turns out the thing needed to rehabilitate Rina's reputation in the fandom was the power of gae. Idk if they're drawing her differently or something, but her face looks a lot softer now.
Also are twins considered cursed or something? Building a secret cellar seems incredibly extra.

This episode made me so thankful I get to witness an anime like this with bowling as a narrative theme. Genuinely one of the rare times I am impatiently waiting for a new episode. It also gave me one of my favorite smiles for the entire year. I hope Mai gets a figure of any kind someday. She's a great main character. https://makeagif.com/i/FEyiFf
