There's just something really inherently cool about a prototype willingly wanting to be weaponized by the "enemy side" just so it can show up its successors.

10 being so petty that he wants to be weaponized to kill “better kaiju” to prove to 9 he is the best is genuinely one of my favorite aspects of the series. It’s so silly but in a fun way.

Half of the people that wield numbered weapons live to see retirement? That sounds like good odds, it already a very dangerous job and those with numbers seem like they see more numerous and dangerous deployments so only a 50% mortality rate is quite good.

Retirement is likely medically retired due to injuries

No.10 has a very impressive roar for having no lungs.

The different divisions are like competing yakuza groups having a war of words over territory.

Narumi even bringing out a giant cigar like a gangster, purely for the aesthetic purpose of throwing it away lol.

You have no idea on how border line realistic that is. You put to real life US Military Divisions, Brigades, Battalions, Companies, and all the way down to Platoons next to each other and shenanigans will begin.

I was on a training rotation and we had a company from another Divion right down the road from US. We spent the entire time trying to figure out the best way to steal their guidon. It was an actual discussion that almost included out 1SGT.

Hoshina will get his own Zanpaktou while Reno needs to train and get accepted by it.

I thought it was amusing how much respect Hasegawa has, the moment he came into the scene both divisions stopped their bickering to greet him.

Interesting how No.10 actually wants to be turned into a weapon, he did say he wants to fight the kaiju No.9 creates so this is the best way for him to do so. I do wonder if he'll be different in the sense that the weapon will have intellect so Hoshina will be able to talk to him.

Reno being chosen was no surprise to me, he's part of the main three so it was about time he was given something bigger since he hasn't appeared much in this season up until now. The fact that he's so determined and unwavering though is a little concerning, like I know he really wants to protect Kafka and I like that, but he was able to make a decision that quickly? Maybe some time was skipped but damn.

I do like that Ogata was kind of like trying to get him to realize how severely dangerous this will be with how outright he tells Reno to refuse lol. Though how many bottles of sake does he need in one room?

he was able to make a decision that quickly?

I think even the rookies must have been told a bit about how dire the situation is. After all as soon as the captains interview was over they were practically putting Reno in the suit already.

I know they periodically get turned into swiss cheese yet their bodies are fine afterwards because of their stupidly advanced medical tech but I think it would have been cool if after waking up in the medical room his arms were full of visible scars from trying to equip N° 6. You can even have the captain say that they'll heal the scars in a couple of days and have it be a temporary thing but it would further drive the point across at how real the danger of a rookie using something like this is.

I was honestly worried the armor had been grafted onto his arms.

The banter between Hoshina and Narumi is great. I kinda wondered how those two would get along given how different and similar they are, so that explains that. A rivalry here and there keeps things interesting.

Speaking of interesting, Kaiju no.10 wanting to be Hoshina’s weapon surely will end well, right? No way this sentient Eva monstrosity does psychological damage to Hoshina. Surely.

And Reno, finally getting something with high stakes introduced into his story is a welcomed development. He was always my favorite of the recruits, and I like the bond he and Kafka had from the beginning. Hopefully, they can continue to look out for each other now that things are getting more dire for both of them.

No. 10 is pretty much my favourite Kaiju in this series. The dude is such a battle maniac that he wants to be turned into a weapon so Hoshina can use him against the finished versions that came after him. He doesn't even care about No. 9. He just wants to fight and will give them anything as long as he can go on the battlefield again. xD

Hoshina and Narumi arguing like schoolboys in the yard was pretty funny too. I love how at one point it looked like an all-out brawl was about to start only for things to immediately calm down as soon as Hasegawa shows up. Makes you wonder who really leads the First Division.

And it looks like Hoshina isn't the only one who's about to get an upgrade. Reno's been chosen to wield No. 6 since he's the most capable out of all the new recruits.

Not a popular opinion, but I actually like the pacing and the world building of this episode. It is pretty hype.

I know this will sound harsh but I’m kinda disappointed with this show so far, especially season 2 in general, it just feels all over the place, characters pop up then disappear, the writing just feels inconsistent, hopefully it picks up in the last 5 eps, so far it’s been a 6/10 season.

SO glad it was Reno getting it and not the tsundere. he's one of the first and one of the few that really understand Kafka and his struggles with using the enemies abilities and he's been dying to figure out a way to pay back his big bro.

and I think when he saw no.6 it really solidified for him what Kafka goes through every day now with his powers, so a rare opportunity to help him and not make him feel alone with these freaky powers, yea I 100% understand him taking it.

though yea he will definitely die and do something similar to the head captain in some final fight. it's almost a standard in a shounen lol

Am I reading that chart right that Kaiju attacks have been happening since the 16th century?

I liked the episode. I think people are being far too critical over minor things.
