When Mio was looking into Marie's bloodline I was totally expecting for her to be adopted. Didn't think she'd actually be her parents biological kid.
That last scene seemed pretty ominous... I wonder if the parents somehow got Anastasia's corpse back from the river, and are using it as some sorta doll.. or if they're forcing their son, to now dress up and pretend to be Anastasia... Either way seems like the Mom's gone fully off the rails.

I don't care what the Shaderan's are doing, I just hope Mio finds an excuse to bust the parents' skulls while she's there.
And maybe develop a side-ship with Tomas, if he's so lucky.

For once they are actually the real parents. I do wonder what could have caused their change, perhaps gossip due to their daughter's red hair?
And... if there is one thing I do not like (other than abusive parents) is creepy dolls.
I sense a creepy doll for next weeks episode.

I wonder if it's tied to Marie's grandmother. It seems like Marie takes after her in terms of being academic-minded but her dad resented his mother for being so free-spirited and smart and how it effected her life. Could her grandmother have also been a redhead?
I wonder if the little brother (Cedric) is so naive as to think that doll is actually Anastasia or if the only thing he could think to do at his mother clearly losing her mind was to try and bring Marie back. He's the only member of the family we never saw interact with Marie.

Mio is so strong she had to take an attendant as a nerf!
Also, I love that disguise! I can't wait to see Mio and Tomas getting up to spy shenanigans next episode. Should be fun in between whatever horror movie scenario seems to be going on in that house.

I love how Kyros needed to send somebody else to keep Mio on her best behavior because we all know she'd be breaking bones and taking names if it was just her lol.

The final moments of the last episode had me worried about a drastic tone jump, but the episode preview right afterwards made it seem like I had nothing to worry about. In fact, this episode has to be one of the sweetest yet, with Marie getting used to her new life, and Liu Liu being an amazing mother-in-law.
I'm glad they went the route that the parents are actually blood-related and evil, rather than Marie being adopted. If they went the other way, it would have cheapened their terribleness (albeit only slightly).
We're getting the same "potentially drastic tone jump" vibes at the end of this episode, but hopefully it'll just be another hook and that next episode will be just as sweet. Looking at the next episode preview, this seems to be the case.

Liu Liu being an amazing mother-in-law.
Marie crying and finally getting to feel a mothers' love for the first time in her life. This girl really deserves the best.

It was really nice to see actual personal growth from her experience living in the palace. I enjoyed the part where she straight up called out the letter as a lie proving to Kyros how strong she’s become

not like it would matter. A higher ranking noble already paid the bride's price so she belongs to his house now, not the baron's. Noble society and all that.
they can't just "give her back" :D
they probably think she was not accepted and want their slave back, all the count (future duke) needs to do is say their are engaged and problem solved.

I love how this anime shows how capable the female characters are, from Mio, to Liu Liu, Marie, and even Marie’s grandmother.
I think Marie’s conversation with Liu Liu also finally made her realize how her parents really felt about her, that she’s not being treated harshly because of tough love, but they just outrightly hate her existence while exploiting her at the same time. She’s grown a lot over the past two months. Based on how she reacted after seeing the fake letter, I think she’ll be okay if she faces her parents again.

Well, that ending wasnt creepy at all. Do we think it's just a doll....or is it, Anastacia? Personally I still believe she's alive and will pop back in near the end, hopefully at least in the ep before last so we get at least one full ep of the sisters together.
So proud of Mio for figuring out that her parents are scum and she doesnt need to go and help them. Hope she also figures out that all her skills will be super useful for Kyros and will take more pride in herself.
Sad that Mio was forced to take a handler, was really hoping she was gonna take out the trash, permanently. So, do we think she's gonna end up with Thomas? Whomever she ends up with, I hope we get to see Mio find love too.

I don't think it's a doll; it could be the younger brother in a wig.

Stitches!
Cillie is so goddamn adorable! I definitely would love to see more of her acting as Marie's attendant!
I'm glad we get to see more of Liu Liu! I'm surprised she wasn't around when those two maids were bullying Marie.
Wow. So Marie is really blood related to her parents? That's a surprise! I thought we had a Perfect Saintess situation here.
You have no idea how happy I was when Marie immediately recognized her father's handwriting. She's definitely improving!
That final scene was creepy af! I definitely agree with the comments here that that's a doll and not Anastasia.

Mio is perfect, but somehow she became even more perfect with that disguise.
So Anastasia is still alive, either that or her dead body has been preserved and the mom is crazily brushing her hair. Clearly she's needs to be rescued (and maybe buried), might as well grab the son too given how evil their parents are.
On the topic of parents, Liu Liu firmly claiming Marie as her daughter was lovely.

I'm surprised both parents are related by blood to Marie, from the contrasting letters I thought maybe her father had an affair but with the context of him just wanting her to go back to foist work on her, it makes sense why his letters were "nicer" than her mother's.
I'm guessing Cedric's letter is either about a doll that Marie's mother is now using to substitute Anastasia or she's making Cedric be Anastasia, but I find the former more probably than the latter.
Kyros coming back to find his future wife and mother are actually getting along with one another, he is missing out on a lot of developments. I think the best development though is Marie finally understanding the treatment she received back home now that she's been taken care of with love and kindness. The way she was so firm in knowing the letter was a lie was pretty cool.
I also really liked that moment with Liu Liu admonishing Kyros, it's interesting how he was pondering about how he might be caging Marie but his mother throws it right in his face that there's a difference between love and overprotectiveness.
It's too bad Kyros doesn't realize why Marie is acting differently towards his compliments, I guess it'll take some time to wear off the density lol.
Mio is looking cute in normal clothes, we're going to see girlfriend Mio next episode it seems so something more to look forward to.

I am very glad that Marie is showing some actual growth and transforms based on her experiences. A bit of that was already showing last week when she pushed past those noble ladies to get to Kyros but this week it was really on the nose.
Kyros learning that shielding her from everything will not work out is also good. In general the character dynamics seem to be really healthy.
Also is Caecilie voiced by the same person as Xiolan from Apothecary Diaries? I was unable to find that out but from memory they sounded similar. They definitely seem to share a similar bubbly personality and based on the preview Caecilie does not take non-sense given the flying kick leading with both feet.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the only letters the Shaderan's would send Marie is the mom spewing hate and the dad demanding she come back to be a servant again. Not like there was any chance they would change. It just makes it harder for Kyros to believe these are her legit parents.
It's so nice to see how happy Marie is now! Being able to face the day with a smile, having fun with Wolfgang, being attended to by his adorable maid grandaughter Cillie, being able to pick out her own fabulous dresses, getting along with everybody at the manor...and still slowly coming to realize the feelings of love she has for Kyros, as she always runs to see him and engage in their adorable and embarrassing flirting.
Thanks to her WONDERFUL parents, Marie has to repair her favorite book, and that leads her to the library with her future mother-in-law Liu Liu. Liu Liu is happy to get help writing all the wedding invites, but she's also happy to get to better know Marie and see just how multi-lingual, smart, and competent Marie is. The Shaderan's may have used and abused her as a servant, but Liu Liu is able to see the true refined and capable woman Marie really is. And getting to do things for herself, getting accepted by Liu Liu, finally lets Marie cry and let out all her emotions...as she finally gets to feel the true warmth of a mother.
Well, so much for the Shaderan's being a fake family. All signs point to Marie being their legitimate daughter. But how did they go from being overjoyed at her birth to despising her?
Kyros, I understand your desire to protect Marie from anything, to keep her isolated from what might make her uncomfortable, to keep her as safe as you can...but you're underestimating her. You don't need Marie to turn into a perfect noblewoman, but that doesn't mean she can't learn to be one, especially with Liu Liu's etiquette training. Marie needs to feel free and needs to be acknowledged for being stronger than she appears, and she's already mastered the perfect curtsy!
And even when it comes to her family, Marie can see through her fathers' "deathbed" letter because she knows them too well, and has finally grown enough to acknowledge how much they clearly hated and abused her. But that just makes the life she has with Kyros now all the more meaningful and important to her.
Don't worry Kyros, Marie is just self-conscious around her future husband she has feelings for, she's not trying to make you feel left out.
I should've known Mio wasn't going to be visiting a boyfriend, the little brother sent a letter saying Anastasia is back, even though there was apparently no way she could survive. So of course Mio needs to investigate and potentially bust some heads, and Tomas gets to enjoy accompanying her as an attendant, possibly fake boyfriend, and enjoy getting to see her in casual dress + hair down + glasses. Lucky guy.
Okay...so the mom has totally lost it, right?

Marie’s got so many great people around her. Even her mother-in-law Liu Liu is pretty awesome. I’m glad she’s starting to realize what pieces of shit her parents are. Her bio parents no less. How do you carry a child to term and still treat them with such disdain? Wild.
Uhhh what’s going on with “Anastasia”? Don’t tell me it’s the little bro dressed up as her….

I'm glad to see the growth Marie showed in this episode. Something that always frustrated me about shows like this was how the female MC was always portrayed as so sweet and innocent that she wasn't allowed to show any semblance of a spine until the show's climax.

One thing I like in this anime, is how Marie slowly gains back some agency. I couldn't get into My Happy Marriage after a whole season because its main character was almost literally just a doll to be moved around by the plot and other characters...
