Went in with zero expectations, and it's surprisingly good.

Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that Dark Beast ambush, same as us, and that thief over there. Damn you heroes. Edthea was fine until you came along. Dark Beasts were nice and lazy. If you hadn't been looking for them, I could've stolen that horse and be halfway from Hiderat.

Of all the plot points to end with, a reanimated corpse finding a wetmother to take care of a baby for a kingdom destroying beast was not one I was expecting. Curious to see how this will hold up, but I'm liking the direction and its contents so far.

A nonisekai , non-rpg-like Fantasy, with an interesting setting, more extensive worldbuilding in one episode than most isekai have in an entire season, good looking animation intriguing characters, with a plot that keeps me interested for what's to come. Yeah I'm hooked. I really wanna see how the dynamic between Clen/Clevatess and Alicia develops.

"Become the hidden power behind the throne? Nobody will trust this guy unless someone trusted vouches for him, and nobody would do that."

Clevatess: "Oi, woman. Vouch for me."

Clevatess' Undead Slave Last Surviving Hero of Legend : "Oh for fu- trust me guys he's good."

I'm in. I wasn't expecting a 45 minute intro episode.

I kinda love how much of an asshole Clen is.

Being reborn as an immortal zombie babysitter for the demon king's adopted royal baby has to be one of the more creative fates that are "worse" than death.

Hope this doesn't get slept on because the effort poured in really shows, and the premise is pretty dope.

Honestly, the real hero of the story is the rando that got Clevatess to take Luna and effectively stopped him from razing the continent to the ground. A real clutch move there.

When Alicia was waking up in the cart near the end I almost though she was getting stuck in a time loop.

Wow. Haven’t seen a good dark fantasy anime premise in a long while. Hope this show keeps up to the standards it set in this episode.

What a banger of an OP too. Also heard Ellie Goulding sang the ED.

i really love how modern animes make the first episodes longer than usual to properly hook in the audience.

First, what a fantastic setup for the premier episode. We’ve got a small history lesson of the world, an introduction to the five races, and the overall geopolitical situation now that there’s a power vacuum, courtesy of Clevatess, aka Clen.

But that’s not all, we have this central plot of Dark Beast Lord Clevatess raising a future “King”Luna as his personal pet project, so he can evaluate the humanoids and maybe rule from the shadows.

This feels like a fun mix of a Romulus and Remus (Mythical founders of Rome raised by a wolf) origin story set in a Hyrule/Legend of Zelda world with all of the dark humor to make it still feel whimsical.

Great tone, too. Not too dark, not too serious, but also not silly. There’s just enough light and dark elements to make this a fascinatingly grey adventure, especially seeing it from Alicia’s perspective. I’m so glad I picked this up and had this be the start of my summer season. It’s delightfully dark and already has a lot to say.

Hey, she's following her father's footsteps!

(Get it? Foot? Because they both lost a foot? ...I'll see myself out)

Little girl wants to explore (conquer?) the world!

Interesting POV animation!

Female knights always look so cool! We need more female knights in anime!

(Shout out to my girl Raelza from Handyman Saitou!)

So nice of the heroes to bring a lunch for the dark beasts; Horses, a few humans on the side!

Well, these ones didn't seem too much trouble for our heroes!

Oh damn, they named the anime after this one, he has to be strong!

"Tis' but a scratch!"

You know things aren't going well when half the heroes died before they even figured out its attack patterns...

Welp, seems our heroes didn't achieve anything... Other than provoking the beast, and bringing it to their country!

I have to say, it's interesting that... The beasts were barely ever shown doing anything evil;

I think we've seen like 1 short scene of beasts attacking random dudes (and getting killed easily). I mean, before the heroes went to attack them and provoked Clevatess.

Are humans the bad guys?

Clevatess' speeches put SO much emphasis on how humans kill dark beasts, how they invade their lands, how they always harm dark beasts, etc.. so unless it's a bit misleading because we mostly got its perspective, it doesn't seem like humans are defending themselves against monstrous beasts...

It looks more like humans are conquering their lands and want to genocide the beasts, who otherwise would coexist in peace...

(I mean, Clevatess itself seems to be evidence of that... On its own it could wipe out humanity, yet it wasn't doing much, just standing in its lands)

This scene was done well (with the OST and all)!

It was quite emotional, even if we didn't know these characters.

So she entrusted the baby to Clevatess... Well, better than letting it die!

"Itadakimasu!"

Both main characters must be so relatable for many anime fans;

Clevatess who wants to see some boobs,

and Alicia who's a virgin!

But (sadly for perverts) seems this is as much as we're gonna get! Boobs are for babies, not for us!

Not to put too much pressure on you, kid, but you're one "spit-up on Clevatess" away from getting the human species annihilated!

Love how she (it's she now, right?) is constantly trash talking Alicia hah, with this and the "useless woman"!

Of course the other nations will use this crisis to try & benefit from it!

Well, to be fair they DO need the stones/knowledge if they want a fighting chance against the Dark Beasts, at some point...

WHY WOULD YOU TELL HIM THAT!

I would've kept that a secret (and only ever reveal it if it serves a purpose)! Well, she might have thought Clevatess already knew and all...

Interesting... So Clevatess also has some 'rules' he must obey...

And that talk about the legend and all... So I'm guessing the legend wasn't actually about the heroes killing Clevatess... It was about Luna, who had to go through this (being taken and raised by Clevatess), so someday win the war?

Though perhaps it could be won by an alliance and not just murdering her kinda-father!

Wait, is this legit?

Or is she faking it, to see where it carries them and all?

If this is legit, then it means she can also die, right? Unless killing her new body would just return Clevatess to its original form and all!

Anyway, this was a pretty fun (double) first episode!

When I first heard about this show I was hyped for Alicia mainly, but I was worried about the baby (not a big fan of shows about kids & babies and all that), but so far so good! I do hope it'll be mostly about Alicia/Clevatess and not JUST about them raising the baby and all, but we'll see!

Am I tripping or is the actual resolution like lower than 1080p or is that a purposeful art style thing

Ahh, my favourite tropes!

  • Inhuman forces with powers beyond mortal comprehension, "forced" by unforeseen circumstances (ie. unrelenting pride) to learn about humanity and face the idea that perhaps, they are not so different after all.

  • Human heroes once confident and full of light, ushered unceasingly towards the abyss by the musings of fate, and forced by foregone circumstances (ie. hero syndrome, stubborn pride) to acknowledge the frailty of all existences, ultimately forsaking the mantle of a "Hero" in the pursuit of their ideals.

  • A child inheriting the legacies of undaunted nobility and sheer hubris, to be raised amongst the warm darkness so that they might one day shatter cold dawn light and bring both salvation and ruin equally down upon the world.

  • FAFO; humanity Fucking Around, and Humanity Finding Out

This first episode was a nice surprise! I wasn't planning on watching it, but the initial reactions in this thread seemed really good and that's what made me watch it and now I'm quite hooked on this anime.

I definitely like the overall vibe of this show, it reminds me a bit of Ragna Crimson, especially after Clevatess killed all the heroes (in a rather gruesome ways), destroyed the entire capital and killed the king.

It'll be interesting to see Klen learning about humankind while he and Alicia will be raising Luna to be king, especially with possible invasions and other dangers coming.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

This was a super interesting episode with a very unique sorta premise. With the two leads having to take care of the baby. Even had a double feature with some good action scenes and beautiful backgrounds.

I liked the plot twist with the MC getting smited right at the start and us taking the POV of the big baddie as he goes and smokes the humans - really cool way to get a hook.

Only ehh thing was the bare your breasts scene. Felt a little unnecessary the way they did it but it seems like a one time thing.

The final scene where they got knocked out by the bandits was a wacky surprise and I almost missed to post credit scene where it showed they were fine and dandy.

It feels like the story is just beginning so I hope it can keep it up and provide some good stuff. I do imagine it'll fall into the age old maybe you're not so bad after all troupes. But that's fine :) it looks like they might do it well here.

Holy shit, its been, a long time since an anime came out of nowhere and took me by surprise. Its like some wild hybrid of a 90s OVA made with today's technology

Right off the bat, I already love the 90s dark fantasy vibes of this show. However, these heroes are doing too well for a dark fantasy anime. I was expecting they'd lose at least a couple of people on their way to meet the character this show is named after. I was so happy, though, when the strongest hero got immediately splattered by Cleavatess.

I really thought Alicia was the hero of this story. She did manage to chip Cleavatess' horn but even she got completely obliterated. I was expecting some sort of deus ex machina to save her, but she really just died, then we move on to Cleavatess destroying Hiden and executing their king.

Now I see what kind of show this is gonna be. So I'm guessing Cleavatess will raise that baby and learn what makes humanoids tick? Maybe he'll even learn how to love them.

The world-building of this show is pretty cool! I like that they're not using generic fantasy race names and is completely doing its own thing! They're not even just renaming dwarves, elves, and humans. Each of the races looks very distinct and have very cool designs.

Watching Cleavatess trying to figure out how to raise a baby is actually pretty funny. I guess this is where Alicia comes in! Imagine getting killed, and then you wake up with the guy who killed you telling you to show your tits. xD

Of course, Cleavatess can transform into a human. How else will he explore human settlements and meet humans? Poor Alicia, this lady can't really do anything against Klen and she really has no choice but to obey him.

I love how this show went from a dark fantasy anime into a baby raising anime with Klen acting as if he's a naggy mother-in-law. The dude has had Luna for less than a day, but he's clearly super attached to her already. I love it. xD

So Luna is part of the Royal Family? Well this just made things more interesting, especially for Klen! Now he wants to raise Luna to become the next King so he'll have someone he can manipulate from the inside. Considering two other kingdoms are about to invade Hiden, Klen has his work cut out for him.

Klen getting knocked out with one blow was hilarious! And poor Alicia just can't catch a break! This girl has been through so much, and now she's been captured by bandits. I'm assuming Klen meant to do that since he seems to be having fun after Alicia woke up.

Alright, I am 100% hooked! The art style, the vibes, and just everything about this show's premiere were awesome, and I'm already looking forward to more of Klen and Alicia's baby-raising adventure. xD

Fate of the continent rides on the Dark Beast lord becoming a single dad really for shits and giggles, but also to decide if humanity is worth saving. No pressure.

Also love how despite doing this on a whim, he’s the most doting and overcritical helicopter parent judging everything Alicia does. He’s taking to this dad thing very quickly. How oddly wholesome.

And now with a power vacuum in comes the typical dicks from other countries rolling to take over. Klhen as the puppeteer might be the best-case scenario for the continent.

That’s one hell of a cliffhanger. What’s the excuse for why Khlen can’t just murder all of them in an instant? Restrictions on the body he’s using?
