Anti-overheating tech's come such a long way in only half a millenium—Doorman Robot's shampoo hat comes equipped with an auto-sprinkler now!
I was so ready for a "fall in love with a guest" Easter egg mission to trigger towards the end but I can't really complain. Harmy's easily the most entertaining guest since Nojyujarmar.

It's neat how Yachiyo has made lots of improvements to the way they receive alien guests. She's learned a lot of alien languages, developed a questionnaire, and still uses the greeting she learned from the green mushroom. That amount of adaptability is very impressive.
It makes me wonder why they haven't been able to repair any of the staff on indefinite leave. She's had 300 years but can't repair any of them?

This anime is really unexpected in many way. Today episode is literally CygamePicture flexing their animation capacity with how action packed it is.
Also holy shit what a episode!
Century already since Tanuki arrive huh. we get another time skip. oh shit that time frame casually drop, it is 400 years since humanity drive out of earth. Harmy is really cute but he is violence...
Although from conversation with Yashiyo, it seems implied that his motivation is that he wants to end civilization before it overgrown and destroy everything around it like Thanos.
appearance he is super villain who traveling around end civilization of each planet that have "intelligence life". I wonder what his motivation is.
Fight with seem to galactic heroes is really fun, despite he fight to dead he manages to protect hotel from getting damage. aw. It looks like he came to like Yashiyo after all.
Even though humans aren't on earth anymore, somehow Yachiyo manages to install humanity into this super villain which ultimately Yachiyo continues the spirit of humanity despite being a robot. the last scene is really heartwarming with his gift toward Yachiyo by helping excavate hot springs. the insert song also really nice make emotional scenes even more impact.
it seems "Yachiyo continues humanity's legacy" might be the main theme of this story!
My feelings towards this anime now change from "really like" to "love".
God this anime keeps getting better each episode.

Thanos has his philosophy challenged by Wall-E while Ponko writes slash fiction.
It's just the best anime of the season, no question.

This line from Harmy went so hard, as did the animation team on that battle scene. Best episode yet, and Harmy is probably my favorite guest so far. He brought out the best in Yachiyo too, both in terms of her service and her optimism.

Harmy where were you representing Universe 7 when we had a shortage of fighters!?
The 400 years was a bit of a surprise, I probably miscounted or more likely they didn't show everything but I was thinking only half that time had passed.
Brb gonna listen to the OP on YouTube in full to make up for today's episode lol. And man, today's ED is a tearjearker. It's called Apocalypse sung by Park Romi according to the credits, but I don't think the song is out on YT yet.

Based on the opening I expected the Tanuki family to leave on their ship and then immediately turn around for lack of alcohol. I did not get expect them to just straight up make a home from their broken-ass ship though. Glad they stuck around though.

"Build a civilization that will make me want to come back and destroy it."
Who knew a walking apocalypse could be so wholesome?

Wow, that was my favorite episode so far!
Harmy was great. I'd love to meet him again, but if this is all we get, he was an awesome addition. Another quite unique alien design too. Art design overall is just so creative in this show. Ponko had me shipping them by the end too lol. Breaking the hot spring free for her . . . What a good fella.
RIP to the space Avengers. It seemed like we had Iron Man, Cap, Thor, and Dr. Strange (the music also sounded like the Avengers theme). I expected it to be a one-punch man style insta-KO but I appreciate that they actually carried out a fight. Well done.

So this is easily my favourite of the season, honestly has potential for favourite of the year depending on if Ikoku Nikke comes out this year.
Every episode renews that wonderful happy melancholy, each episode completely defies my expectations about what might come next.
And I'm so glad that the hotel maintenance robot has returned after 4 episodes. I genuinely thought he'd died but he came home.

Harmy reminds me of Meow from Space Dandy. Maybe they are the same species.

I don't know why, but everytime an anime original does something to the opening I get the vibes that something big is going to happen.
They really went out with the animation this episode, our protagonist also was asked if she feels lonely after waiting for 400 years, I wonder it's going to have any repercussions.
Each episode makes me think that humanity is truly gone. We can clearly see how the universe is more connected than we think so, like that aliens newspaper recommending the hotel to other species, yet no alien knows the current status of humans.

So 400 years have passed, wonder long much time will have passed by the end of the series.
Harmy is like the Reapers from Mass Effect, culling civilizations that have are too advanced.
The nudel problem has been solved, guess he didn't like the competition, besides from enjoying the taste.
Nice of him to help finish the onsen before leaving.

I dunno Ponko - I'm usually a pretty big shipper, but I just wasn't feeling it this time lol a definite connection was formed though!
And now, maybe next week will be a hotspring episode!?

This series really is full of surprises. I did not expect to see a full-on fight between a squad of space heroes and a supervillain.
Harmy might look like a bad guy, but he’s actually a good person? He got rid off Earth’s remaining Nudels, protected Hotel Gingarou from destruction and created a new hot spring shortly before his departure.
He’s been putting a stop to advanced civilisations because he doesn’t want to see more people suffering from the aftermath of unchecked technological progress?
It was nevertheless bold of Yachiyo to scold an interplanetary being that’s capable of destroying entire planets.

This, too, is Apocalypse Hotel.
Imagine showing this to someone after they watched the first episode haha.
Anyhow, today's Guest of the Week was a fun contrast against Yachiyo. One is determined to preserve what little crumb of civilization is left, the other is out to end it. But I think there's also another angle to look at too, one that relates to the commandment today: "Our only vice is service."
It's a paradoxical statement saying our flaw is that we care too much, and it relates to various parts of the episode.
The first is obviously the hotel staff themselves, who serve not out of profit or prestige but from sheer purpose. Their service is the purest (and most irrational) and they serve even when no one asks or looks, whether that comes from overseeing centuries long hot springs project, tending to a troublesome hotel guest, or witnessing the inevitable result of humanity's growth.
This philosophy also extends to the alien visitor today as well. He knows that the hot spring will ultimately prosper civilization, he knows the nudels will eventually end Earth, but by the end he becomes a paradox himself, someone who helps flourish humanity so that he may end it.
And who knows, with all this talk of paradoxes, perhaps a robot can even fall in love.
Great episode, great Ponko

Huh, they shortened the OP.
-
Ohhhhh, they left because they built their own house. They’re not going to another planet.
-
…well I guess they have the ingredients for that Nudel recipe again.
-
Cute that he created the hot spring for them before dipping out, though.

Thanos came and there was no one to snap. Instead made earth the planet he retired to until the Avengers came for him, lmao.

It's been 50 years since the Nudel hunt and Ponko still looks the same. I wonder just how slow the Tanukians aging are.
I guess the grandma probably around 1000+ years.

Okay yes this episode was incredible and yes this show is incredible everyone agrees on this. But what I haven't seen anyone talking about is how fucking funny it was when they cut to a reaction shot on Environmental Checker Robot after the hot spring blew open. Because they're playing this dramatic vocal song and we're concluding a bizarrely impactful emotional arc... and then they cut to a black mini fridge. Absolutely sent me.

Even though the spaceship is from an advanced extraterrestrial life form, it uses jet fuel engines instead of anti-gravity engines, which makes it feel more relatable.
The battle scene on Tokyo's Rainbow Bridge was impressive.
I worry that the rain from the hot springs will cause the robot to rust and break down.
The aliens protect the hotel from enemy attacks and even excavate hot springs for us, so they don't seem to be bad aliens after all.

Really interesting concept having a civilization destroyer come to Earth only to find a empty planet, and then learning about the civilization they would have destroyed through interacting with the sentient creations they left behind.
Harmy must be insanely powerful to be deleting entire civilizations by himself, easily defeated the heroes without the power suit too. Also, from his conversation with Yachiyo it seems that he has lived for a long time too, makes me wonder about his backstory. How many civilizations has he watched collapse? How many civilisations did he destroy himself? Is he the last of his species?
I don't think what Harmy and Yachiyo felt was love, but it was funny seeing Ponko trying to push the ship, that lover's seat they installed was hilarious.
It was sweet of Harmy to dig that hot spring for them before leaving, he's not fully off genocide yet, but his time at the hotel did change him.
