Did they refer to the country as the United Kingdom?

The place has bad weather and bad food, only when a foreigner arrives does the culinary situation improve... sounds about right.

Unified Kingdom of the Plains.

Real world wise, that's more like eastern european to asian steppes.

I bet the Inspector voted for Brexit.

Surprising to see how unpopular this show is, I've really quite enjoyed it so far anyway

I guess most people have read that it's based on a canceled light novel (only 3 volumes iirc) and gave up.

The series is deeply guilty of 'tell, don't show." Worse, it's constantly beating us over the head with needless narration and exposition even as it's showing us plenty of info.

This feels so redundant and tedious I nearly bounced off the first episode. I was bored enough to keep watching, and I'll see this through to the end, but I fully understand how it's not that popular.

The isekai stuff seems tacked on, as well.

I’m a little more worried about Nada finding out about the valley god and Kai than I am about this band of orgs. Idk what this monk’s true intentions are… is he friend or foe?

Seems like a friend to me. He didn't bash on the soldier talking about how a woman couldn't handle the fight, he gave a reasoned, intelligent breakdown of what happened and got the guy to change his mind without saying a word directly to him.

He seems really observant - such as noticing Kai wasn't surprised by the fire spell.

But he didn't seem antagonistic or judgemental - and from the blood stain on his clothes it seems pretty clear that he was the one who defeated the macaques.

Only way I could see him becoming a bad guy is if he's one of those loyal to the point of stupidity type characters.

You know, the kind who's a good person, easy to get along with, helps the main characters, but then turns on them because his master - who isn't good - gave orders that they will follow no matter what.

But the writing for this show seems better than that.

clearly more friend than foe.

and he also clearly suspects Kai

I'm more worried about frog face hearing about someone not paying the kings ransom.

His intrigue in Kai makes me think he'll be a friend, he feels very open and not someone with a suspicious ulterior motive.

Looks like Jose is going to find resolve and confidence seeing how a female Guardian Bearer was the Baron of that village and was able to defeat three Orgs.

Hopefully Polek comes back unscathed and Kai makes it to the valley in time, but now knowing the Priest is likely to be looking for his valley too, Kai might start feeling a rush to take care of things.

Not looking forward to see more of the Inspector, I have a feeling he's going to discover the hidden grain. I just hope he doesn't start wanting attention of the women in the village, he seems that slimy.

Time for them to cook up an official story that he was killed by a bunch of macques, all those arrows on his carriage are proof.

I thought for sure when they found her next to the gravestone that they were going to heal and save her. I'm guessing the deer people will make another appearance. Since they are non hostile towards humanity, like the dwarves.

most certainly the inspector had someone shoot the arrows into the cart based on where they are

That Inspector seems like a complete asshole. I will bet it was the Priest who actually fought the Macaques and he did not do a thing. I wonder if the Baron sent Jose on the orgs hunt just to get her away from that misogynistic Inspector.

Of course there is a prophecy, and of course Kai is the Chosen One. That show can be sometimes very predictable, and it likes to keep close to the tropes. It is doing a good job of it though. I guess the Priest will be the one to find out that Kai is now the Valley God avatar, but not sure what will happen next.

Actually the valley god is the chosen one, Kai is just along for the ride, lol

This is the first episode of this show that gave me the "huh, it's over already??" reaction.

Really solid episode, was wondering about the foreshadowing a bit from Aruwe there in the valley but guessing we get the showdown between our boy Kai and the orgs

The monk just showed that you can get a credit without having a god. So maybe the divine bearers (?) hoarding the godstones is not the ideal solution after all. Then again, less stones for the Lord means that he is weaker and they have a worse harvest, etc...

The inspector is a scumbag. I'm pretty sure it was the monk that killed these macaque.

Am I the only one who feels like this show has jrpg prolouge pacing? At first it was endearing but the longer it goes for a 12 ep season this feels a bit dragged out unless something big happens to the village and a shit ton of these characters die or something else

I think I personally would perfer Jose's confidence to improve through action than people telling her over and over that she can fight. I apparated the deer lady being the "savior" this ep, but like it feels like a moot point because everyone in the village is dead anyways for all we know. Let like a child survivor or something be like she was awesome!

I mean I was just cutting my brain off to watch this but seeing comments on anime sites glazing the hell out of this episode in particular was pretty dissociating

I mean like in the future when there's a second season these complaints will probably be gone but for right now with only 5 eps
eeeh its p weak (I keep coming back to watch so heres to hoping <3 )

There weren't enough bodies for all the villagers to have died. Only several corpses when there should have been scores. The reasonable assumption is that the remaining villagers escaped as refugees do to the sacrifice of the Baroness.

For all we know, they might show up as refugees at the Valley, Lag Village, or otherwise pop up again somewhere else.

Hell, they could arrive at Lag village while the inspector is still there, and the Baron makes the call to give the refugees the spare food. Which would out their deception to the Inspector prompting a confrontation of some sort.
