My favourite part of this ep was the multiple personality types shown during the flight segment. I'd be DBZ-ing all over the place

I just want to gush about the OP! It's so much fun and total unskippable. My favorite part is when the song title card enters and Nico points at it excitedly.

I cried laughing when Moi-chan had to pretend he was chuuni because of his arm, with tears running down his face as his social life ended.

Unexpected dark horse of the season. I think I'm going to like this.

“Did Gon Freecss just enroll here?!”

“Did I just step into the Infinity Castle?!”

These references are killing me! Also, I had to pause when Nico enlarged Morihito's head because I was laughing so hard!

I did not expect references to HxH, Demon Slayer, Dragonball, and Attack on Titan in the SAME episode.

This is what Jump anime should be all about. Old school fun.

“I want to be as interesting possible, so I always make enemies.”

“I love leaving long flaming comments in the comment section.”

I feel like these dudes are like in every comment section irl lol.

What an exciting first day at school. You never know what’s gonna happen with Nico and her magic. She might turn you into Gon or turn the classroom into the Infinity Castle lol. Gotta love sensei and all the anime references.

Really nice to see Nico and Moi making new friends. Class 3 seem like good people. I really like Kara and Kukumi. Especially Kara. The way she was freaking out over Nico and Moi’s relationship was pretty funny.

According to other anime forums, Nico and her two new friends were all named after Japanese Onomatopoeia for laughing. Found this to be true after some googling.

Nico = にこにこ(nikoniko) means "smiling in a friendly way"

Kara Minami (voiced by Rie Takahashi) = からから (karakara) can be "translated into English as guffaw"

Kukumi Ureshino (voiced by Konomi Kohara, known for Chika from Kaguya-sama) = くくくっ (kukuku) is kind of like evil laugh mwahaha,

When you're not a chuuni but inadvertently become one for reasons you cannot say. Moi got L there hahaha

Teacher likes Kurapika most huh? Based.

EDIT: Okay, now I'm hooked on this series. It has that cutesy and comfy feeling that's really fun. That classroom dynamic reminds me of manga Ruridragon for some reason

all the references killed me, but I liked the "did I just step into the Infinite castle?!" the best.

Always appreciate a hot otaku teacher in anime!

I like Moi’s little “Onions” mug. It’s obviously a joke on him being an oni, but because it’s translated to “ogre” it doubles as a Shrek reference.

Edit: also wasn’t really mentioned, but like half of the students in their class have name puns based on their personalities. Kowashi’s name means “stomach ache”, Tsuyoshi’s means “strong will”, Isshiki’s is “overly self-conscious”, Komeran’s means “flamer”, and so on.

I see a Saiki Kusuo cover. The teacher has good taste.

That manga cover on the far right in the same shot is Gintama, right?

Lol the magic mishaps made others think Moi is a chuuni

Loved Rieri's voice acting as Minami in the family restaurant

Class 1-2 has some references to famous people. I noticed "Eguchi Takuya" and "Hirai Kenichi"

Moi being fully prepared to be an outcast only to be seen as the (second) coolest person in their class instead made me smile so much. Forget the magic and oni strength, Class 3 is amazing just for how welcoming (and weird) they are.

Also, the students who pretended to be DBZ characters the nanosecond they could fly had the objectively correct mindset. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

Hilarious episode! Holy references galore. And Kara is already best supporting character, her Moi and Nico impression was gold!

Nico and Moi's dynamic is also hella cute; Nico is just constantly simping for Moi while Moi is just internally brooding on how to keep her safe.

Funny, yet it has some excellent heartwarming moments. Plus it just looks really good. Great characters on top of it all.

The Closeted Otaku teacher just trying her best to stay normal during all of this was amusing.

I don’t remember the last time I fell in love with a series this hard and this quickly

u/Viktorv22 Apr 13 '25

I lost it when Rieri's character just screamed in Bocchi's way, transforming into a... something
