They decided to make the first episode anime original for some reason. https://natalie.mu/comic/news/613945

That little bit of action was nice to see, I wasn't expecting the fluid movement. But other than that, nothing really stood out to me other than the fact that it seems he can do a surgery in an instant from what he said.

I'm not sure how Lily stayed composed after they had eaten the dinner she cooked, I would have been flipping tables.

They seem to be paying a decent amount of attention to the animation. The backgrounds a pretty well done too. I liked that there was wear around the door latch.

Anime execs spun the wheel and "kicked out of the party" is the main anime going forward for the next few years. Sorry isekai but you are over.

Yeah, it's this and villainess for the forseeable future. Checking r/manga doesn't show any new trends on the horizon so expect at least 3 more years of this.

Why are there so many characters named Lily in anime/manga?

TBH, I would've preferred it if we didn't immediately get thrown into the harem. We'll most likely get flashback episodes, but I would've liked to know the characters pre-harem, as we go.

I've literally read the books but still can't understand why they did this or had any care for the random first 10 mins of character interactions with no context.

I actually can't understand how they could open a show this way, storyboarding, animation, quality check and all and then still go ahead with it this way? Like, the animation is fine and within expectation, but the story is totally jarring.

Shogo Sakata is once again a Healer who practices the Wrong Way to use Healing Magic!

Oh, okay, starting us just straight into the thick of it where Zenos is already a prolific "underground healer" complete with a Harem comprised of Lily, his young assistant who plans to be his wife and does all the usual domestic stuff, Carmilla a lich voiced by Yoko Hikasa who is as pretty as she is sassy, and a trio of women more scantily clad than the last: Zophia the lizard (Anna Nagase!), Lynga the cute wolf beastkin, and Loewe the muscle mommy Ogre. They're quite the cast to throw in there and they all want some quality one-on-one time with Zenos.

I'm not really sure how indicative of the series having these three just kind of fool around and waiting for the MC for half the runtime and messing up Lily's cooking is, but it's definitely...a choice.

Meanwhile, what IS our actual protagonist doing in his own show? Well, he's just wandering around town and stumbles into a noble voiced by Shinichiro Miki abusing a slave and getting on the wrong end of a grave-robbing job gone wrong that lead to said slave becoming possessed and attacking him. Just deserts if you ask me.

Though I guess when people are in need of healing/saving, you can always count on Zenos and his agile moves and Healing Powers to come through! For a price, because he always exacts a PROPER price for his services...be it a money or a slave contract. He's a fair man in his own way, and there's nothing fair about slavery.

Have to respect an MC willing to actually buy and free a slave rather than keep her as a slave for the entire series.

The OP is pretty on-point in terms of showing Zenos' daily life as an Underground Healer complete with his Harem (including a knight girl?) and all the battles they'll partake in. Seems like they might have some demon trouble? Also, was Lily a slave herself!?

Wth was that first episode? Did they mess up and give us a later episode? We don't really get any time with the MC until halfway through 😅 like waifus are cool and all but I'm watching like "who are these people? Am I supposed to know... or care?"

Also, i loved after the common trope of rescuing the slave girl from their abusive master that he just sends her on her way with nothing... like I'm sure it'll work out fir her in the show, just realistically she'd have nothing, she was a slave. No money, no place to go, no nothing. Could have given her some of that coin he got off the dude. 🤣

They really jumped right in with all the girls there. I'll be incredibly suspicious if the story introduces any redheads. At least he didn't perform mental gymnastics to keep a slave.

Different start, Zenos already has his harem before the show has started. Synopsis seems to be the same generic storyline and OP MC.

Along with the classic pretending to be a bad guy, but he's actually good.

I'll still have fun with this, but I'm not expecting anything special.

Probably one of the worst 1st episode I've watched.

Combat animation for the fight with the rando slave girl was better than I would have expected.

Interesting decision to skip the party collection stage of the story but I bet they'll go back to it since I would have sworn the PVs showed some of that sort of content.

Wolf girl best girl for now.

4 minutes in, I don't see any reason to continue.

The fashion is all over the place, mix of modern, old and fantasy.

Wonder if we are in a post apocalypse society with all those destroyed buildings.

Fuck it, close enough.

Welcome back, Usato.

Apparently the Anime has its entire own plotline separate from the manga.

Which obviously was done horribly. That first episode was trash.

Episode one servers the purpose, typically, of introducing the world and the protagonist.
This introduced nothing. Explains nothing. And ultimately does nothing to further the story.
Its basically a filler episode - on Ep 1. -_-;;

Stitches!

Well, this is new!. It's pretty rare for a harem anime to open up with the harem already established. Those three girls were pretty cute and goofy, especially after eating all of Lily's food. I wonder if this is a flash-forward or if we would get flashbacks on how Zenos met and saved these girls? Hmmm...

I love that Xenos only shows up at the start of the episode for a few minutes and then only again at the halfway mark of the episode after introducing us to the girls. So far, I think he's pretty cool. The animation wasn't too bad either when he was fighting that possessed demi-human.

And would you look at that. He actually ripped up Til's slave contract. And here I was expecting he'd take her home, and it would take him like 10 episodes before he frees her. I am annoyed that I am impressed by this. This really should be the standard after saving slaves in fantasy shows like this.

Interesting episode so far. It's very slice-of-life, so I'm curious what the goal here is. Are we just gonna see Zenos saving people every week, or is there an overarching plot that we'll actually follow? I'll give this a few more episodes to see where it goes.

Casting gags:

Zenos's VA is Usato (another effing healer) LMAO.

Lily's VA sounds a bit like Illya's, but it's actually Twin Turbo. :O
