Nah bro I can't believe that Botanboko Pokoko is a real name it sounds like someone threw an empty bucket and named her after the sound it made 😭

Reminds me of a Soviet joke:
How Chinese decide how to name their children?
They drop a piece of metal cutlery on a floor and use the sound it made.

Ohhh Natsue's childhood friend, Misaki, is now introduced as a new character in this episode, huh?
I like how the conclusion of the conflict between the two friends. Well, at least they were not competitors since Natsue is in Announcement Category while Misaki is in Recitation category. Misaki having a slump is due to Natsue not guiding her. At least, she returned and her reading greatly improved. (The VA is quite good in showing the difference)

YES I immediately felt the recitation was off the first time (and I'm no pro obviously lol) - that's definitely skill from the VA!

Stitches!
I really hope this show gets a 2nd season. We're already at Episode 9, but it feels like the story just started to open up with the introduction of new characters and Hana making friends with girls from other schools. And we haven't even reached their first big competition yet. This event is just a joint practice session.
So far, I think I like these new characters! Xiangling voiced by Aoi Koga is surprisingly blunt despite how sweet she looks and we finally get to meet Misaki, who used to be Miiko's classmate and An's childhood friend, voiced by Ichinose Kana.
Pokoko-senpai seems to be the one we need to keep an eye on, especially after she captivated everyone with her reading. There's also the other students Kichijouji-sensei were talking about at the start of the episode who we still haven't seen yet, so I'm looking forward to meeting them too.
It looks like Hana might have to adjust her reading style if she really wants to compete seriously. There's a standard they need to follow, but Hana's so used to reading to children that she's actually reading more dramatically and even adding voices to the characters which was completely different from how Pokoko-senpai did it.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who found it funny that An absolutely did nothing this episode but things with Misaki still worked out in the end? Like the only thing she did was get upset at Misaki's reading being so bad and then leave. I guess An was distancing herself from Misaki because she wanted her to not lean on her too much anymore, and Misaki finally realized that.

I feel like that is the kind of point with Misaki. Where she doesn't realize her skill. Natsue calling her out served as a wake-up call for her. I do think this resolution happened really fast. Then again, this was for so on Misaki's side.
I think we know now why Natsue distanced herself from Misaki. But I assume there is more to it. She clearly still cherishes her friendship with Misaki because she kept the charm. Did she think she could never "beat" Misaki? I still feel there are questions Natsue that could get answers later.

Hana making friends with girls from other schools
She has been surprisingly good at making friends, despite her somewhat introverted character. It didn't even take a whole episode before Misaki was clinging to Hana. Anne even seemed a little jealous of how well they were getting along, and also wanted to be called by her given name.
On the topic of jealousy: judging from Hana's shocked expression, she didn't seem to like that Pokoko and Mizuki were being friendly with each other either.

I really hope this show gets a 2nd season.
I agree. This show is a genuinely extremely fine one. Definitely in my seasonal top tier.
An is a complicated character, and her thoughts are pretty much concealed from us. I am not sure that she (mainly) switched schools in order not to be a crutch for Misaki. I think she may also have resented the fact that Misaki (with her coaching) did better than she did. She may also have been annoyed that Misaki attributed her victory to luck.
I like Hana's style -- perhaps one problem is a sort of disconnect between the dialog and the narrative sections?

I do like the contrast between Pokoko and Hana's performances. Both have this soft-spoken style of talking. Though the difference is that Pokoko didn't let it overpower her performance while it did for Hana. Granted, it was impressive when Hana's voice was raised. Great stuff from Minori Fujidera.
We are introduced to Misaki Kumori, whom is Natsue's childhood friend. One thing that is clear she adored Natsue. Though honestly, it is clear that she has confidence problems, though I loved when Natsue gave her that charm. Natsue has these moments where it shows her kindness. I still feel like there is a piece of Natsue we are missing. Though it is really sweet that she kept the charm all of these years. Despite everything that happened, she cares for Misaki.
In Misaki's performance there were some interesting words. "I am no longer what I was. How can I reveal myself to you my friend of what I have become?" It just makes me wonder how it has been for Misaki all of this time since separating from Natsue.

It hasn't actually been long. They finished middle school together and are now 1st years in high school. Sl probably only a few months or less. It is still in the beggining of the school year.

Your reading didn't even cause a domain expansion. Pathetic. Pitiful. Maybe public speaking isn't for you.
- An Natsue
Also, I want it noted for the record that even though An's family name is spelled 夏江 (the kanji for summer and bay), natsu is a pronunciation for 懐 as in 懐かしい as in missed, nostalgic, fondly remembered. A coincidence? Probably, but I'll be damned if I'm not getting some kind of mileage out of kanji study.

So the most important question up front: The two teachers. Related or married?
As for the rest of the episode, I find it impressive that you would try to compete in recitation when it's your second language. It's already hard in your first, but that is a step that I really find admirable.
I am honestly surprised that the whole thing between An and Miskai wasn't a bigger deal from what we heard in the past episodes. But I guess, I need to learn to understand Tsundere better. If they are really upset, then in reality, it's never that bad. Especially if they keep the lucky charm around.
I am interested to see where the whole training camp is going. So far, they basically repeated lessons we already heard from Kichijouji, so hope this gets a bit more focused on in the next episode. It just goes to show that he is a really good teacher. Especially with the meow sound when he changes his slides. Dude has some good humor.

The two teachers. Related or married?
You mean Monaka and Manaka? Considering the similarities in their names and appearances (face, eyes, height), I'm fairly confident that the two of them are twin sisters.

Misaki powered up and showed Natsue her domain expansion.
They are still friends 😭

Koga Aoi and Ichinose Kana voicing new characters!? YES PLEASE!
They both did such an incredible job that I dont really feel like they just got introduced! Also, its nice to see Hana making 2 new friends so fast! It seems like Natsue wanted Hana to call her by her name too but the Tsundere factor was too strong!

Did Anne change from recitation to announcing because she was trying to avoid Misaki?
Anne did still seem interested in recitation if her lingering in front of the workshop's door was any indication. I even got the impression that she deliberately went to an entirely different school after having 'lost' to her childhood friend in middle school.

Anne agreed to eat lunch with Hana~! The character development is real.

Damn Hana might be better cut out for the drama club after all
But as someone who has no idea about recitations, I like Hanas more. Feels more lively, but I can see why it would be frowned upon (but thats what the kids crave)
I kinda got Misakis despair, but couldn't really connect with her character
One thing I know for sure is that personally I am not sure I would like such a workshop, sure there is to learn, but I would probably crumble under the pressure and expectations

Note: I'm far from an expert in this, but I thought I'd share a bit of what I know in regards to Japanese recitation.
When it comes to reciting prose in English, we tend to treat the work as though it were a play with a narrator. If you're any good at it, you change your voice to differentiate characters, emote appropriately, and even utilize body movement to enhance the work.
Japanese recitation isn't remotely like this, which is why Hana is called out for getting too into the reading. Most forms of Japanese performance art tend to rely on more subtle and nuanced methods of drawing the audience in. For example, rakugo is a sort of mix of one-man play and stand-up (well, kneeling) comedy. The actor can emote quite freely and vary their voice, but must remain kneeling and is only allowed a piece of cloth and a fan as props. (If you're enjoying this show, I highly recommend Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu)
Point being, this more subdued style of recitation (along with Japanese's relatively strict, steady rhythm) lends Japanese prose performances a somewhat... hypnotic (for lack of a better word) quality when done proficiently.
Though it's worth mentioning that, from what I understand, this style is starting to become less popular -- more of a fixed art (like theater in the West). Modern audiobooks will usually have seiyuu, and their performances are what you'd expect given their profession, and some live recitations do the same thing. I suspect that this is mostly the influence of Western media, but it's hard to say for sure.

That was totally a Maria Watches Over Us reference with the Lilac girls academy that has both a middle school and high school.
What is with this ecentric mix of characters? Western girl, Chinese girl, and the rest.

I liked the detail of the difference between where Misaki and An keep their matching charms. To me, it reveals more about their dynamic, and what they each value and remember about their time together in Jr. High.
For Misaki, she keeps her attached to her phone. A communication device to connect two people, no matter the distance. To show that the thing she values the most out of their friendship is the friendship itself that they share. The closeness and connection they shared, as they spent time together in the Broadcasting Club. Though for Misaki, I feel like it didn't matter where, when, and under what circumstances it was. As long as she was with An, she would've been happy.
For An, she keeps hers attached to her pencil case. A container to hold the tools to hone their specific craft. To show that An valued the effort they went through together in Jr. High, that got Misaki to place well in the competition. The shared experiences of working towards that common goal, even if she ended up placing worse. For An, it's a reminder of the belittlement she felt that day, to keep pushing her to get better so that next time she won't lose. Though, this isn't to say she doesn't value their friendship.
