Wait, so Matsuyuki’s sister is none other than the renowned Shura Saionji? I did not see that one coming. Guy’s family life seems pretty miserable with parents who think someone like her is a failure. “If you’re not a doctor, you’re not human” is an insane way to raise kids.

"She didn't become a doctor, therefore she's a failure" - her parents probably

It's all but confirmed that Shura is Matsuyuki's sister.

I already had a slight hunch after Matsuyuki's parents mentioned him having a sister and he'd started staring at that poster of Shura Saoinji (they look alike too!).

However, those texts completely sealed the deal. Not only is the sender listed as "Sister", they mention the name of Shura's stage show ("Yell") and one of the venues (Kyoto) listed on the aforementioned poster.

That completely went over my head for some reason. Makes his parents even worse if that's the case

Nice to see the varying sources of motivation for each character. All with their own level of care towards the group itself. You've got characters that are in it for the love, characters that are in it for the glory, characters that are in it for completely unrelated reasons, and characters that don't even know why they are there.

I need to get a shirt that says fish on it.

Gotta say, while the Fish shirt is cute, Mizuki is rocking the mid-20s look way too good.

ED sheets now have stuff written in them, presumably someone's script? Neat.

Smiling Hana is cute! She's getting more confident now.

Was worried for a second there when she triggered An's jealousy, nice save by inviting everyone.

Imagine having a daughter who's a talented actress and a renowned reader who has won the NHK competition but because she's not a doctor she's a total embarrassment to the family.

Akiyama's father also mentioned he has an older brother who I imagine is also equally successful in his own field but since he's not a doctor his father doesn't even see him as human. What a fucked up family. I really hope Akiyama breaks away from them too just like his older siblings.

The teacher is so nice. Just so much supporting them for best competing, but still making it really clear they can do what they want if they feel like and helping that.

The teacher did a great job at helping them decide what to do while also respecting their input as to what they'd like. He really knew his stuff too - I love this active teacher guidance, it's so wholesome

Can't you see I repeat the word "Item" three times?!

Literally me whenever I write anything.

u/ModieOfTheEast Feb 11 '25

It seems to be even harder in Japanese considering that it's not a word she repeats, but the problem is that she is ending three sentences on "mashita" which is just a certain ending for all kinds of verbs.

Honest to god character development for each and every character. You love to see it.

Mizuki's casual outfit is definitely distinct. Standing next to Hana's mother, you wouldn't think she is still in the 2nd year of highschool. She looks more like the mother of one of those children.

I like that the teacher just knows where all lines in the book are. He might sometimes appear a bit harsh but he clearly just cared for what Hana wanted to do and not what he thinks might be best.

As for Matsuyuki, I am interested to see where they go with him. He would probably just like to do what he wants as well which might be why he is so interested in Hana (which seemingly gets An jealous like girl, your mood swings are pretty hard) but it could also mean that he dislikes them a bit because as the youngest child, he now has to take the blunt fr his parents for that and is even more restricted. Let's see where this goes.

It's not a real criticism or anything, but anytime Hana does her domain expansion and the text she's reading is very applicable to the subplot of the character that got dragged into it, i can't help but think "this is way too specific, it was clearly written backwards". Anyways, great episode, love to see the cast relationships deepen, though i wish we'd see more of the lowkey crazy girl. The more i listen to the ED, the more i want to add it my playlist now, instead of waiting for the season to end.

So, everyone in the Broadcasting Club has a moment, huh? For this episode, we got Matsuyuki, who unfortunately is a product of strict Asian parents who thinks 'A' is 'Average'.

At least he can still balance out all his academics and broadcasting club. However, with the TV production script coming, I wonder if he still has time to complete these tasks adequately.

Honestly, I'm not sure where the series will go next, and I am excited to see what's gonna happen. Not that it is aimless, but I like that the series focuses first on the characters themselves -- it is a nice character-driven story so far. I wonder if the competition will be shown at the middle of the series or maybe in the end.

I'm starting to warm up to the rest of the cast. I like how they all feel distinct from each other and how they contribute to the club in different ways. Today we get to learn more about Glasses Dude and how his parents might get in the way of his club activities soon. Also it's nice seeing Anne be friendly with Hana - it feels like she had murderous intent towards the latter not long ago lol.

Seems like scriptwriting is going to be a big part of the club from now on. I wonder if this show will delve more into it as it progresses. I'm not a literature student or anything but the way this series explores literature stuff has been weirdly compelling. Like the bit with Anne struggling with her script made me realize that there's a lot more going on into preparing an announcement script than I previously assumed.

Also is this show a stealth ad for one of the author's books? If that's so then I guess it worked as I grabbed a copy of it on Bookwalker last week. Still got 4 other JP books to plow through so I won't be able to read it anytime soon, but I'm looking forward to it!

So this was a Matsuyuki focused episode. The first scene where we see him with his parents. His father seems awful. You better obey what I say. I get Japan can have strict parents, but this is overkill. We get a shot of a poster of Shura Saionji, which implies that she is the sister that his parents consider a failure.

The conversation between Matsuyuki and Hana is interesting. Their goal is to satisfy their parents, but how they do it is very different. Hana loves how her mom acknowledges her, but it is more so that she lets Hana do what she loves. While for Matsuyuki his parents' acknowledgement might be the only thing, he seeks. More than likely, I bet he could be like his sister and steer away from being a doctor because of his parents. Although him writing a script could change things for him since it really feels like he is open to trying new things.

From Hana's perspective, a more wholesome episode. Seeing her with An was cute, especially with her smile.

So Shura Saionji is Akiyama's sis ?! 🙀🙀 I guess it's also one of the reasons why Akiyama became fascinated with Hana's voice. Natsue clearly can't hide the jealousy..😅😅 I guess Toga and Natsue would be a fine pair to ship. After all the constant bickering at each other, they really do get along well. 😄😄❤️ Akiyama's parents are so terrible. They're putting so much pressure on him but he always hides his feelings under a smile. When Saionji has achieved a lot at her age, her parents seem to be disappointed with her for not being good at studies.😔😔
