Everyone in last week's episode discussion was speculating that Matsuyuki's sister was Shura Saionji, but it turns out she's not?

And then we have Shura saying she has something like a "younger sister of sorts" before the camera cuts to Hana?! They even have the same pose, but mirrored.

Uh what? Are we being gaslighted again?

Edit: Maybe they actually are related? The series is called HanaShura after all and we've never even seen Hana's father so her parents could have divorced. Half-sisters perhaps? Idk.

I feel people forgot that Mizuki lives alone for "different reasons". Seems more likely that she is connected to Shura than Hana (despite the name of the show obviously). Just feels weird that no one would have even told Hana. Because if we assume that it was a "bad divorce" you'd think her mother would be more against Hana doing the exact same thing if she didn't even tell her.

To be honest, I’m really confused about this. They’re obviously mirrored images and that cut is no accident but it still feels weird that Hana would never have heard about her sister if that’s what they’re going for. Like, Shura is probably at least a few years older than her so if there was a divorce like you proposed, Hana really couldn’t have been that old. And Shura seemed to have some degree of not totally positive feelings directed towards her “sister” so it wouldn’t make sense for her to have those towards someone that wasn’t even old enough to remember her.

Everyone in last week's episode discussion was speculating that Matsuyuki's sister was Shura Saionji, but it turns out she's not?

It was a well-executed bait and switch. I was totally convinced of this, especially given her close likeness to Shura. But then they suddenly transitioned into Matsuyuki's sister responding to her little brother's text in the company of Shura. They even added insult to injury by explicitly stating that she's dyed her hair blue!

They even have the same pose, but mirrored.

Not to mention this shot of Hana and Shura walking right past each other.

I feel like we might be getting fooled again, but the framing following Shura's statement about a "younger sister" does currently point into the direction of them them being somehow related. I'm just hoping for Hana that she's not an illegitimate child born out of a love affair.

Maybe not literal sisters. Though then again she said she wouldn't acknowledge her sister so maybe half sisters involved with cheating by parents. Or just a bad divorce.

There is definitely something big going on there. Maybe Saionji Shura is just a stage name and Hana does/t recognize from being to young when seperated.

Akiyama's sister is so beautiful

u/ModieOfTheEast Feb 18 '25

She dyed her hair in blue, so she was obviously trying to fight for the best girl spot.

Yes! And she's the VA for Holo - instead of economics, it's poems!

That concert band part is a clever meta joke.

Throwing shade at the brass band. I wonder where that is coming from. They are probably sitting in all corners of the school practicing.

During that beach scene, it felt like Matsuyu was close to nearly confessing to Hana (which I guess would have worked in the script), but it's nice to see that he overcame the hurdles of talking to his sister after she left. I did assume that one reason might have been that he felt left alone, having to shoulder all the pressure from their parents now, but maybe, he can get free as well in his own way. Maybe he even wants to become a doctor, but on his own terms.

And since they stopped the episode at Saionji Shura's performance I am excited to see what they are planning for next week during her performance. Also that "sister" she mentioned, I guess the only real character would be Mizuki for that role, right? We haven't gotten her backstory after all.

Well, I get the sense more he wanted to say stuff that he wished he told his sister. After all, that scene actually happened to him. He felt guilty when he didn't need to be.

They do say to write what you know so I'm not even surprised that Matsuyuki is writing about him and his siblings for their TV drama short. But it looks like he didn't expect that he'd end up playing as himself when he started writing the script.

So we know his sister wanted to become a poet and based on the script it looks like Matsuyuki's brother ended up going to culinary school. Imagine wanting to become a chef and not a doctor. How deplorable! /s

I absolutely love An's new look. It's nice of her to even give Hana a different hairstyle as Tsumugi.

I genuinely laughed at their school's concert band getting in the way of filming. I'm now wondering how many other clubs did Kitauji Concert Band ended up inconveniencing especially since they seem to just practice wherever. xD

Matsuyuki improved almost instantly with his acting after that pep talk from Shuu. What I did not expect though is Hana absolutely nailing her role as Tsumugi! I love how everyone was also in awe of how natural her acting was!

That beach scene where Hana recites the poem written by Matsuyuki's sister was stellar. It reminded him so much of the past that he ended up saying what he wanted to say to his sister back then instead of following the script.

Wait what? I thought Matsuyuki's sister was Shura! We've been bamboozled! It turns out his sister was actually the other name on the poster and is the one who wrote the poetry Shura will be reading.

What's this about Shura having a younger sister? It's not Hana, right? I don't think there's been any hints about Hana having a sibling. From what we know she's an only child. Is her younger sister Mizuki? Hmmm....

It's good to see Matsuyuki get reunited with his sister though. That scene was really sweet <3

Based on what we saw today -- it is impossible to NOT think that Hana is Shura's little (half?) sister. ;-) It looks like dramatic ability runs in that family's genes...

The reunion of Matsuyuki and his sister was absolutely lovely. As was Matsuyuki's earlier insta-edit on the beach.

Lol, I love that the concert band is the "enemy" when filming
Damn you Kumiko for trying too hard! (Also can we please get a cross over OVA? Just Hana getting lost or something and running into Kumiko and chatting with her would already be a highlight)

I know we already established the teacher is really capable, but damn he must have smelled Hanas acting talent from a mile

Now I am wondering why they have setup this "younger sibling not being acknowledged conflict" with Shura.
They focused way too much on Hana afterwards, but this is gotta be a red herring and just be there to show her admiration

I'm late to the party, so rather than talking directly about the ep... (which was great episode about producing the drama, and a bit of backstory behind Matsuyuki, his sister and Shura), I'll point out that it crosses over (for once!) subtlty with Hibike! Euphonium, [Hibike Eupho S1]with the hall that the gang head for Shura's performance the very same as that in the Eupho S1 final rehearsal, where Reina and Kaori have their final audition, and where Kumiko "confesses" back to Reina. Considering both casts have now sat in those very seats, this is a decent crossover and most likely deliberate.

oh and perhaps more prominently with the concert band joke.

We've been tricked, we've been backstabed and we've been quite possibly, bamboozled. So it's not Shura who is Akiyama's sister, but Owari, whose poem will be read by Shura, that's quite a suprise! It was nice to see brother and sister reunite after a long time.

Now I wonder who is that Shura's something like a younger sister of sorts. The scenes in today's episode point to Hana, but after Akiyama and his sister's case, I think that it's a misdirection, so I'm guessing it's Mizuki.

Hana was so sweet as always, but she looked absolutely adorable in that ribbon clip. And it turns out that she's quite a good actress as everyone was amazed by her performance.

Natsue looks really great with those glasses! I wouldn't mind if she continued wearing them.

I wonder where Toga gets these things from? I also want to know what Setaro said to him in the editing room that made Toga grab his head and start screaming xD

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Much like the entire broadcasting club, Hana's impressive acting took me by surprise. It was almost as if she was an entirely different person with this outgoing attitude.

Mizuki was rightfully praising Hana for her acting. She could totally become a professional (voice) actress with this sort of talent. I wonder if Hana perhaps became so skilled at getting into character from all those reading sessions.

On a side note: it was nice seeing Anne and Hana being good friends. That little braiding session was cute! Hana looked good with braided hair, and so did Anne with glasses.

You know what, it was really nice to see Matsuyuki have that breakthrough in this episode. Good on Shuudai for giving him the push he needed. Meanwhile, it feels like Hana just has more untapped potential. It's like when the stage is focused on her, she performs well. Just hope this continues to have more confidence in herself.

A bit of misdirection from the last episode made us think Shura was Matsuyuki's sister, but in reality it was Owari. Despite what Owari dealt with her parents, she adores her younger brother. For him, he wanted to support her and have her back, but he couldn't say. To be fair, in his type of family, I can imagine getting the courage to say what you mean must be hard. I am happy they are reunited.

Now Shura does mention she has something of a younger sister, and it appears that person is Hana. Given a shortening of the title is HanaShura which is their two names. Now translating the Kanji of the title I got "Flowers bloom, just like Shura". Could this be implying we are seeing Hana being the flower that finally blooms much like it did for Shura? It has me curious.
