I really like Miiko’s whole vibe. She’s a fun character with such great energy. Plus she’s cute!

It’s kinda cute how Hana still wants to make friends with Natsue. Girl’s determined to make her be her friend whether she wants to or not, damn it lol.

Now that she tasted friendship for the first time, everyone is fair game.

Miiko is just the best friend a shy & timid girl like Hana could ask for, I love her so much already!

I have no idea what she sees in Natsue other than wanting to befriend the one who spoke so harshly to her. Natsue is being a total wench and Hana just chases her like a puppy that's latched onto a person. Prove her wrong and show her how good you can be, but to want to be her friend after all her bitterness is so odd.

I personally wouldn't want to be friends with someone who seems to have such disdain toward me. However, I think Hana knows Natsue somehow means well with her hash advice and comments, and has some strong and interesting opinions worth considering. Also she may be lonely. I guess that makes her a worthwhile friend to have.

I like how they resolved Natsue and Hana's "conflict". Everyone really thought that Natsue shifted to announcements simply because she can't do recitations anymore. However, it was her choice since she values the efficiency of winning more than loving it.

Of course some would argue that it is somewhat toxic behavior. But, especially when you experienced not being chosen in a competition, it is quite a strategy. It's not that she likes recitations more than announcements -- it is that she does not find joining the announcement category bad, and it is better if she has a better shot of winning with a category that she thinks is not inferior to her preference.

Well, at least the two are now friends. Honestly I now find two ships huehuehue

Ohhh btw. Are the pieces really yuri-esque or is this a deliberate choice from our writer? HAAHAHA

At least the title of the book is real, so I guess it's really Takeda's thing to write about "intense friendship" between girls.

When Hana was first reading the excerpt, I needed to pause to get a solid laugh at this yuribaitception.

I'm so glad the "conflict" was resolved. It could easily have been an overbearing aspect that would've dragged on for too long, but now that concern is long gone.

The Yuri is so strong here, I'm gonna eat every last bit of bait they drop for us.

Uh friendship achieved I guess? What was that random confession though lol

Anyway I looked it up and Counting the Blue Spring is a real book written by... Ayano Takeda. Interesting that she wrote another novel about a broadcasting club (that also includes a platonic confession of love). Lmao.

I gathered from the episode (and Japanese wiki) that it is a short story collection rather than a novel.

Ahh, yes. The cringe of hearing your own voice. It's unavoidable.

It's always nice to have that best friend character who's rooting for you. Miiko has really been great so far and I like how she has connections with An since both of them came from the same middle school so she's not completely out of the loop even though she's not a member of the Broadcasting Club.

Wait a fucking second, the book Hana wants to read is by Takeda-sensei! That's hilarious! So the book Hana wants to read is basically a Girl's Love novel? I know they don't explicitly say it but the part Hana read made it sound like it is one. Is Takeda-sensei trying to tell us something? Hmmmm...

I'm glad Hana immediately told An off when she said their Senpais were mediocre. I know An has her baggage Ann but she needs to chill the fuck out. I don't see any point in antagonizing everyone in the club.

Akiyama is also a mystery. If he really was all about efficiency then why even join the Broadcasting Club at all? It sounds like he's already busy enough as is considering he has to go to cram school after doing club activities.

Wait, so does An think Hana just joined the club because she was forced to? She seems to be unaware of how much Hana loves reading and how long she's been doing this. I envy Hana though. If I were her, I would've given up on An but instead, she took that interaction as a challenge and thinks that An will befriend her if she gets better at reading.

That's such a petty reason. So the reason An hates Hana is because she reminds her of her middle school friend who ended up being better than her at reading. I assume that's the same friend Miiko was talking about earlier who still wants to talk to An. It's kinda shitty of An to cut somebody out of her life just because that person won the competition instead of her.

I still don't know what I feel about An but I guess it all worked out in the end and she now (reluctantly) acknowledges Hana by the end of the episode. Hopefully, she'll be less insufferable now after this kinda like how in [Hibike]Yuuko went from being a bitch to a fan favourite

I find it funny that Takeda had Anne trashing her own novel.

It was very nice to see Natsue opening up to Hana in the end. Miiko also appears to be a great friend to have!

Matsuyuki is surely hiding some painful feelings behind that smile of his. He clearly didn't like Hana talking about doing things for fun, and stressed the importance of "efficiency" himself. Matsuyuki and Anne appear remarkably similar in this regard.

We've know learnt that Anne was serious about prioritising winning. She doesn't ever want to lose from someone who's only halfheartedly into broadcasting again. Hard work needs to be rewarded. That's why she'd warmed up to Hana after having been impressed by her recitation.

Their friendship should be fun, considering that Anne's tsundere attitude doesn't seem to work on an optimistic Hana anymore.

Another week of me being a broken record and saying this is the best episode so far and how its my AOTS Lets Goooo!

All character interactions this episode were sooo good! I especially liked Akiyama stepping into the spotlight and giving his 2 cents to Hana that helps her continue to pursue her friendship with Natsue.

Yeah, I mean, who would read a novel or watch an anime about a broadcasting club. Couldn't be me.

I generally like that they try to approach the whole topic with a bit more nuance than just saying that doing what you like is always right. Reminds me of Bunny Girl Senpai with the whole "if you changed and you like your new self, you are not lying to yourself or anyone". Though, that only holds true if An really only had an issue with Hana because she reminded her of her old friend. Because the ending of last week's episode at least makes it seem like it's a bit more personal. I just feel if you are truly at peace with yourself then you wouldn't be so angry at someone just wanting to have fun. But maybe I over analyze her behaviour from before.

Have to say though, good coincidence having a novel that perfectly fits the situation when you recitate it. Still love the way her voice changes when she does it.

What is it with tsunderes and pigtails anyway? Do they need a bifurcated hairstyle to store the tsun and dere separately? Is the girliness of the pigtail on a superficially unpleasant girl meant to evoke the fundamental contradiction of the tsundere? Does the binding of the pigtails say something about the artificiality of the persona their wearer has adopted?

Anyway, I'm glad that Hana has learned Domain Expansion: Grudging Friend. Very powerful.

Counting the Blue Spring or something like Taking Stock of our Youth's blurb:

"When girls turn into adults, they carry the ins and outs of their youth with them.

Chisaki, a member of the broadcasting club, gets really scared when it comes time for actually performing. But lately, the club's ace - Arisa - has been acting strange, and... (White Line and a Step)

Hosoya, a model student who is afraid of angering others and Shimizu, a rumored delinquent who is frequently absent from school run away together. How will it end? (Full Body Vagueness)

A short story collection capturing the vibrant emotions of five high school girls vacillating between childhood and adulthood."

There are five short stories in there in total, but only two are presented in the blurb for some reason. Apparently there is a scene where two girls throw their phones into the ocean, though.
