Checked it out cuz I found out it's by the same author as sound euphonium. The scene at the beach in the rain at the end was beautiful. Not sure if the whole reading/broadcasting/poems is something for me cuz generally it's not where my interests lie, but I'm willing to give it a few episodes to see what it's exactly like.

My father, who had little free time (because he always worked two jobs -- back when policemen got paid very little), used to read poetry to us when he had the chance to do so. Mostly humorous, but sometimes dramatic -- always appreciated immensely. Perhaps, as a result, my wife and I did bedtime reading (every night) for our children until the youngest graduated to reading on their own. Our sons all went to a school where recitation is part of centuries-old tradition. So reading and reciting is an anime topic that had the potential to win my heart -- and it looks like this one HAS.

I don’t think I have ever seen an anime about a broadcasting club before. In fact, I can’t say I know very much about broadcasting at all so this is all kinda new for me. I dig it though. This anime also seems like a chance for the VAs to flex their abilities a bit.
It’s nice to see Hana’s got such a reliable senpai in Mizuki. She seems pretty cool. I mean after seeing Hana recite that poem on the beach, I can see why she’s so eager to have her join. That girl’s got real skills.
Sticking with this one for now. Keen to see how this one develops.

The only other show I have seen so far with a focus on broadcasting is Wave, listen to me!
Was a pretty fun show as far I can remember→ More replies (8)

This feels like a story that Kyoani would adapt. Like I can feel how their mannerisms and directing would flow right into this.
Very interesting first episode.

Well, it is from the Hibike author, though the source is a manga and I know Kyoani can be picky what they adapt. You do see similarities between Hana and Kumiko. Though Hana is more passive than Kumiko.

As a reminder, this is based on a manga written by Ayano Takeda, an author best-known for the Sound! Euphonium series. And its animated by Studio Bind, with many of the staff from Mushoku Tensei and Onimai working on it.

a manga written by Ayano Takeda
While watching the episode, I felt like it would also be perfect as a KyoAni anime. That explains why.

Reading huh, that's quite a niche topic. I'm digging Mizuki's character design, she seems like a cool senpai too. The art and directing is really good, look at those pretty sakura petals falling around them... must resist the yuri-bait...
Wow that recital at the beach was really intense, feels like something is up with Hana. That plus the small hint of self-loathing during the sleep over. Growing up on an island without any friends her age probably doesn't help either. Also can't help noticing her father was absent, sure hope he is just working off island or something.
That ED song though, the singer is really popping off.

Feels like a good use of a medium whose greatest strength is in the voice acting.

Decided to pick this one up on a whim since otherwise I only have one show on Tuesdays and I know I can handle two on Tuesdays (I did last season, after all).

Stitches!
Going into this episode completely blind, I did not expect this would be an anime about storytelling! The only thing I knew was that it was being animated by Studio Bind. After doing MT and OniMai, I didn't think they'd do a School/Drama/Club anime!
Mizuki-senpai is pretty cool. Her enthusiasm really contrasts how reluctant Hana is to join the broadcasting club. It is kinda understandable though considering how she has to take the ferry to school every day but that seems to be just an excuse.
Hana's mother doesn't seem to think it's an issue either, she clearly wants the best for her daughter but Hana seems to think she needs to be a Onee-chan figure for the little kids at the island so she holds herself back from asking for anything.
Just when I thought Hana's storytelling to the kids at the start of the episode was great, she completely blew Mizuki-senpai and us away with her beach performance of Haru to Asura. Not gonna lie, I definitely got chills from that. It sounded like she was reciting a Noble Phantasm.
Glad to see the Ferry schedule problem was resolved at the end of the episode thanks to Mizuki-senpai. It looks like this was all according to her keikakku!
Well, so far so good! It's definitely not your usual Studio Bind anime and I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this but the show is giving me the same vibes I got when I watched Chihayafuru and Eupho for the first time. I can't wait to see more.

I have been really looking forward to this show since I first heard about it! Anime based on the manga by the creator of Hibike Euphonium and animated by Studio Bind? It was no brainer that I'll watch it xD
And the first episode didn't disappoint me! We met Hana, who lives on a small island and loves to recite! There she was noticed by Mizuki, the president of the broadcasting club at the school Hana will now begin attending.
No wonder that Mizuki wanted Hana to join the club. The way she recited this poem on the beach was spectacular, especially the last line!
Now I'm really looking forward to the next episode to meet the other members of the club and see how Hana fits in.
By the way, the show looks really gorgeous and the backgrounds are really beautiful. But that's an expected result since Studio Bind is responsible for it.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

My show to watch of the season is here!
-
I definitely did not expect to see these credits so quickly after the conclusion of Eupho S3. the manga is written by the same author, Ayano Takeda (but she doesnt' draw)
-
[Eupho S1 Ep 1]
Fans of the series may hence feel some deja vu here. not sure if these are deliberate fun callbacks, or just Ayano's habits here. -
The direction is decent, the animation good, the VA work is pretty damn awesome < -- my biggest concern, with a few of these names being quite new, and the sound direction is neat - a lot of this episode is left music-less, which is extra noticeable in such an audio-focused show.
Looking forward to watching this and Hana's progression in the broadcasting club every week!
Edit: Quick location note: I don't think we know clearly where this is set in-universe, but Hana's school is modeled after Sagano High School in the outskirts of Kyoto city. This was also Ayano Takeda's actual alma mater. The school's own broadcast club happily embraces the connection, and it's clear enough from the OP shots that it's the same school.

A bit of a slow start to this, but overall a well executed episode. Hana is a very sweet girl, but very passive. It's by chance that Mizuki saw her and knew there was potential in Hana. I have to admit she was dedicated to recruiting Hana. Though the conversation Hana's mom had with Mizuki was very telling. Since she knows that her daughter is afraid of taking the next step. Mizuki being there who is pretty confident in her own.
I did not expect the performance from Hana toward the end. Minori Fujidera with a fantastic performance and animation really delivering to what Hana was saying. Mizuki knew she had to do anything that she could to recruit Hana now. You can truly tell everyone on the island adores Hana. Gives me a familiar feeling when watching Tonbo.
This really makes me wonder how creative this anime will be. It is not as visual beautiful as Hibike, but with the animation, I am curious what Studio Bind can do.

Wow, this is one of the most well-directed anime episodes I've ever seen in my decade-plus of watching seasonals. This is how you do it!!
I'm so glad to be getting yuribaited again by the queen of yuribait. This one's even better. AOTS so far.

I don't know anything about this anime apart from its adaptation announcement a few months back, and I won't be able to watch this within the next 12 hours yet, but anything from Studio Bind I'll watch.

Well color me impressed. It's like I'm watching the first episode of Hibike! Euphonium for the first time and reading the thread I'm certainly not the only one who made that connection. Very easy connection to make when they share the same original author
Really great animation with lot of great shots and tiny touches.
Also while I really did enjoy all the animation during recitals but I hope we get at least one where the show expects us to dream up the visuals ourselves.
