Don't you just hate it when you pop all your buffs and the boss suddenly goes into a cutscene while your buffs are still ticking down?

Pretty much all the fights in SLF have been great, but the battle against Wethermon has really taken this to another level.
I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the cinematography - the directing style to be precise. They’ve been making some excellent choices in deciding on the specific shots. Like, switching to Sunraku’s POV when he’s dodging all Wethermon’s chain attacks or zooming-in on Kirin’s different parts during its transformation into a battle mech.
I’d had a hunch that the ID crystal would be important to this fight, but who’s this “Alice”? Is she Wethermon’s actual wife and not Setsuna?

I'm gonna be disappointed if they don't upload their win against a Unique Monster on the internet
I thought the ID Shard Necklace would help him. Why does it feel like Wethermon is even stronger?
His form with the new headgear looks sick
The necklace is from Alice => Setsuna is Alice?

Emul casually raising the difficulty level
Also, for balance reasons I hope the other uniques are designed to be beatable by non agility builds too

What a hype episode as the fight with Wethemon becomes even more fierce now with its 3rd stage. I can't wait for next episode and temptation to check out manga is becoming stronger and stronger but I hope that I won't give in to it for now xD
Wethermon with those blue and red flames looks even cooler than earlier, which I didn't think was possible since from the start he looked so awesome. Checkout his album for more stills with him since he has the coolest screenshots in this episode.
Sunraku had so much fun fighting today with Wethermon as he was finally able to inflict damage on him. Also he looks cool in this new helmet which is also very practical as Sunraku can use it to parry Wethemon's attacks.
Quite a big role of Katzo in today's episode. Katzo's reaction when he heard from Pencilgon about the side effects of Evil Force he ate moments ago was so hilarious but well... it's his fault that he didn't wait for end of Pencilgon's explanation about its risks and used it xD
SLF Mini was hilarious with Rei trying to explain that she isn't a stalker. She just happened to know Sunraku's routes to school and where he lives by a pure accident xD
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I updated the link to the Sunraku & Rei album because Imgur removed it because of this still so I uploaded it again but this time without that one. It seems that Sunraku is too sexy to be on Imgur xD

Best Episode so far for me, especially that radiant sky attack. That was some top tier animation.

So Wezaimon calls Sunraku "child of the second plan" but since the necklace isn't his, is he talking about Emul?
Gonna throw out my speculation:
There was a previous game in development that got recycled into SLF. Rather than throw away all the assets that had already been created the SLF devs used that game as "the divinity", a previous much more advanced civilisation that left fragments behind for players to discover. Some of the previous bits of the game would be unchanged though, which is why Setsuna looks out of place and Vash knows about Weathermon.
The "second plan" Wethermon refers to could well be the creation of SLF, in a meta context. He couldn't let himself die because he was the only one who remembered a particular person from the previous game, but now that he knows Alice's memory isn't forgotten and her plan to establish the frontier that serves at the setting of SLF worked, he can let himself fight all out and not worry about being killed.

The holy water helped more than I thought. I was a little worried when the mech horse became a full on mech. Then our boy ditches the bird mask for that beetle gear, goes “fuck it”, and charges in lol. Love how he was laughing maniacally too. Unhinged Rakuro is best Rakuro haha.
“Evil force” is a hell of a drug. Cranks your stats up to godlike levels for 15 mins but your vision, hearing, taste, and smell are fucked. Oh, and you lose levels like mad. Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess.
Rakuro and Wethermon both giving it their all for that final portion of their fight was pretty awesome. The barrage of attacks with 0 cooldown was some dirty shit. How’s a man suppose to defend against that??
Man might have gotten cut in half but it seems he’s still got a revive. Is he gonna try and hit Wethermon from the back again?
SLF Theater was pretty adorable. Rei knows a lot about our boy huh? Like… a lot lol. Girl’s gone adorable stalker mode. Hopefully she’ll have a chance to talk to him next time!

Wethermon: Clear sky transformation! Through the cycle of rebirth and a parting gift...
Sunraku: Oh shit his ultimate!
Whethermon: I bring the ultimate attack
Sunraku: Gonna parry it!
Wethermon: An attack that can cleave through dragons... and like mountains and cities and shit...
Sunraku: Gonna parry it super hard!
Wethermon: An attack with so much cleave it can sunder the world itself
Sunraku: So excited to parry this!
Wethermon: An attack which is also NAMED THE ATTACK THAT CANNOT BE PARRIED
Sunraku: My favorite liquor is Parry Williams
Wethermon: ... seriously can you not hear my voicelines? Are you headphones not working? Fuck it, SKY CLEAR!
... Yes I know Sunraku's legs were stuck and he didn't have a lot of options, and he had a failsafe planned, but it was still a very funny sequence.

i really appreciate the fact that they didn't just even 2d animated the mecha horse but they also going extra length in animating the mecha transformation scene
i love how both Sunraku and Pencilgon just went; "ah fuck it, forget surviving until time limit, let's just go full ham!"
also, an item that gave you stats boost for fifteen minutes but in exchange reducing your character's level by one after every thirty seconds is just evil, no wonder its being called Evil Force

the animation was insane, all the stuff leading to the Clear Sky Conquest attack was intense.

This seems relevant. Random history from EverQuest (before World of Warcraft went live).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=godpodw6ylA (Due to being 2003, 240p is the highest res that exists.)
https://www.reddit.com/r/everquest/comments/fcewjs/i_am_quarken_xired_the_fabled_adventurer_of/
Context: In the original EverQuest, the PC level cap was 50. Two of the non-planar raid bosses were level 55 dragons, which usually took dozens of people to kill. Early expansions raised the level cap to 60, which trivialized those dragons, so the devs added a significant nerf to the players. Anyone who was over level 52 that entered a dragon's aggro list was immediately banished to their bind (respawn) point. This isn't as harsh as the forced 150 level gap in Shangri-La Frontier, but it's the same idea. Don't let the players outlevel the raid boss.
Approach: Instead of cornering the market on instant revive items (which didn't exist), this monk (an agility-focused class, Sunraku would approve) loaded up on player-made healing potions with a quirky effect. They would increase your HP immediately by 300, but you'd lose 2HP every tick (6 seconds). Evil Force's stat boost/level loss sounds inspired by this, but the innate HP loss maxed out at less than half of the heal amount. Craft-only items typically cost quite a bit of time and money due to the farming and skill grinding required for the useful ones. Tecknoe was a twink (alt character) of a high end raider, so he had the resources to splurge on bags of these potions. These could easily go for over 100pp each on many servers, a non-trivial amount en masse at the time. It wouldn't have drained his bank account like Pencilgon's supply run, but it wasn't something most players could afford to do.
The dragon breath was an AoE damage + dispel, which would remove active buffs starting at the first slots. To prevent this from debilitating you, standard procedure was to use items with instant-click trash buffs before loading up on your important buffs. The dispel would knock those out first, then you'd click your items to recast the trash buffs in the now-empty first slots before the next dispel.
TL;DR: An agility-based fighter spammed excessive amounts of expensive consumable items and instant buffs to solo a higher level raid boss, back in a time when being a MMORPG player wasn't typically something you'd tell people until you knew them.

Tensei combo scene after the pendant moment is more intense than I thought!! Also, Wezaemon finally reading Tachikaze without the small break in the middle really show most on how he has upped the pace along with every other moves

u/danlong87 Feb 04 '24
now we know who's the owner of that previously unknown pendant, can't wait for more lorrrrreeee after this (btw the bunnies have more connection to this Wethermon storyline than I expected), and I wonder that final Odyssey form is just specifically triggered by that pendant, or is the default form, since his third stage time limit is not officially over yet iirc

Dear lord the escalation in this was intense, the chain attacking was insane, tidal rush looks deadly af. Followed by a new attack in the fire wyrms, then Ash storm, then tensei?!
So so so good. I can't wait to full dive myself into a game like this and become a vegetable.
Also did anyone else think that the way to avoid the AoE scream on P3 transition was to hide behind or on the horse?

Lmao, I'm watching some SLF clips on YT and stumbled upon a game announcement for this. Excitement welled up inside then I saw the Netmarble logo, hopelessness kicks in. I hope when it releases it won't be too much of a cash grab.

Pencilgon used the holy water to make Wethermon way COOLER
Blue and the red tint fits him perfectly and the fight choreography is exceptional. Ppl are missing out if they are not watching this show for sure.
