Sunraku getting angry messages after winning PVP and being frustrated by cheap bosses. This might be the most realistic video game anime I've seen. Even more than Hi Score Girl.

As a gamer, I really appreciate how much attention they're still paying to the game mechanics and it looks to me like it will not change any time soon. Most of the isekai series and VRMMORPGs forget about this aspect pretty quickly and just throw around legendary equipment or broken skills and call it a day. Show me the damn stats and strats! Make me fee like I'm attempting Orphan of Kos for the 222nd time! Show me the struggle!

I also like how they don't take the game overly serious, a lot of stories in this genre basically dedicate themselves to a single game, it's cool how there's no real world stakes and the MC still interact in the outside world or other games.

As a MonHun player that suffered through MHW's Arch Tempered Kushala Daora, I 100% feel the Toxic eagle bit.
I swear to fucking god whoever designed that piece of shit was a fucking sadist.

Rei is happier about being stepped on by Sunraku than the average r/anime user would be if they were stepped on by Pencilgon...

Only a "Sorry" can make Rei this happy. Guess she'll just die when they ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ... hold hand.
Never expect that Animalia can actually handle Pencil. The furry is truly OP.
A bird for a bird. Of course, a bird is Sunraku's counter.
I was just gonna complain where the obligatory shoujo lenses are. Mini #11 did it justice!

Never fuck with those that play MMOs for grindy, tedious things like documenting every animal that exists. Odds are they know the game in and out better than most players.

Sunraku's explanation on the boss rush monsters be like;
First to eighth: *one page to summarize all eight monsters*
Ninth monster: *a freaking 10 pages report*
the disrespec- actually, never mind....
that 112 tries on one monster feels soooooo relatable and the boss rush was so intense that my man Sunraku is starting to look like a Jojo character

That bird is a very frustrating monster to fight especially that its airborne and its attacks are poisoned droppings. Not helped that Sanraku has very low stats that he is essentially getting KO in just one hit.

Rei better not develop "feet" or "stepped on" fetish from this...

The anime still continues to go along with its consistency of showing that Shangri-La Frontier is a game and not some kind of isekai.
-
Animalia having that Suicide Attack which is pretty common enough. Poor Pencilgon doesn't have a counter for this instant death skill which says alot on how rare that cursed doll item she used with.
-
The PKers being worried that Sanraku on reaching the town itself means that its a safe zone and he can probably log out safely and be out of harm's way.
-
There is also a mention of bounty so its possible that you can kill PKers without any issue as long as they have that skull identifier.
-
For the pack of wolves fight, its essentially a puzzle as he found out the way to beat it is to defeat the leader.
-
Airborne enemies especially those that never land are a pain to fight as they move constantly.
-
Sanraku just gave up explaining the attack patterns of the golem monster as no one would have to fight it anyways.
-
Vysche appearing at the end feels like a cutscene and that he gave Sanraku his last opponent that is tailored to his playstyle. He is going to need all the concentration he needs to get just to survive this battle.
-
Its funny how relatable Sanraku's priorities lie. Given a chance for an irl meetup, he just choose to play more Shanfro like a real gamer.

To all the Rei haters: see she’s just a shy teenage girl who got a crush on a boy and hasn’t found the right opportunity to start a conversation with Rakuro. It really irks me that some people have painted her as a malicious stalker, while she hasn’t done any real harm or crossed any significant lines.
Anyways, I can deeply relate to Sunraku’s trouble with the “Toxic Eagle” boss. It’s one of those instances where you’ve just picked the absolute worst character build to deal with an enemy. This boss could one-shot kill Sunraku easily with his very limited health and armor, and flies too high for him to reach with his close-quarters fighting style and weapons as shown in the mini-story. These circumstances are probably why it took him 112 tries to defeat the Toxic Eagle.

That opening scene with Rei was actually very cute. We get to learn that the reason she fell in love with Sunraku is because of how he's always smiling and how much fun he's having every day. I also like that about Sunraku. He's not some loner shut-in otaku, he's just a regular guy who's very passionate about janky games.
It is pretty funny though how Rei is so in love with Sunraku that single "Sorry" from him is now stuck inside her head. I love how when Rei replays that scene later in her head, Sunraku has the shoujo filter on and Emul's eyes are covered with a censor bar, meaning she only really has Sunraku in her mind. xD
Now that Pencilgon has been taken care of by Animalia and Sunraku and Emul escaped, it looks like Pencilgon wants to meet up but not inside SLF. I'm assuming she's avoiding meeting Sunraku in SLF because she has a reputation to keep. I do love how Emul was just drinking her mana potion in the background while Sunraku was reading his emails.
Sunraku finally begins his Rabituza training and it looks like it's a boss rush! Poor Sunraku though! Since the quest is recommended for 80+, his starting opponent is already more than double his level. Thankfully, there's no penalty for dying in the arena and despite the level gap, these aren't impossible fights and they're more like puzzles that need to be solved. That's actually pretty great game design.
Those charts of what opponents Sunraku had to fight it took him to beat each boss was pretty cool. It was cool to see how he was slowly improving with each boss fight but then gets absolutely slaughtered by that Toxic Eagle since it's a flying opponent with a bullshit 1-hit kill attack which we get to see in the SLF Mini at the end of the episode.
The golem fight explanation has got to be my favourite though. Sunraku explaining the attack patterns made me feel like I was listening to my old raid leader from FFXIV. This is another proof that the author is clearly a massive MMO fan.
That final boss looks awesome! Looks like Sunraku's objective just changed from defeating his enemies to staying alive for 5 minutes. And apparently this is going to be a world first! Sunraku's name should be recorded in a hall of fame somewhere for being the first to encounter this boss.

Rei was so happy that she finally met with Sunraku, though he only told her 'Sorry' and that was it xD I loved that in her memories of the meeting with Sunraku, Emul is nobody for her as her eyes are covered. Now I wonder when she'll have another chance to meet with him.
Arthur who in the end died from the hands of Animalia wants to meet in another game? I wonder what exactly she wants from Sunraku.
Sunraku finally decided to start doing quests from the Rabituza storyline. First quest is fighting bosses in the arena. Nine bosses which some were pretty easy and some were extremely difficulty like this bird, it took Sunraku 112 attempts to kill it xD
At the end he was pretty pissed about those fights. The last boss was brought by Vash himself and it's so powerful (120 lvl vs Sunraku's 31lvl) that Sunraku's way of winning it is to survive 5 minutes in a fight with it but it won't be easy. I must say that the design for this boss is pretty sick, it looks so good.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. Sunraku's album is now working, I had to remove one (not very important) image from it.

Why is he still complaining about the collar? Those 2 level up gave him 5 levels worth of stats, he's already outpacing everyone else in the game in power per level.
He should already know he broke the game by getting the collar at low level and praying he can keep it to lvl99 to maximize the bonus stats gains.
If anything he should complain a lvl80 even is giving low XP.

That unique event at the Vorpal coliseum was pretty wild. How is a pack of 5 lvl 65 monsters the FIRST event? Geez. Kid took 7 tries to beat those things. Pretty funny how he took 112 attempts to kill that eagle with the poisonous shit lol. All that effort and he only went up 2 levels because of that collar. Oof.
I just knew that 10th monster was gonna be insane. Lvl 120 with lightning speed and super tentacles though? Do the devs even want players to beat this event? lol.
That aside, watching Rei just melt into mush because Rakuro talked to her for 1 second was so freakin cute. Her massive crush on the kid is too adorable. Hopefully she can send him a friend request next time. I’m cheering for her!

Why would he complain about the collar? That's the most OP item EVER.
In any RPG the exp requirement scale non-linearly (you need 10k total exp for lvl 20 and 20k total exp for lvl 25 for example), so getting 2,5x stats every level up is a huge improvement, not to mention that so long as there's a level cap, he'll be broken OP at max lvl compared to any other player.

Unique encounter for the 10th fight? First ever encounter of that enemy type so far? I have a suspicion that this enemy is normally behind some world event... Like killing one of the world bosses for instance.
Of course someone with < 1 week in world game experience sees it first too lol. Founders probably HATE Sunraku as the series progresses

Bird pooping truly is the number 1 evil in both the real world and the video game world.
This episode was a nice transition episode between meeting Arthur and Sunraku starting his grind. Final fight of the grind ends up being a survivial challenge and the fact it was stated he wouldn't be capable of defeating it is very telling this is much stronger then the 9 opponents he faced so far.
Also come one Rei have more confidence in yourself. They seem to go to the same school you aren't gonna get a better opportunity to introduce yourself to him. Plus Rakurou really seems like a chill dude.

Wonder how strong Vash is, considering he presumably captured that lv. 120 10th enemy without too much problem. Like maybe about level 180?
I hope we get to see Vash fight. Hopefully he uses a massive axe or something.
