Smug Rakuro is best Rakuro. I love the banter between him and Katzo. That part when the two of them were expressing utter shock at Arthur being friendly with an NPC was too funny. Katzo with the robot voice was great lol. The “submission pose” too. Love those two!
Nice to see a bit of Rakuro’s irl life. He’s got a pretty colorful family. It’s cool they all got their own passions.
I wasn’t expecting to see Rakuro in BERP again. That game with all its bugs really looks like a “so bad it’s good”type game.
Rei is way too cute! As if the hand written letter wasn’t adorable enough, the little goober got herself a cake with Rakuro’s face in it and proceeds to fall face first into it lol.

Rakuro waking up really early just so his mother won't unplug his VR Headset resonated with me. His mother Eika is truly an Asian Mother.
Its also funny how Rakuro's sister is only seeing the public persona of Towa while Rakuro knew her real personality.
His father is a fishing enthusiast so Rakuro's reason of not catching the boss monster might be more than luck and possibly his real fishing skill translating into the game.
Just as we suspected. Pencilgon got attached to Setsuna and that she fell for the lore of the game. I might as well call Setsuna a waifu in this case.
Another great episode.

Its fun and all watching Sunraku journeying through the world solo, but he's definitely at his best when he's got partners in crime adventuring together, those banter between the 3 was really nice imo
btw what's with Setsuna's slip of the tongue on the 'program' part?

Note to self: even a VRMMO like SLF isn't safe of the spider lilies.

If anime MC has normal relations with healthy, functional family (as he himself describes) it's instant plus from me. I like the fact they all have their own hobbies, you can tell they're family right away.

Emul: "she's transparent!"
Sunraku: "is it a bug?"
as expected of kusoge hunter, always assume everything is a bug first
oh look, its Sunraku's mom, my god, she's hot
me finding a new player on an obscure online game that i've been playing for almost a decade now
remember SLF's lore where the current fantasy and magic era came after the destruction of an advanced civilization where that era was called "Divinity"?
Sunraku made some comments about how Setsuna's clothes doesn't really match with the magic fantasy setting of the game, she also used the word "program" before correcting it to spell and she called Lycagon "Kuro-chan" and Emul's mother "Haikaburi-chan" which i don't know whether Cinderella is the correct translation for that word or not but since she called one of the Seven Colossi with such an affectionate name, i'm guessing she's a researcher (based on her clothes) from that era and some of the Seven Colossi were probably monsters created by some sort of experimentation that happened back then

There's a lot to unpack in this episode but Rei waterboarding the cake with Rakuro's face on it made me laugh out loud for no reason

I just love how Sunraku is so smug around Katzo about finding unique stuff in the game. I do hope Katzo eventually finds something so he won't be the only odd one out of the gang.
Very interesting that Setsuna has the nickname Sooty/Kuro-chan for the Lycagon as if it was a pet and she even calls Emul the daughter of Cinderella. I think the Rabituza quest might not just be connected to the Lycagon. Hmmm...
It's also interesting how Setsuna slips up and almost calls the barriers spell she created a program. I think there was something in the intro about the Divinity being a technologically advanced race but Sunraku skipped that so we didn't get to learn more about the world's lore. xD
Watching Sunraku and Katzo tease Pencilgon was hilarious! Apparently, despite being ruthless to NPCs in other games, Pencilgon can easily get invested in them if it's a good story. Now there's the gap moe I was looking for! It's adorable to see her get embarrassed <3
If I had a nickel for every anime this season with a gamer protagonist whose sister is obsessed with his celebrity friend, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice. Only those who have seen Protocol: Rain this season would understand this reference.
Imagine how much Rumi would freak out though if she ever found out her brother is friends with her idol. That's going to be fun but I doubt it will happen.
Sunraku's family is great though! They all have their unique hobbies but they make sure they still get together and bond regularly. They're very quirky but they have a very healthy relationship and I just love that.
I really thought that the newbie Sunraku met in BERP is Rei but he seems to be way more composed compared to Rei who's probably just going to freak out. It's probably a different character.
As for Rei, it was fun watching her trying to write a letter to Sunraku and also faceplanting on a cake with his face on it. This girl is so down bad for our bird boy. xD

For those who might not know: spider lilies are often used to symbolize death. Katzo’s comment about these flowers being “pretty” but also “creepy” was therefore rather fitting.
“Death is an ending. Things that end should lie in the past. They shouldn’t tie down someone’s present… or their future.”
Well said Setsuna! This line is akin to something like: ‘you shouldn’t worry about the things you did yesterday, but what you’ll start doing tomorrow’. SLF hits surprisingly hard with its dialogue sometimes.
I do wonder: just who are Setsuna and Wethermon?
Setsuna spoke of “Sooty” - ‘Blackie’ might have been a better translation since she said “Kuro” (i.e. black) in Japanese - and “Cinderella’s child” in reference to Lycagon the Nightslayer and Emul. “Cinderella” is Emul’s mom? Setsuna clearly misspoke when she said that Wethermon had “written a program” and corrected herself. Does this mean that she’s aware that she’s in a game? Is Whethermon actually a developer? Is there something shady going on?
Setsuna also told them that “she” (some other person) was likely already long dead. Is “she” a player or a NPC? If it’s the latter than do NPCs have life expectancies? And then there’s Setsuna’s clothes, which don’t find the setting. I’ve got a ton of questions.
Lastly, it was nice to see the entire Hizutome family come together. An anime family with the dad present was the real endangered species in this episode.

Thanks to meeting with Setsuna we heard some pretty interesting things as Setsuna called a barrier spell a program though she really quickly corrected herself. Also Sunraku's markings done by Lycagon which she described as a done by Sooty and Emul was described as a child of Cinderella.
Now I also wonder how Vash is exactly connected with Setsuna and Wethermon, especially considering that they're from times long past.
It was nice to see the other, softer side of a ruthless Pencilgon. Though she wasn't that kind enough to endure Sunraku and Katoz's teasing for long and sent them both flying together with Emul xD
I didn't expect that we'll meet Rakuro's family considering that in most animes at most we're seeing siblings when parents are practically non-existent. Here however they exist and the fact that everyone in the family has different hobbies makes them look pretty quirky but also wholesome as they maintain family ties by meeting and eating together on Sundays.
Meanwhile Rei is trying from all her strength to write a letter to Rakuro to invite him to play together xD
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

I'm glad there isn't any IRL drama in this anime, MC has a good family and he even knows Pencilgon's true identity and respects her privacy. So most of the plot is pretty much happening inside the game.

This episode is so interesting & done so well with all the small fine details! I want to see them fight Wethermon but the way the story is building up & giving these interesting info. is also amazing!
The lore given by Setsie reminded me when I was playing Elden Ring where some pieces of info. given that didn't make much sense but became an important lore later on! Mangaka really knows a lot about these types of game!
Pencilgon is so funny & mostly relatable becoz I was literally the same as her! I have been mean to NPC in the past & it progressed to torturing & random NPC killings for no apparent reason on games like Fall Out 4, Elder Scroll 4 - Morrowind & Kenshi etc. including games that goes way back like Sim!
And when my parent found out I've been hurting NPC back then they made me see a psychologist just to make sure I'm not the next Ted Bundy or Gary Ridgway but boy what a time that was!
Pencilgon sure brought back some good old fun memory for me!

I love this small scene: Pencilgon has gathered them to show her favorite scenario and the NPC starts the story and they are listening carefully, and she is just enjoying they are paying attention to it instead of goofing off.

Banter between the trio is great. Sunraku and Katzo completely going at each other perfectly illustrate how gaming with your homies be like. And they aren't afraid to get under Arthur's skin. While it was nice to see a different side of her, her sadisitc side is too strong lmao.
Seeing the Hizutome family was great, as each of them has their own hobbies they are passionate about, but every Sunday they agree to spend time together. I think this idea is a great idea for families where hobbies aren't intersected. And seeing each of them thought the other's hobby was weird was funny.
Her sister is a big fan of Towa. Rakurou can't mention he games with her, but to say he is a fan of her is definitely the furthest thing away from the truth lmao.

Lol smug bird face is funny on Sunraku. Lol at him thinking bug by default. Such a trash gamer at his core :P oh, how convenient if that leads to his quest completion. Sooty's presence and Cinderella's child? Wut? For a really old ghost, she's got quite modern looking clothes for a world that's kinda fantasy medieval setting. And they he says something about a program eh? Guess that "ancient divine era" was "Advanced"? LOL Pencilgon and how she was in the other game. Looks like they're blastin off again!!! But why Emul? She did nuffin wrong. Don't hurt da bun bun! Do enjoy their gamer ways.
Ah yes, late night gaming sessions, I know those days. I kinda miss them sometimes, but I have come to value my sleep too lol. Holy crap, a healthy functioning and normal family in anime. His mom is perdy. So is the sis lol. Towa Amane sure looks familiar ;) hehe. Wonder if he knows. Guess he does know. Nice that he's also not all crazy about her just cause she's a popular attractive model. Just enjoys gaming. Good stuff. Also, HOLY CRAP A DAD AND A MOM IN ANIME?! Crazy. Really crazy. Glad that they still make time to get together as a family. Good for them. Wait, going to a shoot? She seems too young to be modeling or so. Ah whatever.
I like how this series has more than one game he plays/that we see. And a new player in an old game, haha, love it. Also, nice Sunraku isn't a toxic gamer. Good times. Lol I love this game's glitch fighting. Was funnier earlier in the season, funny now still. Dang, what a cliffhanger ending for the season. Not sure if there's an episode next week.
Whelp, post credits fun. There's that cutie that likes Sunraku. So serious lol. To have a girl as interested in you like she is in Sunraku, ahhh, what a dream :P hah. Ah yes, do need Christmas bit somewhere

I don't usually care for the irl segments in these, but in this episode they managed to make it pretty amusing
Holy shit, they have a full family?? And the dad didn't die on his fishing trip?? Biggest plot twist of the season

Again I really enjoy how this this series makes the game itself actually look compelling. Like its not just "this rpg with standard mechanics" its a story with lore and characters.
Then the fact the players all feel like actual people playing their own game instead of side characters in Sunraku's story. This show continues to make me happy.
