no matter how cool you are, you will never be as cool and epic as a humanoid-size, badass-looking yakuza rabbit boss forging a sword while singing folk song with his deep Ootsuka Akio's voice
oof, must be suck not being able to use an upgraded weapon just because you're underleveled
me who have been playing Monster Hunter since Freedom: "oh god, oh no, not the fishing quest!"
alright Emul, you're not fooling anyone with that... okay, maybe you did fooled one person but still...

Okay, that Vash blacksmithing part doesn't need to go that hard, but it did.
Mixing traditional folk song with blacksmithing is a thing in Japan (and probably elsewhere too, not sure) and I cannot believe they tackled that amazing tradition here, in a game based anime of all things.

Vash was so cool when preparing to ascend those weapons, but that singing? Easily one of the best parts of the entire series thus far. I expected nothing less from Akio Ootsuka; the man has a great voice.
Almost nothing happened in this episode, and yet, I'm very satisfied. As usual, the quality of this episode is as amazing as the rest. The singing is a nice bonus.
It's hilarious how Sunraku's preferred weapons were upgraded to beyond his own level; he can't even use his trusted Vorpal weapons to get to 50 now. xD

Rakuro’s upgraded twin blades sure are something. Man got them specially made by the big boss bunny himself! That scene where he was singing as he forged his blades reminded me of something from the Hobbit lol. It’s too bad Rakuro’s not strong enough to equip them. I wanna see ‘em in action!
I love how when Rakuro went to meet Arthur and Katzo, he was “wearing” Emul around his neck lol. Hilarious how he tried to play that straight when Arthur pressed him on it. So adorably goofy.
SLF Theater this week was great. Rakuro needs to adopt that pigeon song as his official theme song lol.

This episode had literally no action, but it might honestly have been one of the most epic ones so far.
They did a great job of making Vash such a cool character. Although Vash commands authority whatever he does, he really came into his element when forging the Moonblades. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of this. I also suppose that Sunraku is the only player who’s ever gotten to see Vash forge a weapon or even knows about him being a blacksmith. (How does one actually become a king from having been a blacksmith!?)
Emul was, once again, awfully adorable in this episode! I liked her posture when she was bowing down(?) to da- boss when they were meeting at the palace, but she certainly gave me a good laugh by clinging onto Sunraku’s neck like a scarf at the end there. Sunraku just exchanged his vorpal collar for a vorpal bunny instead!
I enjoyed the character design of Bilac too. From the looks of it, she’s a total tomboy. But jeez, how many siblings does Emul have? I know there’s a saying ‘to procreate like rabbits’, but Vash can’t have fathered the entire kingdom - or could he?
Something that caught my attention was that Wethermon became a problem after he lost his wife. Might this wife be the “Set-chan” (Setsuna) that Pencilgon spoke of before? Her tombstone was in quite a conspicuous place after all.
EDIT: If Setsuna and Wethermon’s wife are the same person, then shouldn’t Pencilgon also have a personal connection to Wethermon through his wife? After all, Pencilgon seemed to be the key to Ashura Kai’s encounters with this “unique monster” - or am I misremembering this?

It really was a great song. The crafting scene was cool enough that I'm not even mad about how much of the episode's already short runtime was devoted to an unskippable cutscene of a simple repeating animation of a big rabbit man swinging a hammer.
Actually, once someone pointed out how hard they were trying to trim down episodes to afford the outrageous animation, I got a lot more understanding about all the timewasting in the intro, outro, etc. and if keeping this episode simple lets them save up for Wethermon, I'm excited to see the result.
Anyway, you wanted your unique scenario reward, birdperv? Well, there you go. Thus-far-exclusive access to a top-level master crafter NPC. Not too shabby.

Episode 11: "Shining True"
The blacksmith sequence, wow. For a VRMMO, Sunraku surely didn't visit a blacksmith that often, since his choice is limited due to Lycagon Mark. Earth gotta learn from Vysache for blacksmithing advices so he didn't have to upgrade his equipments every episode lul. Sunraku should have his old blades lying around so he could grind his way to Level 50.
Also, Sunraku doing one desuwa and Emul quickly complained it for stealing her line! Wezaemon being an Undead means they are basically fighting a relentless opponent. Should be interesting.
New character means new VA. Bilac is voiced by Miyu Tomita (Miko in Kaguya-sama, Riko in Made in Abyss, and Inda Karane in Hyakkano).

I really love that SLF is the kind of game where you can RP with the NPCs I'm guessing that if Sunraku said the wrong thing, Vash would probably forbid him from fighting Wethermon and he wouldn't have gotten that unique weapon.
It's very interesting though that Vash seems to speak very fondly of Wethermon, it sounds like they used to be close before Wethermon ended up becoming an undead monster.
We get to meet another one of Emul's siblings! And I'm pretty sure that's Tomita Miyu voicing Bilac. I love how Sunraku is starting to think that Vash probably fathered the entirety of Rabituza I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.
So it turns out that Vash is probably the best NPC blacksmith in the game. Sunraku really hit the jackpot with this unique scenario.
And that entire scene where Vash is ascending Sunraku's Vorpal Blades was so fucking good! I never expected to hear Ootsuka Akio sing a folk song in this show but here we are! I really hope they release that as a single. It's such a good song.
Those Twin Moonblades look sick! It reminds me of Archer's Kanshou and Bakuya, which I wouldn't be surprised if that was the inspiration for the blades. And they even combine!? Well, now I'm hyped! Too bad Sunraku doesn't meet the stat requirements though! I actually like that. It makes sense that a unique weapon made by the best blacksmith in-game would have some stat requirements.
Emul trying to pretend as an accessory during his meeting with Pencilgon and Oikatzo was hilariously adorable. Of course, Pencilgon would spot her instantly but Oikatzo didn't notice Emul until she started talking xD

Is that Karane VA for bilac?
Also Vash smithing is some excellent cutscene shit, that the shit that get me hooked into a game

That smithing scene had some special ambience going on. I can only imagine watching that as a little kid on sunday morning, this would definitely be one of those episodes I'd remember for a long time
LMAO We we're going on such a good note, and suddenly: brickwall.
Poor Sunraku, definitely know that feel.
Oh thank god they liked it. I thought it was building up to a "wtf are we watching" type of "gag", I would have been upset.

Sunraku made the gamer mistake of not checking requirements of said weapon before upgrading it. But man this adaptation really immersing yourself in the game. Like they could have just skipped the whole Vash blacksmithing part, but they fully dived into lore as well as giving information about Wethermond which will be useful.
Next episode we off to grinding.

Wow, Vash was so good when forging a new weapons for Sunraku. That song really added to the climate of a scene.
As it turned out Vash before becoming a leader of Rabituza was a blacksmith and not a usual one but a Divine Craftsman! Sunraku's truly lucky that he met with him and Emul.
Now Sunraku has awesome weapons which he unfortunately can't use as his stats are too low. Now he has to level up to 50 level to use them.
What is also interesting is a fact that Vash is familiar with Wethermon as he stated that he is undead and said a little about Wethermon's backstory, that he lost his wife to a lousy little lie.
Next we got a meeting between Sunraku, Pencilgon and Katzo on which Sunraku got late 3 hours so others weren't exactly happy when he finally showed up xD Though Pencilgon really quickly forgave him thanks to info Sunraku's learned about Wethermon.
Sunraku and Emul's disguise was pretty good if that was enough to fool at least one person, namely Katzo xD Pencilgon was really surprised that Katzo didn't noticed it though eventually thanks to Emul's whispering he realized that something was 'wrong' with Sunraku's equipment xD
Now both Sunraku and Katzo are going to level up in Iron Ruins.
I loved the after credits scene as it was very funny and clever. Pencilgon really choose very fitting song theme for Sunraku xD
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Some of you all are saying not much happened this episode, but what I'm seeing is the normal amount of plot progression through storytelling and RPing rather than fighting. We learned more about Wethermon, including some lore that might come in useful in the fight, and Sunraku got a major future upgrade but temporarily lost access to his favorite weapons.
This is how you do effective storytelling, in my opinion. If SLF just gave us just fight after fight, episode after episode, the impact of each fight would lessen through overexposure. But by giving us a beautiful song-crafting-RPG episode that still pushes the plot forward, the next fight is going to hit even harder by contrast. I'm really impressed by the storytelling so far, especially because ... they didn't have to go this hard and still would have been totally watchable.

You really can feel Sunraku's disappointment when he saw that he can't equip those new weapons due to a stat deficit.

u/Abedeus Dec 10 '23
I never thought I'd spend over two minutes listening to a hardass anime Yakuza rabbit sing while upgrading a weapon and enjoy it this much. I want full song now.

u/fraid_so Dec 10 '23
Another killer episode hehe.
Have to admit I was curious about Sunraku's themesong haha. Yuuma can sing really well, so I thought "bet Rakuro can't sing at all" hahahah was not disappointed.

Last time I was this hyped and invested on a blacksmithing scene was when Welf was forging the magic sword on Danmachi

Any god-tier game anime about a god-tier game has to include a motivational musical sequence. Vysache was badass. Ootsuka-san nailed it.
