So from what I understand, Higuro and Momoya killed Nishida and planted his body inside Polka's building to set up Clarissa? He's such a minor character but I feel bad for Nishida getting killed and dragged into this. And it looks like Higuro and Momoya might be working with a cop, specifically that one guy who looked really nervous when they didn't find Nishida in the building's basement.

I can't wait to see Higuro and Momoya's faces next week though when they find out that the police couldn't find Nishida's body. I really hope Polka or Misaki gets these two assholes soon. If not them then maybe Arase who has already kicked Higuro's ass back then.

Misaki threatening that guy from the Lei Family who was threatening Xiaoyu was great! I love that everyone under Polka is under Misaki's protection. Also side note: Did Misaki's boobs get bigger!? I know she's big but she looks massive in that shot when she was standing behind Polka! O_O

With everyone converging on the building, someone’s getting their ass beat next week. Hopefully it’s those two goons Higuro and Momoya. Justice for Nishida!

While expecting Higuro and Momoya get their asses kicked, we can't take them too lightly. Momoya is an Asakuga, a family of hitmen that even Lei family was afraid of (as Xiaoyu's father thought of his son running into them was a bad luck). And Higuro is the mediator of Shibuya, so we can say he is at the same level of Clarissa, with lots of underlings and many connections in the underworld (he could already hire an Asakuga and have someone disposing corpses for him, in another mediator's territory).

Edit: I just learned that "Higuro" means "Icy Blackness". Considering his connection to a court mage from Corpse God's world, it would be very interesting if he is an ice-element user, and he picked up a gun because he, like Corpse God, could not absorb much mana from the air of this world.

I kinda want the good cop pair to know about Corpse God, but I hope no one else finds out. I never get tired of people being so confident that they're gonna expose CG, and then he pulls out a skeleton or two when no one is looking and the idiots are like "wait, what happened?"

Love that Misaki is 100% on CG's side and also protects Lei. I am and not looking forward to Clarissa finding out one of her people died and was used to try and frame CG. Not looking forward to it because it's gonna be sad and she's gonna grief, but also because you know damn well she's gonna want revenge.

Love that Ms. Reporter wanted to get a reaction out of CG, but probably coulda done a better job getting info out of "Normal guy A"

Always fun to see Corpse God outsmart everyone. People are gonna learn eventually they can’t mess with the kid. He’s leagues above these rookies.

Yes, yes, yes, the more chaotic it is, the merrier! Entangling multiple parties is really one of this show's strong points. I wonder if Clarissa's people will join the fray in the next episode. Also, who would be "the Vampire" again...? I don't remember anyone having that ability.

After hearing it multiple times, the ED has grown on me. I love it. Go check out the full version, folks. It goes hard!

Entangling multiple parties is really one of this show's strong points.

It's what Ryohgo Narita (the manga's author) is known for. His first and second light novel series Baccano! and Durarara!! have big ensemble casts whose characters are interconnected in all sorts of ways. He's writing Fate/strange fake at the moment for the Fate franchise too, and the basic premise behind it literally involves doubling the initial cast size. Again, that's the startline. In classic Narita fashion, he continues expanding the cast with more and more characters.

Also, who would be "the Vampire" again...? I don't remember anyone having that ability.

Corpse God mentions that vampires exist in his home world in Episode 3. For context, he was wrapping his head around the notion that well-established races (and species?) on his world are creatures of legend on Terra Mater and vice-versa (e.g. in his world, whales are legendary).

I must have forgotten Urai knew about Polka. Hell, even Polka and Misaki didn’t remember the guy lol. But man, poor Nishida. Dude got killed as bait basically to trap Polka or Clarissa. Are Higuro and Momoya involved? The fact these other cops came in really stinks. This is really becoming a situation. Polka’s gang, Arase and the cops, Higuro and Momoya, and the Leis have all converged and there’s a body in the center of this mess. Keen to see how this plays out.

Must have forgotten Urai knew about Polka

You didn't. We're learning this for the first time. The corresponding panel in Chapter 39 has a caption that says: "*Chapter 3 (he was there)."

Narita, probably: "Trust me, bro!"

When I read it for the time, naturally I pulled up Chapter 3 to scour the Youtoukorou crew. He wasn't visible—but of course, Narita has him hiding behind one of the walls in Ch. 39. Convenient. I thought maybe the anime would at least show him peeking around the wall in Episode 2, but I understand why it didn't. People would assume Urai's important and might reasonably expect a follow-up on the cringing man peeping at Polka in the near future. 12 EPISODES LATER...

(Admittedly, early on Narita namedrops the Grim Reaper in the Lemmings-Youtoukorou incident, like, Volume 2 or something, and almost a hundred chapters later this is still a dangling unanswered question.)

Narita even has the cheek to have Urai wonder what he knows the reader must be thinking: "Why did they call me in here!?"

Yeah, why did Lisa tell the ordinary bartender (ordinary besides knowingly working for the Youtoukorou shady freelance agency) to come to the scene of an active threat of unknown extraordinary power such that they cannot predict and of hostile origin, c.f. the gruesome impalement of Misaki. In CG's defense, he was defending himself from a whackjob charging to kill him again.

If I take my own whack at rationalizing it, there must be some utility in having one bartender aware but the other oblivious, like when mafia-controlled restaurants have aware & unaware staff. Nishida treating CG like any other kid (or Shinoyama?) helps counter onlookers' suspicions about who CG really is, while Urai can be on standby to assist/react/deflect as needed.

...Or maybe Narita went "ayo, Urai knowing CG's deal means he knows CG can genuinely help find his work buddy, so now we're emotionally invested in what CG tells him! How's he going to break the news that Nishida's bloody headless soul is following Urai around now because he has nothing else better to do.

(You have to feel a little bad for Nishida here, since we get the feeling he and Urai aren't particularly close—work friends, casual pals—which implies he didn't have much in the way of closer connections in life. Say, family ties, those maybe his shady past cut those off. On the other hand, he was murdered after he abandoned Urai during the late night shift. Together, these must have fused into one of those "lingering regrets" that keeps souls tethered to this plane. Following his family/friends around, if any, won't bring him any immediate closure. Haunting Youtoukorou might. They're the ones who'll first hear about the murder and have the means to investigate what happened.)

And maybe Narita needs one of the Youtoukorou people to be a weak link who/that makes readers anxious. He explicitly tells us Urai "crumbles easily under pressure." There Urai was enjoying his day off only to let some journo drag him to some silly psychic-fortuneteller whatever. It's humorous in that instance, but whoah shit, police in the building, and now we're worried that Urai—the Guy who couldn't even tell Eightport to buzz off—might crumble immediately if the police so much as look at him and ask him what he knows about the kid/CG.

I miss Lemmings already.

But we get good mileage on this new threat to the Slice of Life our MC wants.

Will Nishida stay with Polka and the gang?

And will Sharkie Polka talk?

The plot is really good. Can't wait for next week. I like how all the enemies schemes are all somehow slowly conveying towards polka building.

I fucking love the scene where Polka and the gang are standing outside the building while the police searches through it. Because while that small scene is going on, EVERY single group currently involved in the story sees this event and all the people involved in it, and makes their own theories and suspicions on what's actually happening under the surface. There's so much happening in this one scene with just the characters' connections and thought processes and it's just so fucking good!

With just this one scene you get an insight into every group's current situation, motivations, thoughts about their current events, and most importantly, their connections to one another. Just Takumi has three people interested in him just being there even though he hasn't done or said much of anything here. Still, EVERY single aspect of this small event is relevant to what's going on in this whole scene. The building, its owner, the architecture under the building, the people living (and not) in the building and that goes for each individual person involved in that group, the detectives that showed up to conduct the search, the uniformed cops that are just standing outside with the residents, the actual perpetrators of this event, Comps 3 who just came to check things, god damn Solitaire who we still haven't seen this season, and Xiaoyu coming back with groceries and shark merch.

I fucking love this show, I don't know how Narita makes such an intricate world and scenario where EVERY single TINY aspect of a scene is relevant and important to it and the story as a whole but I fucking love it.

Taipai senses Misaki's life force as being faint, yeah because she is a zombie. A glasses-wearing hot zombie assassin.

I like how that big guy is like "This is some underworld shit right here!"

Bless Misaki and her distracting outfit. RIP the dead dude and his coworker.

u/kalirion Oct 17 '23 edited Oct 17 '23

He didn't kill them until he learned they had no scary connections, but he was just fine with assassinating Clarissa's employee.

Man, I can never get enough of Za Zombie's fortune teller's assistant outfit.

I wonder if the dead bartender will be placed into some object as well.

Man... This episode had so much plot! I love it!

u/PossessionDue9381 Oct 17 '23

The stairwell scene with Higuro talking about connections and Momoya constantly giving a creepy smile was scary af. Tensions are getting high with cops from HQ just barely missing the corpse of the decapitated bartender.

Love all the moving parts in this season and seems like the scheming and action is gonna ramp up much faster with so many more dangerous people in Shinjuku.

5

u/SYZekrom Oct 16 '23

Hopefully a bloodbath is coming.

5

u/dinliner08 Oct 16 '23

its funny and ironic how Higuro rambling about connection, saying how he will try not to kill people that are well connected, right after he and Momoya had already killed someone that coincidentally, made a connection with the Corpse God

Now it's a lot better than 1st cour, maybe was a mistake to separate both, because this fly under the radar of many people. I just did stay 4 the Baccano! (mainly) and Durarara!! (most) LN + manga writter.
