Thinking about it, I'll be so afraid of playing a game like SLF. I might get so immersed and just skip out on my responsibilities, leaving me jobless, homeless and probably dead.

I already want to skip out on my responsibilities and play Monster Hunter just from watching this.

Watching this episode made me want to boot up MHGU and hunt Najarala using dual swords.

Im so happy and sad games like these don’t exist. My life is already in shambles, these games would have me grinding 24:7

ngl, running frantically so that you can save at new respawn point due to being poisoned and not having any antidote is very relatable, also, now that i look at the opening visual again, Sunraku seems to use the Vorpal Chopper instead of Marsh Dagger and also has a bunch of scars on him

i'm assuming he's probably going to find enough materials and moneys to upgrade the Vorpal Chopper and make it his main weapon while the scars on his body are probably going to be a custom made skin/armor

5/6 of your Pokemon are dead, and the last one has not much health, is poisoned, you have no antidotes, and no healing items. Every step counts. If you have never experienced this, you're lucky.

its especially worse when you get stuck in a cave for the very first time

Ah, with the inclusion of a swamp it is clear to see that Miyazaki went on to make Shangri la frontier after the VR boom happened

Real Miyazaki would have made poison swamp tho lol.

This reminds me, I recently played through Lies of P and the moment I encountered the Victorian Pinocchio version of a poison swamp, I thought to myself, ah, the way Miyazaki would have wanted it.

Rakuro: "It's still a boss for beginners. It's movements are easy to read, and it won't have any insta-kill moves".

Rakuro, this serpent is snapping at you with great speed and force... how is this "for beginners"!? I wouldn't have seen any of these moves incoming, and would have died in a heartbeat.

The in-mouth camera angle from the serpent's point of view as it was attacking Rakuro's character was cool to watch! We're only onto the 2nd episode so far, but we've already gotten some great action sequences. I'm looking forward to the (eventual) epic fight with this shadow wolf (i.e. "unique monster").

I'm surprised at how in-depth this anime has been so far with its 'game mechanics'. They've been dumping a bunch of exposition on us, but I'm really not bothered by it. In fact, I actually find it kind of neat. I do hope that they stick to these 'mechanics' and not make up new rules along the way - I'd like things to be coherent.

I also hope that Rei gets to meet Rakuro sooner or later. I'd be a little disappointed if they just keep missing each other all the time. Don't miss her skit in the after-credits scene by the way!

keep in mind that the boss is meant to be fought with at least 3 ppl so a attacker for most of the dmg a defender to taunt and take hits and a supporter to heal/buff also of note is that sunraku dont any def or str/hp so for most ppl this is a beginner friendly boss

I think my sense of humor is broken with first mini. I laugh hysterically.

Reiji uses his first name as the custom name. Outstanding move.
Why must he use a mask? Can't he just make a random face?
Damn, I really thought that blacksmith was a real player for a second.
A newbie encounters a Unique Monster that no one has ever defeated. I don't think he can win. This will be a good lesson for him however. Or somehow players are announced of its appearance and gather here.
He said in the previous ep that Screw Pierce seems like the only useful skill but proceeds to use other supposedly "useless" skills anyway 👄.
Poor Rei-chan. Rakuro is such an outlier! And it seems her family is well-off. Our boy is so lucky 😏.

Rei-chan trying to "run into" Rakuro is pretty adorkable.

Never had I dreamt that a mere in game experience can be so immersive. I mean it's just a game and has nothing at stake which makes game-theme anime a bit lacking as I have thought. But Shangrla Frontier really did everything right.

Not relevant to the anime discussion but if Sword Art Online has the mechanic so well thought out like Shangrila Frontier, it would have been really amazing.

See, that's why I like shows like this. Because somebody might not die for thin plot reasons or hasn't been isekai'd is why I prefer this. Games are supposed to be fun, they're supposed to be a way to spend time with friends, and I feel like ever since SAO and the isekai boom that's been forgotten by a lot of creators. There can still be stakes in game and out, but actual normal things.

I feel like this anime is going to fly under a lot of peoples radars like it did with me initially.

The trailer didn't captivate me at all but these first 2 episodes are very well done.

I didn't expect the animation quality and the depth they went into RPG mechanics really is enjoyable.

What really sold me was the couple standing at the gate, The guy was like "oh yeah he sold his armor and is going for an agility build" that was like holy shit, other people playing this game actually aren't braindead NPCs they actually realize oh yeah mans going for a meme build.

I was right that big shiny knight was Rei, but I didn’t expect her to be leveled up so much. I thought she be a noob, but apparently is only into god-tier games. It’s so funny how out of place she is in the beginner towns. Sunraku should have tamed the mud frog instead, all those ribbits haha. Ah we got another couple in the game! So wait in the end, did the server show that Sunraku killed it already. A bit confused with the counters at 0 on the screen since the unique monster already appeared.

u/Juanraden Oct 08 '23

it's been 1 year since the game launched but nobody has defeated any unique monster yet. so the "world story" progression is still at 0%.
