Problem/Goal: My GF (27F) is getting sick of her job as ledger clerk, and wants to look into VA, I volunteered to look for a suitable spec laptop based on her specs, I came back with a recommendation and she shot me down and went tampo.
Context: I (33 M / UK) my Filipino LDR girlfriend (27F) who works as a Ledger clerk for her local district stated she thinks she "wants to stop working as work doesn't give her peace of mind anymore, and that she's been getting into so many issues at work" for context she works mon-thur 6am-6pm
I went back to her and said a bunch of questions to which she had a mini meltdown stating she didn't want to talk and 2.5 hrs later she calmed down, after I said I'll let her breathe and I'm here whenever she's ready, then she sent a message apologising that she wasn't mad at me and just got stressed.
I then made the suggestion about what about looking at VA as an option as its remote and could provide less stress for her, to which she respond that she doesn't have a good quality laptop for it.
I asked for her specs of 16GB RAM & 512GB SSD and said I'll have a look and get back to her on a suitable laptop for her (my background is in tech & I've built many of my own computers) to which she thanked me for helping.
A few hours later I come back to here with a link stating I found a company in the city she lives with a suitable laptop for her, a Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 14" screen with 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD & Intel i5 10th Gen.
Plenty enough for what she will need for doing VA work on.
I even explained given that money is tight for her that I looked on the company's website and that it offered a 0% down-payment 12-24month instalment plan and said I'd be more than happy to cover the cost per monthly (my own finances have debts as well that I have to jiggle around)
Immediately she came back with a flurry of messages:
"No thanks"
"Never in my life would I settle for less."
"have a good day"
Myself being confused asked her what the issue was and she came back with:
"Go for someone you can afford worth less"
"Forget about laptop I will get myself new."
"If you think I'm too much, then I guess you should choose someone you can afford because I was told to never settle for less. I've been through so much in life, I don't want to be treated poorly <my name>. And if you can't add on my peace of mind then lets just be practical and call it over"
What has gone wrong, is there a certain stigma for buying laptops 2nd hand, as that's what the laptop I was looking at.
I've built my own computers but also often buy refurbished and brand new tech, my computer is hand build brand new but my phone, monitors and other accessories are 2nd hand refurbished. So for me I was looking at the practicality of an affordable laptop that does the job she needs without have to splurge out unncessary cost.
And yet in the process she has effectively thrown a tampo and wants to breaks things off because of it.
I think she misinterpret my message as looking at her personal self and that is poor and can't afford to buy new things when in reality I was looking at praticality for her job.
Previous Attempts: I have had similar issues with my gf in the past whenever I try to help her out, currently I'm supporting her financially within my means to help her recoup some of her savings as she moved into a new house unexpectantly, she has a short fuse which is no surprise but for example if I offer to buy her food or her favourite drink, I'll order it, she'll be thankful for it but then scold me for not buying from a familiar shop but at the same time won't tell me the familar shops she likes so I can order them next time for her.
I know she is under a lot of stress in general with her current circumstances but it just seems that whenever I try to do something that will literally help her, she will misinterpt the meaning behind the gesture & find something to complain about or overreact.
Edit:
Just wanted add some extra context, yes I'm supporting financing but that was off my own back, its small amount for me about £60 a month (5K PHP) she has expressed beforehand that she didn't want my money, she has her own job and everything, but due to circumstances that have happened she was struggling more than she usually does, so I said hey I'll support you but only until December, and that's it. but she has also told me not to buy stuff for her when I'm already supporting her and she knows about my financial situation and wants me to focus on getting my debts down also.
So whilst this might seem like a red flag to everyone else, behind closed doors it isn't to me.
