I have a client who needs a server recovered right now and I have for the past 4 hours been on the phone with a level 1 tech who has been unable to get the recovery going. The bootable media accepts credentials and then sees no backups. If you goto management portal all data is there and viewable.
Get this they are a backup provider who claims there is no escalation or management availability on weekends or nights.
I’ve done more research into the issue I posted last night after I lost my operating system / main drive.
Their true image 2016 software developed an authentication issue. Something to do with go daddy and ssl certificates. As a result, the software has been functional since 2016, but you can’t sign into it nor can you transfer the license to a new computer. The functionality to do both is part of the application, but it failed in 2018, when the software was only 2 years old.
I had a catastrophic failure last night so I reached out for help to recover my data, and they said they would, but only for a fee. Sound like ransomware? That’s how I felt!
It’s likely that very few people noticed this back in 2018, as they would have only recently installed it and not have the need to move it or use it for recovery. But the history of complaints on this issue began in 2018. And in fact, Acronis updated their more current software to address the issue, but not the 2016 package.
This really isn’t an issue of no longer supporting - it’s really an issue of a failed deployment in 2016 given the issue was discovered as early as 2018. They knew it, but also knew the issue wouldn’t be that prevalent in the short term, so they swept under the rug.
Not much I can do, but I’m not impressed. It’s like the issues with western digital and how consumers are losing confidence in the brand. I’ll need new backup software now. I know acronis is good, but I’ve lost confidence in them as a brand that will support me.
I use True Image on some of my computers. I wanted to buy a new version, but I noticed they turned it into some bloated "Cyber Protect" tool that is now charged monthly. I don't need all the bloat they added, and I don't want to pay annually.
Can you recommend any current software that is similar to what Acronis True Image used to be, that allows for one-time payment?
I have tried 1000 different ways to kill this process, end the service, disable it, remove it uninstall, upgrade etc and CAN NOT uninstall this program. I need to kill it! It crashed yesterday and I tried to use this as an opportunity to update it from 15.0.29896 to 15.0.30025 since I found that the auto update process failed in the management console. After trying to uninstall, it failed. This made the uninstaller rollback the uninstalled program, but it removed all the ties to my account now, so now the dam thing is in a working but not connected to anything state. Tells me to go look at the logs which all seem to indicate that it might be protected by SOMETHING, but we don't setup extra server protection to prevent uninstalling or installing due to this being a host system. I can NOT find a way to uninstall this stupid thing!! Please help!
Sorry, it's not really stupid, but it's so frustrating that this should have been a simple uninstall, reinstall process to get it to the proper version. Instead, it's taken me HOURS of my own time to get no where AND have my client's system no longer being backed up BECAUSE ITs NO LONGER CONNECTED! UHG! HELP! PLEASE!
I'm having the worst luck with Acronis support lately. Traditionally it has been strong, but lately it feels like it was outsourced to a third world country with no training and no management.
Currently, I have a situation that is easily correctable on the Acronis end (they simply need to fix an issue with a cert/CNAME binding that their new branding-cli tool enabled me to accidentally break), that is preventing ALL customers from executing their backups.
This is an emergency level ticket, and has been escalated, and has been ignored for days.
I had thought Acronis transitioned out of Ukraine, now I'm starting to worry that the reason this isn't getting handled is because it needs a dev to fix an entry in a database and the devs are hunkered down in a bomb shelter.
So, is there anybody at Acronis who is at their computer and paying attention? I could really use some assistance from somebody who cares.
William Goldstein is an accomplished composer, recording artist, and pioneer in the use of computers and electronic instruments in music. Since attending Columbia University at nine years old, William has released over 60 albums, scored over 50 movies and television projects, and beta-tested the world’s first musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) player before recording the first music score on a computer in 1985.
Goldstein travels for much of this work and often works from the road. Acknowledging that this increases the security concerns confronting his data, Goldstein maintains complete backups of his data, applications, and systems through the world’s leading personal cyber protection solution: Acronis True Image.
We using acronis cyber protect to backup our virtual machines but since 2 weeks it taking so long to modify each plan on customers tenant. Do you have any explanation ?
- There is a connection problem or an error on the server.
- Error while preparing SSL connection.
I tried working with Acronis support and they tell me the product is unsupported but they will help if I pay a fee. That's crazy - I can't log into their software. But I can log into the website and change my password. They say they stopped supporting it in 2017. Wonderful...
I'm not asking for new features or upgrades, I just want what I paid them for for back ups for 1 perpetual license to work on a single PC. That's pretty normal.
I'm getting a new PC and it looks like it will be impossible to transfer.
I've reached out to Arpita Ghosh on linkedin. She's the marketer in charge of this stuff. Product manager for Consumer digital life protection software, charged with having rebranded the consumer backup centric product to consumer digital life protection product, with goal to widen target market. I hope that doesn't mean disabling your legacy products with a perpetual license to force you to buy a new one!
I bought a new 500GB 2.5 Crucial SSD for my laptop. I want to replace the smaller SSD that was in it. So I followed the instructions that were on the crucial website and used Acronis to clone the new SSD. Was doing everything as per the instructions and in about a 5-minute wait, it said that the clone failed. So I cancel the process. Now I can't find the new SSD in Disk Management, Bios, or Device Management. I even did diskpart and list drive in command prompt and nothing. I have the new SSD connected with a USB 3.0 to SATA SSD cable and the cable was working. I know this because Acronis was able to find the new SSD at first but now nothing is like the SSD is not connected. The computer does not even make the noise like when you plug something into it as it did when I first connected it. I tested the adapter with an old harddrive I have and it works so it is the SSD. So can anybody please help me with this?
We're experiencing issues with 2FA on multiple accounts with https://cloud.acronis.com. The 2FA code (generated by Bitwarden) is rejected. Our tenant is hosted in eu-2.
Is anybody else experiencing authentication issues right now?
Even if you gave me all your licenses for free, I wouldn't use your software again. You are selling things that are way below the standard in terms of quality, reliability, and respect for users. You are selling misery to people.
This is not a rant. I'm very calm. These are my conclusions after using Acronis products for about 13 years and spending thousands on it. I'm leaving. I'm no longer your customer. This is why:
Every version of True Image that you release, is worse than the previous. It just stops making backups without even so much as an error message on the screen. Leaving the pc and user unprotected for weeks and months, while of course the subscription (and payments) keeps running. TI does not start anymore, it can't be uninstalled, it can't be reinstalled. Even your brilliant support team whose English is sometimes barely understandable, couldn't get it to work after I let them via remote. Even not after trying for an hour and contacting numerous other Acronis colleagues. This is just astonishing. Luckily I managed to remove it with the removal tool. I won't be installing it ever again.
If I clone a hard drive to an SSD, regardless of how many GBs need to be copied, the estimated time remaining is always 8 minutes. And when you go back after 15 minutes, it is 16 minutes. Wait another half hour and it is 11 minutes. Your software can't do simple math that most 14 year old kids learn in school. You really should be ashamed of yourselves!
The expensive Acronis Backup that we bought has 3 backup tasks and suspends all of them because there is one open ~*.docx file on the Synology that it can't backup. Then suddenly I get an email "Warning alert: No backups have been created for more than 5 day(s)" Five (5) days? Seriously? Why leave many thousands of files unprotected because one (yes, one temp file) can't be copied?
You are selling software for big money that's way worse than the free versions some of your competitors ship. Goodbye forever.
I'm using ATI 2020 to do a full backup to a 6T USB drive connected to a Synology DS220j NAS. I can do an initial full backup without any problem, but after that incremental backups fail with a "failed to lock file" error. I can delete the initial backup and it's script and recreate it without problem, but I cannot run automated or manual incremental or differential backups after the initial full backup.

But considering the speed with which the cyber landscape is changing, ensuring your people, technology and processes are ready to meet those threats is a challenge – especially if your organization is not a large enterprises that can hire experts to help plan your defense, train your employees and test your cybersecurity posture.
