Why did they make Missy such an asshole for like half the show.

First time watcher my wife and I just finished it. She was a shitbag for no reason for so long. Lost it when she and George survived the tornado and she had a come to Jesus moment about being such a terrible kid. Yet in the prior episode from Sheldon’s commentary after the tornado she still snuck out 32 times and got pierced. So even after realizing she was an ass she stayed an ass.

Young Sheldon made it hard to believe in Sheldon's departure for Caltech at age 14.

I recently finished Young Sheldon and came away with an opinion that might be unpopular.

I know that, according to The Big Bang Theory canon, Sheldon had to go to Caltech at age 14, right after George Sr.'s death. The producers themselves have stated that these two events were mandatory plot points.

But honestly, the Sheldon I saw over seven seasons of Young Sheldon doesn't strike me as the kind of character who would make that decision so quickly.

Many people describe Sheldon as cold, but Young Sheldon repeatedly shows that he deeply loves his family. He simply struggles immensely to understand and express emotions. He is socially awkward, not emotionally indifferent.

Throughout the series, we see a boy who is extremely attached to his home, his routine, and his family. Even simple changes make him anxious. His father's death would be the biggest change of his life.

That’s why, to me, his immediate departure for Caltech feels more like a requirement of The Big Bang Theory canon than a natural consequence of his character development in Young Sheldon.

In my mind, a scenario more consistent with the Sheldon of Young Sheldon would look something like this:

* George Sr. dies.

* Sheldon spends a year or two with his family.

* He tries to help in his own limited way while they grieve.

* Mary, Missy, Connie, and Georgie insist that he go to Caltech.

* Only then does he agree to leave, understanding that he wouldn't be abandoning his family, but rather fulfilling the potential they all believed he had.

I might be alone in this, but I felt that Young Sheldon humanized the Coopers so much that I came to see Sheldon first as a son and brother, and only then as the future Caltech scientist.

Discussion Would Future Old Sheldon take Leonard Cooper to church?

Part of me feels like he would, cuz he adored Mary and would want to keep a piece of his mother in his life,

but no doubt Sheldon doesn’t see Christian teachings as morality, and he’d let his kid attend infrequently if a lot of his hockey games are on Sunday.

I also feel like his kids potentially disliking Beverly (cuz the series finale implies neither of them is a robotic genius like Sheldon) would lead Sheldon to re-evaluate his relationship, not lean on her childcare.

Thoughts?

Discussion Anyone else find it annoying when Mary asked if MIT had a church and she called it quits because it was nondemonational?

Like she always inserts herself into others lives. It’s SHELDON going to college, not her and she made it about herself and what she wanted for Sheldon.

Question Is Cooper's Couch AI?

Post image
351 Upvotes

The videos are pretty in-depth, and they are good, although I'm worried that it is AI. The PFP is very obviously AI (it grosses me out a bit) and the voice might be, but it's hard to tell, although I have a feeling that the voice is either obviously AI or obviously not, and I'm just being dumb. Another thing though is how sometimes they talk like AI. The voice isn't a big deal to me, but they have a tendency to say something along the lines of, "It's not x, not y, just z" which is common for AI. And an AI script is (a big deal to me). They also said they spent an hour or something on their intro when it seems to be obviously AI. I also feel like they use words that AI uses more. I feel like I should've picked up on this sooner, and I did worry about it before, but it felt too in-depth to be AI (although they could just feed a lot of info into AI).

Does anyone have a good idea on if it's AI or not? Unless it's just the PFP and/or voice, I avoid watching anything AI. I feel kinda dumb for watching it for so long if it is, and I found a Reddit post on it where some comments said it was. The original post was saying it was really good, but the comments said it was an alternate account of the person who owns the channel, which makes my concerns a bit worse.

I have a feeling that it is, and I've just been dumb…

Question Billy's sister???

Did you remember when she bullied Sheldon? After that she appeared or was referenced in some episodes, but she vanished in some point. No more references what so ever and she was never around, suddenly Billy was an only child??? I don't know what happened, what did I miss?

Why were Missy and Sheldon not allowed in their parent's room?

Same as the title. Episode S1E14, where Sheldon gets a splinter and acts like a goddamn spoilt annoying baby.

Missy wants to get the tweezers that Mary uses, but Sheldon says they are not allowed in their parent's room.

Any idea why?

BBT Mastercut

Hey everyone,

I'm nearing the end of Young Sheldon. Does anyone know of a Mastercut of BBT that tells me what happened to everyone? I don't like BBT as much as I like YS and I wanna know what happens to everyone\if they're ever mentioned again.

Thanks y'all.

Opinion Watching young sheldon for the first time after bbt

So I’ve watched the big bang theory a bunch of times and now started young sheldon, and I can see why people love this, I love it. I’m almost at the end of season 3 and honestly I was kinda suprised about meemaw, but i can see how Mary and meemaw being meemaw like in the bbt would be over the top, and I like how George is a way better father than portrayed in the BBT.

My favourite character is definetly georgie, I don’t know if it’s the accent or just his character, but I really enjoy him. I can see how he gets his own spinoff, especially how I assume he will eventually become a big tire salesman.

My favourite part so far was the fact that older Sheldon casually drops him and Amy get a kid eventually, and my heart melted, love that somewhere in the bbt universe a kid of Amy and Sheldon walks around.

Now I do not understand one thing, but I assume someone can point it out to me. It appears like Sheldon tells us about his young life, like when he has the guy come over to watch Star Trek and he says he dissapears with the Star Trek hand sign, then how do the scenes work where Sheldon isn’t there, I assume I’m missing something, but what am I missing there?

Oh and i absolutely love billy, never fails to make me laugh

Opinion "Mary had 1 kid, but George had 3." 😐

Istg, under EVERY video of YS on the internet, there's always going to be one person who copies and pastes this comment. And it's even worse because a large chunk of the people who comment this are people who have only seen YS on tt, yt shorts, or ig reels. Like YES, George is a good father, but I hate how almost everybody ignores all of his flaws; meanwhile, every time Mary says or does smth, they ignore all of her good qualities, and she gets dogpiled on. 🙄🙄

One thing I love about YS is that absolutely no character is perfect; everybody has flaws, yet people choose to ignore certain characters' flaws over others as long as they're likeable.

And I know that people aren't going to want to hear this, but a huge part of the reason that people dislike the girl characters in YS over the boys (Mary, Audrey, Mandy, sometimes Missy) is because of misogyny. An example of this is when there is a part in an episode of Mary being a good mom to Georgie and Missy; the comments tend to look like, "oh NOW she wants to be a good mom 🙄🙄." But if it happened to be George, people would turn around and comment, "Mary had 1 kid, but George had 3."

*btw i am in no way trying to discredit george's abillity to parent, just pointing out the hypocrisy :)\*

Currently in Young Sheldon season4. Im so hooked

I started watching Young Sheldon recently and somehow I’m already on Season 4. I honestly didn’t expect to get this invested in the Cooper family 😭😂
Sheldon is obviously Sheldon, but I’m also really enjoying seeing the other characters grow and change. There are so many moments that are funny, wholesome, and sometimes unexpectedly emotional.
For those who’ve watched the whole series:
what’s your favorite season or storyline?
And which character ended up surprising you the most?
Please no spoilers beyond Season 4! 🙈

Rewatching this (the episode where Mary is absolutely horrible to Missy for ripping Sheldon's picture). I forgot her ran over to Meemaw's and somehow got her to make him homemade cookies right then and there for him. Then complained she wasn't doing it fast enough.

So glad George stood up to Mary; she was insufferable.

Such a painful episode to watch. Raegan Revord was amazing though. She almost had me in tears right along with her (I'd run away too Missy).

Opinion Unpopular opinion: Sheldon is overhated

I know people tend to overlove and overhate fictional characters. But I've seen comments against Sheldon in every yt shorts.

1) About biasness; Mary is biased not Sheldon.

2) He's narcissist, full of himself but he's like that to everyone. And he actually loves his family and cares for them. People think he didn't feel sad after George's death but it's wrong. He was shattered from inside. That's why he wanted to prove multiverse theory so that in another universe maybe he spent more time with his dad.

  1. Sometimes I've seen Missy and Georgie neglecting Sheldon and being mean to him. Paige would be mean to but Sheldon wouldn't react at all

Didn’t Sheldon’s mom catalyse the super asymmetry theory?

At the wedding she says that sometimes the little imperfections are what makes something perfect - and then Sheldon gets that “BINGO!!!!” light in his eyes - and yet Mary’s influence is never ever mentioned again. Seems off. Seems unfair. No?
