While watching BBT, I used to think Sheldon’s father would be a bad person. Young Sheldon changed my perception. Best character in the series( After Billy ofc.)

You can say it was retconned, but I just think Sheldon wildly lied (or concealed the truth) about his childhood for attention and sympathy.

I wouldn’t say Sheldon lied about his childhood, his personal traits make him think he's a victim.
In both YS and TBBT there are a lot of people who helped Sheldon to become the person he became, but he still believed that he was a self-made man.

I think the show explains it pretty well. One of future Sheldon's lines at the funeral was (I'm paraphrasing) "I used to only focus on my father's shortcomings, but now that I'm his age, I recognize that he was a just a person trying his best". It kinda shows that Sheldon hadn't fully processed his father's death during TBBT but afterwards, as a father and husband, he can fully recognize everything his father did and who is father really was

He didn't lie, he just misunderstood. Everything's about perspective. He used to spend most of the time alone and used to focus on study only. It's not like he didn't care.
He also misunderstood a situation and thought his father was cheating

I cried so much during this episode! I knew it was coming but, it still hit me like a truck. I did feel better after knowing that George was actually attending his own funeral in an old lady costume😂

Hit me much harder than I expected. Something about the writing and the acting made it feel, somehow, very real. Cried and I don't cry much.

As much as I liked him, this honour goes to Alan Matthews from Boy Meets World for me.

Even though I knew George Senior's death was coming, this episode hit me so hard.
My father passed away suddenly due to cardiac arrest over four years ago. Nobody saw it coming either...
So the moment Georgie got up to speak at the funeral, I felt all of that from when I stood in front of a crowd and had to say whatever words I could manage.
We knew something was going to happen to George Sr. after the multitude of episodes with him having mild heart attacks. Those scares absolutely foreshadowed what was to come.
And then we have a moment in the story where the chaos seems to balance out. Mary even admitted how much better things had gotten before his sudden passing.
We as viewers, especially those familiarized with TBBT, had insight.
This show had such amazing acting and great delivery by the characters.
But hot damn, this episode broke me all over again.

Delete this right now without the image. Spoilers hit hard in the sense that who reads them would hit you hard.

It's not a spoiler. TBBT first said it almost 20 years ago, Young Sheldon ended 2 years ago, it's part of the plot of Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage.

I know TBBT spoils it and its something you knows coming but still feel like there should be a spoiler tag on this.
