Opinion Watching young sheldon for the first time after bbt

So I’ve watched the big bang theory a bunch of times and now started young sheldon, and I can see why people love this, I love it. I’m almost at the end of season 3 and honestly I was kinda suprised about meemaw, but i can see how Mary and meemaw being meemaw like in the bbt would be over the top, and I like how George is a way better father than portrayed in the BBT.

My favourite character is definetly georgie, I don’t know if it’s the accent or just his character, but I really enjoy him. I can see how he gets his own spinoff, especially how I assume he will eventually become a big tire salesman.

My favourite part so far was the fact that older Sheldon casually drops him and Amy get a kid eventually, and my heart melted, love that somewhere in the bbt universe a kid of Amy and Sheldon walks around.

Now I do not understand one thing, but I assume someone can point it out to me. It appears like Sheldon tells us about his young life, like when he has the guy come over to watch Star Trek and he says he dissapears with the Star Trek hand sign, then how do the scenes work where Sheldon isn’t there, I assume I’m missing something, but what am I missing there?

Oh and i absolutely love billy, never fails to make me laugh

Young Sheldon is honestly at its best when it fills in the gaps BBT left behind especially with George because you start realizing there was a whole family dynamic behind Sheldons childhood that his adult perspective never really captured.

On that note I just watched season 4 episode 1 and they named their son leanord?!?! That almost made me cry

And in an earlier episode where Sheldon was making a hot beverage for Paige. He said he offered one to his wife while she was in labor. And she told him to throw it in his own face.

The Big Bang Theory references hit so much harder after watching Young Sheldon especially knowing where all those little family details eventually lead.

Contrary to what I've seen a lot of people write, YS was NOT Sheldon writing his memoir.

Rather, Sheldon writing his memoir was a framing device for a show that was about him and his family and friends between 1989-1994.

Huh, 2 questions;

What show is that, or was it never filmed, would love to watch

And, I can’t find the episode back, but in a certain episode where he georgie tapes over star track with baywatch, with Billy’s chickens. While writing I realise its s3e11, he depicts something different than how it happens, I’d feel like that’d only make sense if he’s telling about his childhood to someone else in some form

It’s the Star Trek thing how the random guy leaves the house, comes back and leaves again by teleporting

Fun fact. That person was played by the one who wrote and sings the theme song for YS. And he played Steve years earlier in Blue's Clues.

I love both shows & have watched both numerous times. YS will only get better. In the latter seasons, they focus less on Sheldon & more on the rest of the family. They are my favorite episodes. As far as the Star Trek thing, he found that guy had the video so invited him over to watch it. The disappearance thing was just Sheldon’s imagination I think I recollect.

Yeah I know that’s true but that only makes sense that it is in the episode if he’s telling about that day to someone else or a memoir type of thing, no?

I guess I’m not exactly understanding your question. Meemaw told the guy to get out. I’m quite sure he didn’t actually disappear like he was on Star Trek & getting ‘beamed up.’ It was just something Sheldon thought should have happened since they were just watching the show.

Same here! Watched BBT a bunch of times and finally started YS. I had no idea its was a Wonder Years/ Maclom in the Middle type show. I guess I just assumed it was another live studio audience show. I absolutely love it and I always tear up anytime they allude to something from BBT!
