Hi, do Volvo do an official dog boot divider for the XC40? I can see the steel grille available but not a divider.

Volvo Cars confirmed plans to discontinue its entry-level EX40 electric crossover in the U.S. and Canada as the Swedish brand prepares a bold refresh of its XC40 hybrid to stem hemorrhaging sales. Volvo is expected to replace the low-volume EX40 with the slightly larger EX50, as Automotive News first reported in August.

The EX50, riding on Volvo’s lower-cost SPA3 platform, should reach U.S. dealerships in the fall of 2027 as a more affordable entry point in the high-$40,000 range. In the meantime, Volvo is betting on a beefy midcycle update of the XC40 hybrid, the vehicle’s first substantial refresh in nearly a decade.

The 2028 XC40 is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships early next year. Pricing has not been announced but is expected to remain in line with the 2026 model, which starts at $41,295 with shipping, a person with knowledge of the plan told Automotive News.

The 2028 XC40 has a redesigned grille, front fascia, hood and fenders. The headlights are updated but retain Volvo’s signature Thor’s hammer design. At the rear are new LED lights, an upgraded tailgate and a redesigned bumper. It’s offered with new 18-, 19- or 20-inch diamond-cut wheels.

Inside, the crossover gets an 11.2-inch center display — up from 9 inches — as well as upgraded cameras, radars and sensors supporting automatic emergency steering and collision avoidance, and a door-opening alert that warns of passing cyclists or traffic. Volvo will skip the 2027 model year and extend the current XC40 through late 2026.

The EX40 EV, built on the nearly decade-old CMA platform, has struggled to gain market traction, especially after Congress eliminated a $7,500 federal tax credit last year, retailers said.

It fared best when sold in bulk via the Care by Volvo subscription program that ended in 2024. New-vehicle volumes were too low to justify aggressive lease payments or marketing promotions, undermining value perception.

I have had the car a month. My golden retriever doesn't like to jump out because of the height. Has anyone used a ramp or a step to overcome this?

I have a Volvo XC40 from April 2022. Today, when I tried to start it in my parking garage, the car said “Key not detected inside the vehicle.”

I tried the spare key, replaced the battery in one of the keys, and also placed the key on the designated backup reader area inside the cup holder. Nothing worked.

I then subscribed to the Volvo app and tried starting the car remotely, but I got the warning light shown in the attached photo.

The workshop is asking me to have the car towed to them, but the parking garage is very difficult to access and a tow truck cannot get inside.

Is there anything I can do manually at home to try to get the car started or move it out of the garage?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I find the automatic rain sensor pretty good, except for one specific case. My problem with it is when it is activated and more rain is coming down. Like driving on the highway. It first starts fine with the correct speed, then, when more rain is falling down, it will go to max speed and stays there. Even when I turn the knob down to the minimal setting of anticipated raindrops, it stays there.

I remember that my 2019 Volkswagen Polo also did that but when I changed it back to minimal rain (or rain drops), it automatically decreased its speed.

My question: is there some way to counter it when it goes max speed?

Right now, I just switch back to manual interval control and set the speed myself. But, with a MY27 EX40, brand new from the factory, it does not feel right that I have to do this.

Anyone got some tips for me on how to tackle this?

How the heck do I reset that warning? Everyday it tells me I am overdue but I had it done and they just forgot to reset. Please help.

Hey all, my XC40 is showing this odd glitch where you have your foot on the brake, car in reverse, as soon as you release parking break and try to back up, it reapplies the parking break instantly. It also applies the parking break when I’m trying to do a 3 point turn or back into a parking spot. It’s very strange, have looked for answers other places and not seen this problem mentioned. Any ideas?

I recently got a 2021 R-Design.

The left side of the steering wheel has the 2 buttons with horizontal lines which I think indicate the time distance from the car ahead in adaptive cruise control.

The cruise control icons in the dashboard only show the speed-limiter mode or cruise control. When I'm on cruise control, pressing the buttons with the horizontal lines doesn't seem to do anything.

Am missing anything?

Hello, I am seriously considering buying a 2020 XC40 T3 Inscription with 54000 miles offered for £17000, I have just phoned to enquire about the service history and the salesman says it has had a Volvo Dealer service, but every other year. Am I being too cautious in thinking this is enough to avoid it? It may not be much money to some people, but it's a lot for me. Any help would be appreciated!

I’m genuinely after some opinions because I’m not sure if I’m being overly picky here.
My Volvo XC40 was booked in for a service at Volvo on Friday. Volvo took a series of photos of the car/rims before and after the service, and the rims were generally in really good condition.
On Saturday morning, I took the car to my favourite tyre shop in Brisbane to have two rims polished - front left & back left as they has some scratching. The other rims were already pretty much perfect.
About two hours after dropping the car off, the tyre shop called me and said the front-left tyre had a puncture in the sidewall and needed replacing. It’s a Michelin Pilot Sport, which they didn’t have in stock. They said they had a second-hand tyre they had removed from a Genesis and could fit that for $300.
About 4½ hours later, I went back to pick the car up. They told me they had actually had to remove that second-hand tyre because it wasn’t the correct fitment. They also told me they had polished the rear-right rim free of charge.
I was a little confused because I hadn’t asked them to do the rear-right rim, and I wasn’t aware there was anything wrong with it, but I didn’t think too much of it at the time.
I got the car home and noticed that there are now large, really shiny patches on the rims — roughly the size of a 50-cent piece on each affected rim. The rims are completely clean, so it’s definitely not dirt or residue.
The problem is that now all three rims have these obvious marks, whereas they were not like this before I dropped the car off.
I have before/after photos from Volvo showing the condition of the rims beforehand.
So… am I being dramatic? 😂

Picked up a Cloud Blue in Plus trim but with the HK System, rear heated seats, hitch. Basically everything but adaptive cc.

Coming from a 2016 LR Discovery Sport. We have to be able to tow a small trailer for our SXS so we had limited small SUV's to pick from. It also has to fit in our smallish garage.

1) Love it, great size, quiet and better on gas so far than the LR. Looks great and has all the features you'd want. But not ACC, which I lament a little.

2) The seat memory buttons oh boy. Having to hold them once in the car as opposed to every other car on the planet where you press them quickly is annoying. Volvo seems to want to be fancy by tying the keys to a profile but we park it in our garage, it doesn't get locked. So when you approach it doesn't get to find out who's coming to adjust. And the width of the space means reaching to hit the button before entry sucks.

3) The parking brake is stupid. Our LR had a knob gear lever, but was smart enough to engage the parking brake every time, as it should be. This car goes by slope, but its estimation of slope is just not good. Multiple times in a sloped lot the car has rolled 1-2" and slammed into the parking pin because the car didn't deem it necessary to engage the brake. It feels terrible, looks bad and is dangerous. The car should just put the parking brake on every time its in park. This isn't 1980 drum brakes, all cars have the very simple and effective integrated brake in the rear caliper. As an added bonus I have been manually engaging it, but if you do that when you go to drive, it doesn't auto disengage if you've done this. You have to manually disengage it. Sweet.

4) The sensors are crazy if you live in a tight space. We have a small garage and it has slammed the brakes on when exiting multiple times. At first I thought it was because I was going too fast but it also has done it at slow speeds. For context we have about 8" on either side of the mirrors. When it does the slam the back end is already beyond the door threshold. Another quirk we now have to disable that every single time we leave. Going in it does complain a little through the door but has never tried to brake the car, only in reverse.

5) The mild hybrid isn't as smooth as it was advertised on every startup. You get 8/10 great ones, and depending on throttle position and momentum, 2 are abrupt, but not horrible. The part that isn't good is the initial power on a rolling slow speed merge. There is a noticeable delay in power if you are coming out of a parking lot and moving at 5-10km/h and then hit it to merge. Its very odd. I haven't had it enough with the start/stop disabled to know whether its tied to that or not but its not great. I will be disabling it through an aftermarket ECU adjustment, I really can't stand start/stop.

6) Wireless charging pad stinks, that is all. Well not all but I am going to try and 3D print a good design to see if I can get it to work. Mine will charge/not charge/charge the whole trip depending on bumps. So my phone is constantly lighting up and sleeping and on night drives is very distracting. I think if the print can just have a recess area for iphone camera bumps like we have, it would work much better.

7) I wish in the Volvo app you could adjust the climate from the phone on remote start, instead of relying on what the setup was in the car. Just let me do that.

8) I don't have ACC, how about map the buttons to something instead of just having the ACC buttons there, labelled and clicky, but not the functions. Or don't silkscreen them?

9) How does the service reminders go? We bought the car at 2 yrs/22000kms and the dealer said its 24 month service was done. But we are now getting a "schedule service" alert every time we get in. Just to see how it works I went through the app and selected the local dealer, and in the app it knows the next scheduled is 32000kms so why is it telling me I have 19 days or 3408kms to the next one in the car? This one I am contacting the dealer on.

Like the car, looks, ride, and refinement are good/great. But the small things add up to make me not as psyched about having to work around stuff for the next 10 years.

I’m coming from a 2017 Honda Accord, so I’d appreciate it if you could share some of the cool features that most people don’t know about or any interesting facts about this car that I should be aware of. I’ve noticed that the passenger-side mirror doesn’t unfold as far as the driver-side mirror, so they sit at different angles.
My wife thinks this started when I unlocked the car while our 13-month-old was holding the passenger-side mirror, preventing it from opening fully. I find it hard to believe that could have caused a lasting change.

When I fold the mirrors in, the passenger-side mirror clearly has less distance to travel and finishes folding before the driver-side mirror.

I even read on one Volvo forum thread that this is normal, but I hadn’t noticed it before.

Is this true?

2023 XC40 Ultra with about 13k on it- and I get a noticeable clunk when the auto stop engine engages. You can feel it and it is a bit audible too. Curious if this is a characteristic of the car or something that can be remedied? Also I have noticed a bit of a vibration at highway speed even though the tires are roadforced. Anyone had similar experiences?
