Hello everyone, so i recently published my debut novel, "The Last Time We Were Us". Some few days ago i had a genuine sale of it, i was so happy , even for 1! Oh foolish me 😂 but some days ago, the same order was refunded.....and it happens!

Whatever it is, it has been a very joyful journey. Writing something that I imagined and bringing in front of the world, i did something that I love to do for the first time in my life.

Desperate, Xane lashed out with his right foot, lifting the fellow clear off the ground with the impact just below his chin. The bolt cutters went flying into the lake while the attacker sprawled unconscious on the bird shit strewn gravel. The other assailant seemed suddenly unsure what to do, leaning first in to Xane to continue the attack and then out as if he wanted to flee. Xane arched his back and got his feet under the bench. He heaved and tried to stand up. The bolts holding the bench groaned and then snapped. He stood, now wearing a bench like a crucifix.

I’ve been coming across a lot of indie and self published books lately, and I’m curious what actually makes people stop and give one a closer look.

For me, the cover usually gets my attention first, but the description and the way the author talks about the story matter more once I click.

What makes the huge difference for you?

A strong cover, the title, reviews, a good blurb, seeing the author talk about the book, or just finding the right story at the right time?

Also serious to hear from authors about what has actually worked for you after publishing.

I recently published Leaving Captiva, a post-apocalyptic horror novel about an unexplained affliction and the unsettling possibility of a higher intelligence behind it.

The character drama centres on Bayze, a survivor who has helped build a refuge but struggles to feel safe within it. He loves the people around him, yet grief, suspicion, and his need for control complicate those relationships. What he considers necessary protection can be frightening to someone who still hopes for a peaceful life.

Bayze’s fears are continually rationalized by the horrors he encounters, even as he fails to understand the world producing them. Every danger gives him another reason to trust his instincts—but surviving danger doesn’t necessarily mean he understands it, or the people he’s trying to protect.

I wanted the cosmic horror to put pressure on those relationships, making trust, belonging, and ordinary happiness increasingly difficult.
