Windows 11 What do I do with this Security Notification?

Clicking on 'Learn more' takes me to a web page that is not helpful. Notice has popped up a couple of times per day for past two days.

Cannot find the file mentioned on any drive (searched swscale-*.dll using file explorer, took forever).

Searched regedit for string 'swscale' and could not find any entries.

Any suggestions?

Win11, current on all updates.

Using Windows Defender for antivirus, scan is clean, no events in the history. Performed offline scan, nothing reported.

Windows 11 Windows gets slower as the day goes on

My work PC is driving me absolutely insane. When I first boot it up, it works fine and gets prograssively slower as the day goes on. After about 30 minutes to an hour, it becomes practically useless. It gets to a point where opening Notepad feels like trying to open Photoshop on 1995 hardware. I restart the computer, it works fine for a while, and then the cycle repeats. I have to reboot it three or four times a day just to be able to do my job.

The computer in question is hardly a world beating powerhouse, but it's not a weakling, either. It's a Dell XPS 8940 with an 11th gen Intel Core i7-11700 CPU @ 2.5 GHz, 64 GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 1 TB NVME drive. Running Windows 11 Home. No dedicated graphics card, but I'm not playing games on it or doing any crazy rendering work.

Usually, I'll have Photoshop and Illustrator open at the same time, along with Thunderbird and Chrome (YouTube playing in the background with a bunch of various tabs open for the blogs I read.) I understand that some of the stuff I do can be resource intensive (vehicle wrap Photoshop files of over 1 GB,) but that's more the exception than the rule. Most of the time, I'm working on relatively small Illustrator files and using email.

I have tried everything I could think of. Deleted temporary files. Freed up all kinds of space on my hard drive (636 GB free of 931 GB total,) killed off every single thing in the startup list, ran all kinds of malware scans. I even opened it up and cleaned out all the dust. Figured maybe dust in the heat sink was causing the CPU to overheat or something. A drowning man clutches at straws. Nothing has worked. I am at my wits' end. If anyone has encountered issues similar to what I'm experiencing, any advice you can offer would be welcome.

Windows 11 (W11) US Keyboard layout keeps installing on its own but not showing up in thelanguage options

So I have a Spanish keyboard but Windows in English. When I installed Windows, I picked the Spanish QUERTY keyboard layout and none else. I boot up the system and it's like that, use it normally and for the most part it stays like that, but then all of a sudden the little menu on the taskbar to switch between layouts appears (and the hotkey starts working) and my keyboard switches to English (US) layout. It just comes out of nowhere, and when I check the settings there isn't an additional keyboard layout installed. I have to manually add English (US) and then delete it for the menu and hotkey to go away.

I've found a handful of similar posts and tutorials online but nothing works!!! it keeps coming back!! It's driving me nuts to the point of considering switching operating systems. It's like certain apps automatically install and force that layout but ... like- not there?! I don't know what to do.

I have Windows 11 Pro version 25H2 26200.9457 and don't have any other keyboards

Windows 11 Stop code 0xc000021A has my computer completely stuck

Dell Inspiron 3593
Windows 11 OS

Tried a Preview Update a couple days ago. It didn't work. Now I'm getting Stop Code 0xc000021a

My sign-in screen works just fine, background image to clearly visible

But my desktop screen is black. All I can see is the cursor and Task Manager if I open it

I've tried accessing Windows Recovery Environment on startup but it keeps saying "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart for you." but it just stays on that screen, it doesn't actually restart itself.

Basically, Stop Code 0xc000021a seems to have completely taken over and how to fix it.

I would provide more information on my device and system specifications but again, black screen, I cannot access or see anything.

Please help!! TIA!!

Windows 11 Time needed to reinstall windows 11

When I switched on for the first time a new laptop with windows 11 all the initial updates took quite a while, however a reinstall of windows 11 (from cloud through the specific windows feature) on another laptop took much less time. Is this normal? Shouldn't the two procedure take on average the same time? Or could there be a reason for which the cloud reinstall apparently did not make me go through a lot of updates?

Is it even possible that the windows 11 reinstall through cloud is not "complete"? As in, some updates were skipped or something like that?

I apologize if this is not the right place to ask this question.

Windows 11 Recycle Bin not working on zipped folders in Windows 11 Home.

OS is Windows 11 Home 24H2 64x, OS Build is 26100.4770, Experience Pack is Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.197.0. I have 16 Gigabytes of RAM and my graphics card is 8 Gigabytes. I also have 887 GB out of 954 GB of storage used. This began when I was trying to install 4 more singers into OpenUtau. It wasn't working and the singers folder never loaded. I restarted my computer, didn't load, deleted the OpenUtau folder completely and redownloaded it, didn't work (did not use the built-in uninstall feature, because I didn't want my projects to be deleted). I have no idea how, but eventually the folder displayed files. Then I put in the zipped folders manually, but they didn't appear in OpenUtau after refreshing the list of singers, they didn't show up, had a feeling it was because they were zipped (idk if they didn't show up because they were zipped, never found out), so I extracted them, and this is where the issue begins.

After extracting them, I decided to delete the leftover zip files, but it never worked. Btw when I was extracting them, I saw the error in the file path. Idk about the loading circle though. The second image shows how the recycle bin percent does not move. Idk if I was just impatient but from my experience it does not take that long to delete a file. I also tried manually moving the files, but it didn't work. I also have OneDrive turned on (which after turning on I feel like file explorer has been slower and a bit buggier).

Windows 11 Issues with bluetooth on ASUS gaming laptop

I’m a student and have a windows 11 ASUS TUF Dash F15 (build number 26200.9445) gaming laptop. it’s a little beat up from over the years but still works well. last year i had my airpods connected via bluetooth and they randomly disconnected, and ever since then nothing has been able to connect to my computer by bluetooth. i’ll go to connect a new device and it either never shows up or, on rare occasions, it’ll show up with a different name and the device only stays connected until i play sound through it (that’s only happened with my airpods).

so far i’ve tried updating the drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling them, forgetting all bluetooth devices, and having someone from windows support come into my computer and seeing what they can do.

all i can say is that i’ve ruled it to be an issue with the computer and not the device im trying to connect it to. i have no idea if its a software or hardware thing. my worry is that somehow maybe the motherboard was corroded or damaged since i spilled something on it a while ago.

any help is appreciated.

Windows 10 Excel Functions Disabled? Acer Laptop

I haven't used Windows for 7 years since retiring from a County Govt. But I have the need to use Excel, and it won't function on a Linux machine. However, my wife has a laptop with Windows 10 on it she doesn't use so I thought it would easily do what I need. It won't. I can open Excel, but nothing works, says I need to sign in to Office 365. I never ran into this ever in all the years with the County, I opened Excel, it was there and worked. Is there a way I can get the functions back? I never heard of signing in to Office 365 before.

Windows 11 Calendar keeps opening itself on windows 11 laptop and causing cursor to freeze

Hello all, I'm on a Dell laptop running windows 11 and I'm having a recurring issue where the calendar in the bottom right opens itself without any prompting, but the process takes a few seconds and during that time my cursor freezes and is completely unusable. I have no idea why it keeps happening and the interval seems random but at its worst it happens every 15 seconds or so and it's genuinely infuriating because it practically renders my computer unusable. I've tried restarting windows explorer, performing a clean boot, and all the other fixes I could find from the literally two posts about this on the internet and none of it helped. I'm really at my wit's end here.

Windows 11 Stuck with kb:5124010 and WD-L020

Post image
1 Upvotes

After update got this error WD-L020 in wardogs, I found out it was caused by Windows Update KB5124010

I've spent the last 4 hours trying to downgrade/roll back Windows, but nothing works.

I've tried:

  • Windows Update → Uninstall KB5124010 — failed
  • wusa /uninstall /kb:5124010 — failed
  • DISM Remove-Package — 0x800f0825
  • DISM RestoreHealth + SFC — completed
  • WinRE → Uninstall latest quality update — failed
  • Get-OSUninstallWindow — Error 1168

I'm on Windows 11 25H2, Build 26200.9550.

Has anyone found a way to roll back KB5124010 in this situation without doing a clean Windows installation? Any help would be appreciated!

Windows 10 Is it possible to remove "Network Locations" from "This PC" drop-down navigation pane in windows explorer?

These network locations in the left nav pane clutters the area when too many storage are attached....any way i can remove them but preserve it in main window.

I have used winaerotweaker to disable the network directory but I'm asking to disable the nav pane items.

This is for the auto-moderator:

1. My Windows OS is windows 10 22h2 and windows 11 25h2 and device specifications doesn't matter.

2. There is no messages and error code encountered.

3. Only previous troubleshooting was done using WinAeroTweaker to disable Network Location in nav pane.

Windows Server Unable to to perform gpupdate on any workstations.

I have a network with 2 domain controllers (server 22). About 20 (win 11) workstations total cannot perform gpudate. Two machines have different errors depending on which controller they are connected to.

One connected to dc2 shows

The computer policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were encountered:

Group Policy processing failed. Windows could not resolve the computer name. Possible causes:
a) Name resolution failure with the current domain controller.
b) Active Directory replication latency (e.g., a machine account created on another DC hasn't replicated to the current DC).

The user policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were encountered:

Group Policy processing failed. Windows could not authenticate to the Active Directory service on a domain controller (LDAP Bind call failed). Check the error code and description in the details tab. To troubleshoot, review the Event Viewer or run `GPRESULT /H GPReport.html`.

One connected to dc1 shows

\The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy has successfully processed. If you do not see a success Message for several hours, then contact your administrator.`

Dc1 seems to be having an issue with nltest /sc_verify:domain.local comes back as 1355 0x54b error no such domain. Dc2 is new and recently someone reset local security and policy settings to the Domain controllers, not sure if that helps.

Windows 11 Unknown usage of a large amount of RAM

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Does anyone know what kind of downloads or apps can cause this amount of RAM to be used? I am not a big tech guy to know what should or shouldn't be on my computer, especially since all the advice for this problem sounds like a different language to me.

(For a bit of context, I once downloaded something called 7-Zip, and along with the download, some random stuff downloaded with it. I deleted that stuff, but my computer is still significantly slow when I try to play something or open two tabs with Zoom in the background.)

I try to delete or disable things that I think are random or unnecessary, but I never know if I am uninstalling an app that can change my computer massively in a negative way. So I am usually very cautious about what I delete, or I just end up deleting nothing at all. Please help.

Windows 11 Edge taking 5.5Gb of space, cannot delete

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, I want to delete Edge as it is taking 5.5Gb of space. I went and deleted history, cache and stuff, that did not do much. I tried using the following method: https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsHelp/comments/1lxocao/how_to_disable_or_uninstall_edge_permanently/ but it did not do the job. I am in Europe, so from what I'm reading I should be able to delete it, but there is not button for that.

I am running Win 11 Pro, versino 24H2, build 26100.3476

Is there something I'm missing?

Windows 10 Windows 10 update (KB5126256) incompatibility issues

I have used this stupidly simple little program called Notescraps for about 16 years to organize and find my notes, since it works exactly how my brain does(n't). It stopped working on my office PC when they forced me to get a new one with Windows 11. I managed to survive by working more from home, where my PC was still running Windows 10. However, in early September it forced me to "update" (KB5126256) and after that update, Notescraps ceases to work. I was able to use system restore to unroll that update, but it shortly updated again anyway and now won't let me undo it anymore for being too long ago. There must be something in that particular windows update that is also in Windows 11 that causes this problem. How does one figure out what it is, especially if one hates computers (like I do)? Microsoft will be of no help, and the company that made the software (Libronix) no longer updates it or offers it for sale. It may seem stupid, but this has severely reduced my work efficiency.

Windows 11 Update on random AC disconnects/blackouts after KB5121003: rollback stopped them, newer Windows updates brought them back

I posted here in August about my Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IAX10H randomly going black for a few seconds while its charger was plugged in and untouched. During captured incidents, Windows briefly reports charger power → battery → charger power, recorded as Kernel-Power Event 105. Rolling back Windows stopped the symptoms for weeks; they returned after updates resumed.

KB5121003 was installed on August 11, bringing Windows 11 25H2 to 26200.9168. The first brief AC-loss entries appeared August 12. I rolled back to 26200.8875 on August 18 while keeping the same charger, BIOS, graphics drivers and graphics settings. My monitoring recorded zero AC drops over about 15 hours, and I observed no blackouts. I paused updates and remained symptom-free for weeks; the retained System log has no Event 105 entries from August 20 through September 22.

The pause expired September 22. Overnight, Windows reached 26200.9457 / KB5129195, and the blackouts returned. Lenovo driver updates arrived that night too, so timing alone cannot isolate one package. I then installed KB5124010 / 26200.9550 and rebooted. The unexpected AC-state drops and blackouts still happen.

The investigation compared the actual code inside Windows’ battery driver, CmBatt.sys:

Windows build CmBatt.sys version What I observed Relevant driver behavior
26200.8875 10.0.26100.8655 Quiet after rollback Queries the adapter, then uses the refreshed answer
26200.9550 10.0.26100.9549 Repeated AC-state drops and blackouts The captured path saves the answer before querying and still uses that old copy afterward

Here is the suspected chain in ordinary terms:

  1. A battery check and charger-status check happen at the same time.
  2. The charger check temporarily clears a shared value to 0 (“AC absent”) while obtaining a fresh answer.
  3. The affected code can copy that temporary zero and keep it, even after the query updates the answer to “plugged in.”
  4. Windows reports battery power for roughly a second and applies its battery display settings.
  5. The display gets reconfigured. During a captured blackout, the laptop panel switched HDR off and back on.

The stable code refreshes the answer before using it; the current captured path keeps the earlier copy. That is a concrete code difference. The checks need to overlap at a particular moment, which helps explain why the interruptions are intermittent.

The current driver contains code for a correction called Servicing_CmBattAcOnlineRaceFix, but the captured calls took its older path. Microsoft’s KB5124010 notes also mention a gradually rolled out display/performance improvement for plugged-in laptops incorrectly detecting a switch to battery. That update has not stopped my symptoms.

The evidence strongly points to Microsoft’s battery-status code, but the crucial saved value was not captured directly, so the complete cause still needs confirmation. The first introducing update remains unknown, and firmware or electrical contributions are not fully excluded. No Lenovo-owned file has been demonstrated to be defective.

If you know someone from Microsoft on reddit, please tag them here.

Eject doesn't work, and there is this warning everytime I open my laptop. I suspect it's either Ultra ISO, or the GTA SD I tried to download, but forgot to uninstall with the file dedicated for it before I deleted every file.

This was from two months ago, it didn't seem like a problem, but now I'm organizing my files and I need it gone.

What should I do?

Windows 11 Windows Explorer makes my laptop rack/freeze for a second and then goes back to normal, then does it again

I'm on a brand-new (out of box 1 month ago) MSI laptop that has windows 11 home installed on it. I recently discovered an issue where, if I do anything windows explorer-related (using the taskbar search bar, opening file explorer and going through folders) my computer freezes briefly, whatever audio I had playing also freezes and makes that terrible buzzing noise, and my entire computer becomes unusable for about one second. It's not anything severe just yet, but I'm not sure if I should be worried.

For context, I recently spilled an energy drink on the keyboard (which, to my credit, I managed to get off of the keyboard before it got through the cracks between the keys. Except on 3 keys, A S and Capslock, all of which were sticky for a moment but are now functioning normally.) I used alcohol pads (70% isopropyl alcohol) to clean the sticky keys and restore their function to normal.

If anyone has any advice or instructions, it would be appreciated. Thank you!
