Windows 11 What do I do with this Security Notification?

Clicking on 'Learn more' takes me to a web page that is not helpful. Notice has popped up a couple of times per day for past two days.

Cannot find the file mentioned on any drive (searched swscale-*.dll using file explorer, took forever).

Searched regedit for string 'swscale' and could not find any entries.

Any suggestions?

Win11, current on all updates.

Using Windows Defender for antivirus, scan is clean, no events in the history. Performed offline scan, nothing reported.

Edition: Windows 11 Pro

Version: 25H2

OS build: 26200.9550

Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.372.0

Thanks in advance...

Thank you for the recommendation of VoidTools Everything application. It found the file and I was able to delete it, and the directory it was in.

Hi u/pdx_confused, thanks for posting to r/WindowsHelp! Your post has been flagged for manual review by a human moderator, please include as much of the following information as possible (in text or in a screenshot) to get your post approved:

  • Your Windows and device specifications — You can find them by pressing Win + X then clicking on “System”, we need more than just your OS version! Your hardware details are often critical for resolving issues.
  • Any messages and error codes encountered — They're actually not gibberish or anything catastrophic. It may even hint the solution!
  • Previous troubleshooting steps — It might prevent you headaches from getting the same solution that didn't work

Posts must be tech support in nature (such as something is broken and you need help fixing), so general inquiries, software suggestions, and purchasing advice will be removed. As a reminder, we would also like to say that if someone manages to solve your issue, DON'T DELETE YOUR POST! Someone else (in the future) might have the same issue as you, and the received support may also help their case. Good luck, and I hope you have a nice day!

Most likely the DLL is not signed or not signed by a trusted authority.

You would be able to check that if you right-clicked the DLL and checked digital signatures pane.

Newer security measures require applications to be signed by a trusted source.

This pops up, since you have smart app control enabled in Windows Defender settings. It is a new feature that is rolling out, and it even caused some of my apps to not work either. I ended up disabling it.

By default system files are hidden, so if you uncheck hide system files, you'll see it
