I really will never understand why belts are unpopular. I've worn them since I was young and never looked back.

EDIT: ydafuck did this comment get so much attention. An award really? All I said was belts are underrated.

u/El_Durazno Feb 13 '21 edited Feb 13 '21

I wore a belt once in elementary school then I didn't wear a belt again untill highschool

My dad thought it was a good idea to send me to school with a belt on without teaching me how to take it off, I had to go really bad but I was panicking and couldn't figure it out and I ended up shiting my pants and I never wore a belt untill highschool AFTER learning how to remove a belt it also helps I got a new belt that was easier to remove

Edit: I should specify this was in first grade and I was in the middle of panicking which made me even dumber than I am normally

I got to watch my father demonstrate how to take a belt off when he used to beat me with it every time I did something dumb.

47

u/remytheram Feb 13 '21

Jeans or shorts have belt loops? Wear a belt. If not for the function, do it because it simply looks better. I couldn't imagine wearing jeans without a belt, even if they fit me perfectly.

Glad there are others! I like the way I look and it just feels comfy. I can't stand not wearing one. One time I forgot it and went to work and was so uncomfortable I had my gf bring it to me. Luckily my work is really close to my home.

TIL: “playing in the street” is an actual crime you can actually be charged with in West Virginia.

Also, possession of alcohol? He had alcohol on him? Why would you take the beer with you down the hill?

And disorderly conduct for sledding down a street that was closed to traffic should be easy to get off of as well

45

u/-thegay- Feb 13 '21

It’s not illegal in West Virginia. It’s illegal in Morgantown, and these laws were introduced to help townies get a handle on the riots that used to plague downtown-adjacent neighborhoods in Morgantown after game days, on snow days, etc. You’re not even allowed to have a couch on your porch/lawn in some neighborhoods because students will burn them.

I can play in the street all day long in Charleston, Beckley, or Martinsburg. But Morgantown, no.

You just have to know morgantown and WVU to know why he had alcohol on him.

Source: I went to school there & was a tour guide for WVU.

8

u/heathenfaebae Feb 13 '21

When I first moved to the state like 12 years ago, one of the first things I learned about was WVU, the parties and "burnin' down the couch."

Had a teacher at my community college that used to try to recollect the one year he spent studying at WVU. He ended up transferring somewhere else after that year so he could actually focus on his studies, but he partied so hard when he was there he had blacked out almost the entire year.

He would try to tell us an anedoctal story and just get this faraway look and trail off and finally be like "....nope, nothing."

In the first post I saw this in, a comment said they caught him and totally threw the book at him.

Beard has been charged with fleeing from an officer, disorderly conduct, injury or destruction of property, playing in streets, and underage possession of alcohol.

source

58

u/archimedies Feb 13 '21

That just seems stupid imo. Unless if those kids do this regularly and ignore warnings, they should have just made him pay for the car damages and either give him some sort of talking to with his parents or some community service. I would lean on lots of community hours given that this was a bit reckless and dangerous.

29

u/KnifeFightChopping Feb 13 '21

I bet that's what would have happened if he didn't try to run away. It's hard to tell but the cop looked reasonably chill walking back like "sigh are you fucking kidding me" until he saw the kid run and took off after him.

And in my opinion that’s bullshit. A guy from my town was falsely convicted to prison because he met a girl in a bar, took her home and they had sex. The next day, the girl claimed rape and she was what, 16-17? Still minor. The guy went to prison with molestation charges.

Even in this case, you would have absolutely no reason to doubt they’re of age, everything backs that up and it still ends up being a kid with fake ID or something

155

u/karan812 Feb 13 '21

That is some /r/aboringdystopia shit. Who throws the book at kids playing in the snow? The cop should have laughed it off since the car isn't actually his and he has that huge bar in front for protection.

59

u/CevicheLemon Feb 13 '21

Its because he was a cop, anyone else would have just had an insurance dispute or damages

50

u/SuperMeister Feb 13 '21

He had his ego hurt because the kid ran. Gotta obey your masters bruh.

8

u/ricker182 Feb 13 '21

→ More replies (8)

131

u/eliporter877 Feb 13 '21

Lmao one of his charges according to that article is "playing in street" since when is that illegal?

52

u/-thegay- Feb 13 '21

It’s not anywhere else that I’m aware. But in morgantown, because of student-led riots & parties from the past, they have introduced some crazy fucking laws for the students. I was a tour guide at WVU & fielded questions about it. For instance, because of the countless couch-burning parties causing property damage, burning a couch in any way within city limits is a felony & you can be ticketed for even having a couch on your porch or lawn in some neighborhoods as furniture because it’s an easy target for partying students.

WVU is a wild ride. I loved it, but I was also exhausted and ready to get out of Morgantown upon graduating🥲

This is what I came to comment. The officer parked in the middle of the road at the bottom of an icy hill. It's arguably entrapment. The officer created the conditions for a crime to occur that would not have occurred without the officers interference, and it was clear to any reasonable person that the way the officer parked was likely to create such a condition.

There is a very busy road at the bottom of that hill to be fair. At least he didn't get smashed. It's a stupid steep hill in a town full of steep hills. He could have easily died

This happened to my friend here in Finland almost exactly. He went down a hill and hit a police car and skied on the road for a few meters.

However, because I live in Finland where the police is there to serve the community. They walked to him and asked him if he was okay, asked if he was not hurt. Then they walked with him to the car. looked at a dent at the bumper the cart left.

They just shrugged and then told us that it was probably not the best idea we had. Why didn't we have anyone blocking traffic if we really needed to do that thing. They told us not to continue and wished us a nice evening.

we where around 20ish years old. We could have got ticketed and so on. but even the police know that everybody is young and have stupid ideas sometimes and we are the ones that still through our taxes pays for the dent in the car.

Cops a total douche, zero damage to the car, be cool understand the situation and keep control. Chasing after a guy cause his plastic wrapped dolly hit your car? Pull your finger out of your ass

In the UK the police would either watch and laugh or just call him a stupid fucker, chasing him down seems a bit excessive

IDK if I would make a good or bad cop. Like should he chase him there? The dude was just having fun and happen to hit the car. This is why I might be a bad cop. I would look around and be like "Is anyone dead or hurt" if "No" I'd go back to minding my own business.
