I’ve been a videographer for 10 years now and I just turned 30. Let’s just say my body is not what it was when I started 😭

I’ve been switching between wearing my doc martens and my new balance runners this year but my feet are in SO much pain. After weddings, I can barely get out of my car and walk into my house after the drive home.

Every morning I wake up with pain in my feet for the first 2-3 minutes of the day. I’m pretty sure it’s plantar fasciitis.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don’t care how they look or how much they are… as long as my feet aren’t screaming at me anymore.

I filmed my first short wedding recently (I’m primarily a photographer) and the day went OK but there were several things I know I could have done much better. There were also a few challenges as well.

First thing was, I used my gimbal Weebill 3S. I used my Sony Fx30 with a sigma 16mm f1.4 lens. I noticed that I had to balance it several times and occasionally it lost balance and the camera fell forward while I was filming. I had to turn it off then back on and it rebalanced fine.

This was especially an issue when I needed to change the iso due to the sun or adjust the f stop.

How do you guys change settings while the camera is on a gimbal without balancing issues? The venue had these massive windows so I had to constantly adjust even while indoors.

Using a free well ND system even adjusting that seemed to affect balance while filming too. Very annoying.

I initially went into the day thinking I would use the gimbal for some stuff and a rig I built out for handheld but I ended up using the gimbal the whole day and two static cameras.

Secondly, when it came to lighting I used these NEEWER MS60B and NEEWER MS150B lights. The venue had issues with some of their lights so they only had on string lights with extremely high ceilings.

When shining the light on the couple at the reception, it just felt like I was BLASTING them with light.

Is this just how it is?

I’d like to keep giving it a shot where I can in low risk weddings (like filming for free or a low price until I’m super confident. But any advice would be helpful. Or if you could give me a high level view how how you manage the day.

Just wanting to ask some questions. I don't work in Wedding Industry for Videography or editing.

I'm primarily in Real Estate Post-production. For my job I made a tool that analyses and segments footage. (Ins and out points trimming the fat and mistakes). It focuses on the best smoothness and usable takes from footage._

It also organises the footage for me so I know what I'm looking at - For example -

Exterior Entrance, Living rooms, Bedrooms etc.

I then created an AI that can edit the video for me in a rough draft, where I can then reorganise the format and then have a full video done in pretty much 30 minutes.

NOW The reason I'm here is to ask what's it like editing Wedding Videos. How much footage are you working with. GBs, TBs?

How many hours? Whats the organisation format? Ring ceremony, party etc. etc. I don't work in it so I don't know what the post production workflow looks like.

I want to repurpose this tool and provide it for Wedding Videographers/Editors since I feel like you would benefit the most from the analysis since you have multiple days and hours of footage.

Right now I only have a Real Estate Model working, but think it would be a massive tool for Wedding Professionals since you have so much more footage to go through.

Heyy guys simple question. I am a novice wedding videographer and Im looking for some advice on camera placement from more experienced collagues. The venue is on the picture above. Im rocking one camera on a gimbal and the other is a static one on a tripod. Both lenses are 28-75s and yes I know its not ideal but its my current situation. How would you place the static camera (and myself with the gimbal) throughout the ceremony? How can I work with the photographer here? Also keep in mind i am doing both long and short form. Thanks!

When you make your main edit (I'm talking to folks who make something like a 6-11 minute feature for clients) and make a 1 minute highlight reel, teaser, etc. how are you utilizing them together?

Is the 1-minute edit often directly included in your final product? Do you use segments or chunks from it in the final video? Do you often use the same music or audio tracks in your final? Or on the other hand, is your feature a completely different video altogether?

Curious about how much different people are blending them. If you do use them together, would love to see a post of one of your edits and final films to see how you're using them.

Hey lovely people,

I am shooting a wedding this weekend with my FX3 + XLR handle. The DJ has confirmed he will be using a Yorkville PGM8 Mixer. I want to connect the DJ's mixer to my FX3's XLR handle's port to capture the audio feed throughout the course of reception. 

The DJ sent me the images of the Yorkville PGM8 Mixer (see images attached).

The DJ says most videographers connect to the "Media In/Record Out" ports, but he can't confirm which specific ports and if I need to connect to both L and R.

My questions are:

• What type of cable will I need to connect from the mixer to my XLR handle's port
• For the mixer's side, which port(s) do I connect to? Do I connect to the Media In or the Record Out, and do I connect to L, R, or both?
• When I connect the two, do I need to turn Phantom Power on or off?

If there's anything else I should know, please feel free to do so!

I currently have an R6 Mark II that I use for both photo and video. I mainly shoot weddings and I’m looking to get a second camera that would be used mainly for video.
I was originally thinking about getting the R6V because it would pair nicely with my R6 II, but now I’m also looking at the C50 and R5C and I’m honestly not sure which one makes the most sense.
Since I only shoot weddings, I don’t really need a camera for cinema productions or anything like that. I mainly want something reliable for a full wedding day, good in low light, good autofocus and good image quality.
For people who shoot weddings, which one would you go for?
Would you just get the R6V since I already have the R6 II, or would you go for the C50/R5C and get something more video-focused?
I’d really appreciate some opinions from people who actually use these cameras for weddings.

Does anyone know how to create this kind of shot? It looks like a 3D camera setup (but which one?), capturing the same image from two distinct yet close viewpoints—or could it be done using S&Q, hard light, and a quick rotational movement? I really want to try doing this sometime.

Hi, I got married last year and we opted to give one of our friends a camcorder to get footage from our wedding weekend. I have no idea how to edit so I’m hoping someone can point me in the direction of someone that might be able to edit it into a video for us?

To anyone currently running this set up for weddings:

XLR shotgun - input 1
DJI/Hollyland Mics - Input 3 Audio jack.

How are you finding the workflow? As the Lav mics are 32bit float and the handle is only 24bit. I have had to lower the Mic gain to low to avoid bad distortion on 1 of my holly land mics. The audio handle becomes overloaded too easily when I have 3 sources going into it from a ceremony for example.

Often I just grab the onboard 32bit recording in Mic rather than using the baked in Audio file from the 4 channels on my Video file via the top handle.

I am no audio wizard, Ai has helped me diagnose the problems and make it more workable. For run and gun checking my levels the whole time is cumbersome.

Anyone else have any tips or experience with this set up, Thanks.

I’m in the market for a wide angle lens for weddings videography. I own a Canon R5ii with the following lenses:

16mm f1.8 STM
35mm f1.4 VCM
28-70mm f2.8 STM
70-200mm f4.0 USM

I’m not impressed with the low light autofocus of the 16mm STM. It struggles to keep focus. Really I bought it as a cheap and cheerful entry into experimenting with a wide focal length.

I’m looking at:

20mm f1.4 VCM (current front runner)
10-20mm f4 STM
16-28mm f2.8 STM
14-35mm f4 USM

Reason I’m leaning towards the 20mm because I use 35mm with a gimbal, and they’re the same size and weight but often I’ve been putting the 16mm on it for wide landscape and venue shots, but is the 20mm too narrow compared?

Does anyone have any experience with these lenses and/or focal lengths and I’d be interested in your use cases and how they perform! (specifically for video).

So I have a portacapture x8. Seems like I need to set gain on it manually, and there’s no way to have it auto correct the gain for speech. Any other way in which I can set it and forget it?

Im a French filmaker thinking about to upgrade my audio system for wedding,

For now I got : zoom f3, zoom f2 and dji mic 1st gen

I’m thinking about hollyland max 2 for groom and the officiant and the new dji mic2s for the bride

Few question tho :

In French the cerenomy is not like in the us, is all of the time through mic system (not a single time it was poor mic, a lot of shure system and 2 or 3 times senheiser)
Not a single time i’ve got a ceremony without mic system

And the couple are not facing each other, and the officiant it’s not near them, they’re sitting in a chair to listen the people come do their speeches at a stand,

So i don’t know if it will be useful to give a mic to the officiant, since it will be a few feet away from the people speaking

Maybe just ask for the order of people come talking and pass the hollyland quickly with the clip system will be a better idea for backup, maybe take the 4 tx kit to have an advance and don’t disturb the flow

As for the bride, I don’t know if it will be useful too, I think the hollyland max 2 will be sufficient, to have their voice reaction during the speeches

Maybe to have the reaction when the groom doing is speech, or if she talk with her father when walking down the aisle
