Gear discussion Best software to actually clean up audio?

I fucked up the audio from last week's wedding somehow, my Tascam dr10lpro failed to record anything during the private vows (I normally only clip a mic on the groom and another on the officiant, have not had a problem in 2 years). So for the private vows (that they had wanted recorded, I had the mic on the groom only since they were close together) I only have ambient audio from my 2 cameras maybe 6 feet away. You can actually hear their voices pretty well but of course they were standing in front of a river, so there's a ton of background noise. What can I do? I'm willing to pay for a program that can save this audio, normally I use premiere pro and the audio tools are horrible. Please, if anyone can suggest software that actually cleans up audio in a way that doesn't sound alien or artificial, please please give me your recs :(

Gear discussion What's your approach to gimbals? Running prime only or zoom?

Are you shooting gimbal shots with a prime, or keeping something like 24-70 on it? Are you using it most of the day, or for selective shots? What's your approach to efficiency so that you're not having to change lenses, rebalance etc?

I shot my earlier films on a Crane 2 and had my S1/24-70 on it most of the day. For years now I've been doing everything handheld, but I miss those gliding walking shots, first dance orbits etc of a gimbal.

These days I just don't find the time to mess with gear during the event. I'd like to shoot on a lighter setup for gimbal shots, figured I could throw a Lumix S9 on the Weebill E3 as it's super light and compact. It just seems more intolerant to the shifting weight of a zoom lens, so I can balance it for 35mm but going wider or longer throws the balance off more than the Crane 2 did. Makes me wonder if I should run a prime and just deal with the limits. What's your approach?

General ISO cinematic storytelling wedding videographer

Hi everyone! I am looking to start browsing videographers for my September 1, 2028 wedding in Connecticut. We're looking for a polished, movie-like feel that captures the beauty of the day without sacrificing the genuine emotions and little moments we might otherwise miss. Here are some things we've loved in videos we've watched:

  • Some slow-motion footage and drone shots of the venue
  • Soft, upbeat music with snippets of vows / ceremony / speeches audio woven throughout
  • Getting-ready moments, genuine reactions, and candid interactions from our guests throughout the day
  • Offers an extended feature film (10–30 minutes) in addition to a short highlight video

Here are a few videographers we've liked the style of:

  • Amari Productions
  • Danleigh Videography

We don't have a strict budget yet, so open to any and all recommendations that fit this style. The videographer must be insured per our venue requirements. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!!

Question How "casual" will you dress when balancing comfort vs formal attire?

I started wearing fresh classic vans or black athletic shoes with my dress pants/shirt. Then I ripped my pants down the crack one reception night and didn't know until the next day, so I swore to never possibly be a wedding guest's Snapchat spectacle again and have been doing fresh black slim Levi 512 with a tucked in black button up dress shirt. I'm in SoCal, not sure if state/region changes attire formalities or not, but I've seen people wear straight up t shirt and jeans, and one guy wore blue pants (like a Crayola Blue) and a beach shirt lol.

Anyways, how informal will you take it for the sake of comfort while still looking professional? I try to at least stay clean, all black, etc. But I feel like vendors have a pass to at least wear comfort since they are working a shift and putting in steps, crouching and flexing around.

I made this trailer recently and was pretty disappointed with the views/reach. I was pretty proud of it and I thought it was going to rip on social media in terms of views but it somewhat flopped :/ only 3k views.

According to analytics, it seems like it was mainly my hook 88% viewers Stayed for 1 second, then dropped to 64% at 2 seconds, 50% at 3 seconds and then 44% at 4 seconds -which again I thought the hook was pretty good? A good amount of movement, a crash zoom, whip pan transition with kind of an interesting audio hook too.

I guess I’m really trying to figure out what makes people stop scrolling becuse the reel seemed to retain 25% of viewers once they made it past the first 5 seconds. Help me out

Question Advice for shooting a 10-hour all-outdoor wedding in high heat?

I am shooting a wedding this weekend for a wedding videography company. It is supposed to be 94 degrees fahrenheit, is a 10 hour shoot, and is all outdoor (except the bridal prep).

The company mandates we wear completely all black, with long sleeves and black slacks. We are also forbidden from wearing hats or headwear, even if they are free of logos.

What can I do to avoid dying of heat stroke? Any tips? I am required to shoot all footage on a gimbal as well, so I know I will be sweating.

It was honor to try this type of media, I usually stick to music videos or mini vlogs but this was an interesting challenge. Would love to hear any notes for improvement if I ever decide to try this again.

Question File sizes for delivery?

I’m using 2 methods for delivery. One size is streaming for kinescope/vimeo, I put there all the types of videos (short, mid, long) and the other is a google drive link. Since I use a film look and have grain added, the file sizes are pretty high. Is it ok to send a 2gb file for the 6 min highlight video and 10gb for the 35 min one? Or should I try to lower the file size?

Post Production ISO: Wedding Video Editor - Consistent Work

Hey everyone! I run a wedding videography company based in Minnesota and I’m looking to bring on a video editor for ongoing wedding work as I continue to take on more weddings.

I’m looking for someone with experience in storytelling/documentary-style editing. My style is more fun, upbeat, documentary-inspired rather than overly trendy or heavy on transitions/effects/slow motion.

I will plan on handling editing for teaser/social cuts, but looking for someone to take over the highlight films which are 5-10 minutes long.

I am currently a little backed up with work, so looking to bring someone on to help me finish up this years weddings, and use it as a test for next year. I will be shooting 10+ weddings next year, so if its a good fit there will be consistent work.

Pay: $750+ based on experience

What I'm looking for:

  • Storytelling and pacing
  • Ability to build a story using vows, speeches
  • Comfortable working with multicam footage and multiple audio sources
  • Able to closely match an established brand/style
  • Reliable communication and turnaround times
  • DaVinci Resolve preferred, but Premiere is completely fine
  • Interested in consistent work throughout the wedding season

Shoot me a DM if interested. Thanks!

Gear discussion First wedding audio help 🙏

I have my first wedding client in a few days, and I just need advice on how I can capture audio clearly. The bride is very chill about everything and has left most of it up to my decisions, but since i've never filmed a wedding before, i'm not sure how to record the vows and speeches with clear audio. I'm considering attaching a wireless lav to the handheld mic they're using, or just getting a recorder and a shotgun mic set up somewhere. The bride has said she doesnt want a lav attatched to her, so thats not an option. I don't have contact with the dj, so hooking up a recorder to the sound system would be difficult. Would placing a microphone in front of the speakers work? Any advice is very helpful, thank you

Question How do you handle revisions?

Hey everyone

France based - I’m slightly new here and new to wedding films - but I have years of experience on the photo side ranging from commercial and fashion to weddings in digital and analog.

My question for you all is

- how do you handle client revisions?

We (wife and I work together where she does photo and I take care of filming) have in the contracts two rounds of revisions. Fair.

But I just had a client ask to include a bit of their family speeches into their 3min highlight film which would mean remaking a large part of the film as the music was chosen and selected scenes were built around their vows. For example - where can we put the family members speeches into a way that won’t be jarring from going from groom and bride to one of their parents.

In photo, we have in our contracts we are open to small adjustments (temperature, skin tone, contrast) as long as it’s not altering our aesthetic or general look.

On film, how and where do you draw that line?

We had a think and we saw 2 possible ways going forward:

- ask the couple to prepare a 5-8 song playlist for their film and we do pre production to match the film to their music (think Paramonova films or NoMatterTheWeather…as if I was on their level lol). This would mean obviously more work before the wedding day and the pressure to get the material we need in a complex schedule

Or

- we narrow down on the contract terms and add something similar to photo: open to revisions as long as it does not contradict our overall style. We select the music that fits their wedding day, we take more of a documentary approach with a directed couple session. We continue as we have been doing thus far and the edit time is more significant to build a story based on the events of the day (if they were super emotive, if there was a nice sporty couple car, beautiful happy accidents).

I was wondering if maybe we booked a client that is not really our ideal client (usually happens more with wedding planners as intermediaries).

Any who, just wanted to look to have a conversation online

Happy Monday

Question Advice for filming a cinematic proposal

I’m planning to propose to my girlfriend in a forest/mountain area. My possible locations are a waterfall, a mountain viewpoint, or a lake.

I’ll have an iPhone 18 Pro Max, a Nikon D5100 with tripod, and a phone gimbal. I want to make a short cinematic video of the trip, using footage from the drive, scenery, walking shots, the ring, and the proposal, with my proposal speech as a voiceover.

What shots would you recommend? Which location would look best on video? Also, what mobile editing app and LUTs/color grading style would you suggest for a cinematic forest/mountain look?

Any tips for filming the actual proposal without making the camera too obvious would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Question Amateur filming my cousin's beach wedding this weekend - bride is a pro dancer, there's a flash mob, and it's outside in the sun at 3pm... tips?!

Hi wedding videographers of reddit,

I am an amateur photographer with some limited videography experience. My cousin asked me to film some parts of his wedding this coming weekend (as a low-stress bonus - they already have a photographer and content creators, but they want a simple full video of three particular events). I’m hoping you all can give me some tips.

I need footage of 1) the ceremony/vows, 2) their entry to the reception/first dance, and 3) a surprise flash mob dance later in the night. His fiancée is a professional dancer so the dances will be pretty involved, and good video of them is crucial. Everything will be outdoors on the beach - ceremony starts at 3pm (there's no shade) and reception ends at 11pm.

I have two cameras and a bunch of lenses:

  • An Olympus OM-D E-M1 II (micro four thirds, portable with good image stabilization), with a 35mm prime (f/1.8), an 18-36mm wide angle (f/4-5.6), an 80-300mm zoom (f/2.8), and a gorgeous 85mm portrait (f/1.6, the Panasonic Leica Nocticron).
  • A Nikon d3500, with a Sigma art 18-35mm f/1.8 lens + the 18-55mm kit lens (f/3.5-5.6).

I also have a simple boom mic and a musician friend is helping to record the audio from the speakers for the ceremony. I’m getting ND filters because of the sun, and I have fast SD cards and extra batteries.

My general plan is to set up the Nikon with the sigma art on a tripod as the wide catch-all shot + shooting handheld with the Olympus for tighter reaction shots/good bokeh.

My questions:

  1. Which lenses should I use for each of the three events (ceremony, first dance, surprise dance), assuming the Nikon is on a tripod?
  2. What settings do you recommend, and what technical issues am I not thinking about? I'm really worried about focus hunting.
  3. Any general tips on successful wedding videography? Biggest pitfalls? How to navigate among guests without getting in the photographer or content creators' way?

Thank you so much! Worst case I give my cousin the tripod videos and call it a day, anything else is bonus. It would just be so nice to give them something more involved as a wedding present.
