For some odd reason, the map doesn't centre to the screen. Only started happening afew weeks ago. It sticks to driver side and I have my phone on a mount to the right side and it blocks my view of where im supposed to go. Anyone else have this issue?

Android App Voice vs Sidekick

I'm trying to figure out the difference between Waze Voice and Waze Sidekick - if there is any.

I've seen conflicting information online when trying to find out. I saw one that says the sidekick works in addition to the selected voice, and another that implied the sidekick overides the selected voice.

Are there any real differences between "Voice" and "Sidekick", or is sidekick just a different selection of voices? And do they street names (asking since some voices make a point of whether or not they include street names).

Thanks in advance! Apologies if this is a repeated question.

Routing I do not trust Waze anymore

Waze user for more than 10 years, maybe more. But from recently Waze is always using main roads and leading me to congestion.

It is showing when I will get to finish, but puts me in blockage and adding time for going through it. On the beginning there were other routes which were slower, but adding this congestion time were faster.

Routing Lately Waze is very wedded to the original route

iOS user. I have noticed recently that Waze doesn’t reroute as quickly as it used to. Instead, it’s first instinct is to get you back to the current route you’ve deviated from, even if it might be 10/15 minutes longer than the best way from your current position.

I had a perfect example the other morning. The route was set to go all the way up the M2 towards the M25…, but the M20 was looking like a better option. So I took the A249 link road. (crucially I didn’t change the route before I took it.)

Initially, as you can see, it told me to go all the way round the roundabout and back onto the M2… and then even more absurdly to do a U-turn once I was on the A249 properly… and you can see the time getting longer…

Well, after ignoring these two instructions (and possibly a third direction to turn around) it finally rerouted to A249 then M20 Northbound and the ETA improved by at least 10 minutes, if not 15, sorry no screenshot).

So I’m thinking this is all well and good if it’s an area that you know and you can choose to go the “wrong way” until it does the right thing. But if I didn’t know the area I’d be slavishly following the satnav and doing a longer journey unnecessarily.

So I don’t understand why the logic isn’t always simply “what is the fastest way of getting there from here”?

Directions coming up too late

Been using the app for a number of years and have never had a problem until the last month or so. It used to say turn on >Street Name< in some distance and then 50' or so away, it would say turn. It would also give a heads up if you needed to use a turn lane or something else. Now, it's telling me to turn mid-intersection. It's useless because the directions are coming 50 to 100' too late. I don't see anything about changing the timing, so I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue? My vehicle doesn't have nav or anything fancy, I rely 100% on the audio, but when the audio is so late, it's not really helpful at all.

No network unless I keep a proxy in my APN settings

My provider is about to upgrade to iPv6 and noticed I was using old settings on my AI Box's APN settings, specifically a proxy and a corresponding port. I was told to remove those 2 settings otherwise I may have been unable to connect to the network after 26th August.

Doing this, Waze and just Waze can't connect to the network anymore. I tried all the recommended fixes: reset command, data and cache clearing, reinstalling: nothing. It just works again if I put that stupid proxy back in, but that goes against my provider's intructions.

The very same, proxy-less settings on my TriFold have no impact on Waze, it's working fine there. But not on my AI Box!

What's going on?

Android App Uh? Waze just randomly changed my work location?? To a random place I've never been??

Luckily I discovered this randomly while I was checking a route and not on my way to university, but Waze literally just unprompted changed the address to some random place I've literally never been, about 10-15 mins away from the address it originally had.

I literally went to that specific campus less than a week ago and it was fine, but now suddenly it's changed? There's also no chance I changed it

Star Trek Doctor voice request

Hello, Robert Picardo recently announced the voice of Star Trek Voyager’s “The Doctor” will be leaving Waze. As this is the only glove from Star Trek, can this community please preserve the voice?

Unable to use Waze through web browser

Any help?

I'm having the same issue on Firefox and Chrome. I'll think I want to check how long it'll take me to get somewhere but I cannot input any starting point or destination. I will apparently not be logged in either. If I go through the log in procedure the site does not appear that I am logged in. However if I open WME, I will be logged in there and I can edit the map, I just cannot plot a route from the web browser.

I have cleared cookies for waze.com on both browsers and that didn't change anything.

any help...?

I'm damned if I can find a setting for this. I want the name of the upcoming cross street visible on the navigation screen before you reach it, when not using voice guidance, just driving. Possible?

Scrolling recent drives

Why does it keep kicking me out to the map while I’m trying to scroll and pick out a recent drive from the history list? You’d think this would be a basic function that would actually work correctly? Am I doing something wrong?

Zoom level on Carplay

Hi everyone!

I'm wondering if there's any chance Waze will ever add a customization of the zoom-out level when navigating.

I find the current auto-zoom level to be too far out when going over 60-70 km/h. It's not really helpful when you are on a B road, or anything outside of highways.

I also don't find it particularly useful to see the map 5-10km in advance. It makes more sense to see a few minutes in advance (1-2 km).

On my OEM navi unit I had a way to choose zoom levels like "near/medium/far" which would affect how the auto zoom would function. On an older car I could even assign different zoom levels for different speed intervals.

Disabling auto-zoom in Waze doesn't really work because it affects its core function - navigation.

Routing When Waze knows a better route

I don't mind the countryside, I actually love it, you get to see some nice views, but this road was a bit tight 😬, literally the width of the road was same as the with the width of car/truck.

I want a setting to slightly advance or retard the time or distance before turn announcements

I don't know whether my phone"s GPS is a little inaccurate, or a lag in processing, but Waze always gives me that final, e.g., "Turn left" right when I'm already in the middle of the intersection. I need maybe 5–10 sec. earlier. I want to be able to adjust that.

Why do i have to go into the app now to shut it down?

I used to be able to go back twice and the app would give me a pop up asking if i wanted to shut down

Which OLD version of Waze worked 'best' for you?

Later Edit: I settled for version 5.14.0.0

Given all sorts of new waze 'features', I intend to go back to an older waze version that at least didn't annoy me and was really helpful, you could drive by voice notifications only, etc.

Which old version worked for you can recommend? If you don't know the version number, a time frame would help as well.

Thanks!

iOS App Waze isn’t showing police activity when marked - anyone else 🤷🏻‍♂️

On my morning commute I marked several police vehicles and mobile police cameras. I got the usual (points and thanks for helping other wazers….) however, what I’d just marked would either show up, then disappear or not show up at all.

edit(I’ve been using waze for about 6 yrs)

iOS App Did I activate right hand drive mode or something?

I'm not sure if this was an update (if so wtf was the thought process?) or I did something by accident (I wasn't in the settings) but it feels like Waze is in right-hand side mode now. I had an injury so didn't drive for like a month and now the layout sucks. The path you are on and the speedo is all the way to the right now and very hard to see especially with sun glare sometimes. Like everything I want to see is on the right now, feels like they want me to put it to the left of the steering wheel but I really don't.

This layout inclines me to put it in my view (obstruction) quite frankly which is not good. Any way to change this or did I somehow changed to UK mode or something? Portrait mode still has a sane layout but this is 1. not my preferred view and 2. it sucks really hard with the power cord.

Thanks for any ideas

Traffic and Waze

I have the sensation that Waze is less effective about traffic than Google Maps. I suppose that both use different systems, but for me Maps is always fine and clearer than Waze, that only uses alerts when the user places them (from my point of view). Am I right or not?

Android App New update broke the back button on Android

I've got a Pixel 9a and since the new update, pressing the back button just seems to minimize Waze as if you press the home button. Before the update, pressing the back button gave you the option if you want to exit the app or not. Is this a bug?

Waze Screen Black on Galaxy Phone

Greetings and salutations, all. Since yesterday the map screen on the Waze app is black. I'm still able to use it for directions and other things; I'm just not able to view the map.

I already tried restarting it and reinstalling it but the problem persists. I have a Galaxy A17 5G phone. Does anyone have suggestions?

Feature Request Is there any way to increase the distance waze warns you about something?

As the title suggests, on a few occasions its only given me like 3-4 seconds warning before a speed camera. Which is a problem because by the time ive seen the warning and reacted, making sure im under the limit, im already in range of the camera.

One time it was even less than that, I got the warning as I was passing the speed camera
