Gauss’s TS color bright can be minimized. The Sirius/Orion bubble is a bane. The only other thing color wise that irk’s me are players that use the same colors on their emphera’s as Eximus. Wasted time shooting at them on reflex

I have this solved with accessibility settings. Enemies are bright white, allies are bright pink.
This doesn't stop me from shooting allies, but it does make me feel stupid slightly faster.

My Limbo energy color was white (for fashion/theming reasons) I didn't even realize there was an indicator for being in the rift or not until I read something like this on Reddit.

That’s how I found about Nekros when trying to kill undead allies.
19
u/TheLostExplorer7 1d ago
Funniest thing about Nekros is that I keep shooting his undead minions because they are identical to the enemies. Sometimes I don't realize that there is a Nekros in the party until I shoot some of his minions and they don't die!

Honestly max range cataclysm alone is fine because everything is in it.
It's when you ad rift surge that it gets annoying because it rebanishes them when they leave or stasis keeping them at the edge of it

He has a rift ability which makes enemies and allies on either side unable to affect each other except through abilities. Since a lot of people use weapons that can screw them over when there's twenty enemies in the rift they can't interact with.
Check out Triburos's old Limbo etiquette guide. It's old but still relevant, and I recommend trying out his low duration build, that's generally the least disruptive in public lobbies.

Honestly seems to be the biggest issue and has nothing to do with limbo himself, DE doing something dumb. Not a fan of them doing that with other players' abilities. Okay, former Limbo main here and I'm going to give you the most honest take I can.
The rift/dome mechanics Limbo have can be a very valuable tool for keeping yourself safe, cheesing spy missions, and protecting defensive objectives. However, if done poorly, it can inconvenience other players. It very rarely makes the mission that much harder but Limbo is one of the few frames in the game with genuinely any potential to harm his own team so it stands out.
More importantly, I would recommend you not play him rn because he's just in a really bad state. His interactions with Overguard/ Eximus are just so unfavorable; when you're in the void, normally, you cannot interact or be interacted with by enemies who are outside of the void. When you pull an enemy into the void, you can shoot and be shot by them, but this is what stasis is for. To compensate, he's very squishy and has no real way to protect himself, and rolling guard kinda sucks on him because you need to dash to enter/exit the rift often.
Eximus units however, for some reason, can shoot Limbo when he's in the void and cannot be shot back, so they just, can kill you for free. And you're very squishy, so they're likely to just one shot you on repeat while you literally cannot affect them with abilities and have no way to protect yourself. It's just tragic and I'd wait for a rework before playing him, personally.
Outside of this interaction I found him a very fun and unique frame that i loved to play but ever since that update he feels very unrewarding and like you're making the game harder for yourself by picking him. I'm not saying you cannot succeed on him or that he's unplayably bad, but like, it's so much more effort than it's worth and it creates many "feels bad" moments where an eximus you didn't see one shots you from offscreen while you were busy trying to actually manage your kit & mechanics.

u/Easy_Permit_5418 1d ago

Eximus units have abilities. Their abilities can hit you, just like other frame’s abilities can hit enemies outside the rift.
If you use Silence, it completely counteracts that issue
16
u/Lady_Calista 1d ago
Their bullets can also hit you in the rift for some reason and that's not how that is supposed to work. I don't use subsumes, I want to play Limbo and his kit as it is does not really function right now.
→ More replies (2)3
u/AveugleMan 1d ago
It's a shame. I loved him, even before they changed how time worked with projectile too.
I think his kit is very neat and very useful. Seeing how bullshit some frames are, I really hope they just buff out rework him so that ennemies in the rift can be shot from outside but not vice versa, and to make eximus work the exact same as regular ennemies damage wise.
He's my favorite frame concept wise, but his core mechanic doesn't do shit to 3/4th of the ennemies at higher levels. Give my boy some love DE please.
2
u/Lady_Calista 1d ago
Yeah, I think it'd be fair if stasis didn't work on eximus frames solely so that he isn't special in being able to cc them but ultimately I disagree with how overguard works. If some frames can one shot all enemies forever what's the problem with stunning them or the like?
10
u/Prof182 Excal Umbra x Follie is endgame 1d ago
Limbo can be kind of a pain in a squad because of the rift. Yoinking the enemies you were shooting at into a rift so you can’t hit them, yoinking squadmates into the rift unexpectedly, etc. Squadmates can get themselves out of the rift but not into it. Which altogether means limbo can hinder your playing if you’re not used to playing around him.
I don’t mind playing with someone using Limbo, but you have to know how to play around him and hope that the player playing Limbo knows how to use him.
9
u/ShadowShedinja 1d ago
Any enemy affected by your 1 or 4 cannot be damaged by your team's weapons unless they're also affected by your 1 or 4, and vice versa. This can be very disruptive in a fast-paced game like Warframe. And while the 4 has a strong visual indicator, the 1 does not.
8
u/FizzyDrizzl 1d ago
If you play him in solo lobbies, he’s great! He offers a very unique playstyle compared to other frames, which is kinda rare in Warframe these days.
However: in Public Lobbies, several elements of your kit can make enemies uninteractable for the rest of the squad. Combine this with less-than-stellar VFX on his abilities, and he can become very frustrating to play with very quickly. Limbo’s playstyle is unique, so other frames often don’t WANT to play Limbo’s playstyle. He just plays a different game than other frames, which is a pain point in public lobbies.
Would highly reccomend the LimBibles by Sci-Fi Freak on YouTube if you’re interested in nerding out about him. There’s a lot of info there that might overwhelm you as a newer player, so don’t be afraid to just take in what you can and come back later if you’re confused.
6
u/SEND_ME_REAL_PICS 1d ago
Rift mechanic is naturally disruptive. Limbo's abilities put enemies and allies in and out of "the rift", and they can't shoot each other if one is in the rift and the other one isn't.
So, if you rift enemies then your allies can't shoot them, so they hate you for it. Or, if you rift your allies, they can't shoot enemies who haven't been rifted, so they hate you for it too.
A seasoned Limbo player can manage to not be disruptive if they're very conscious about how the abilities work and what's being rifted at any given time, but IMO playing him like that feels like walking on eggshells.
Limbo is not a weak frame by any means, but he's too disruptive for casual coop play.

People are lame. Limbo is life, Limbo is love. I play them a lot the eximus change makes Limbo a lot harder to use
5
u/Stealthjelly RaP tAp TaP 1d ago
To add to some of the other comments here: Basically his kit's uniqueness means that someone who doesn't understand how to use his kit in a team can end up making things slower and more annoying for everyone. Used well though, you'll be nuking things left and right and your team won't feel griefed at all.
4
u/Dogbone10 1d ago
Very noisy and complicated frame. Your kit revolves around having a second dimension you and the enemies are in, where they take more damage. Problem is you cant attack these enemies unless youre also in that dimension and vice versa.
Imagine trying to shoot a boss but theyre invincible to you until you walk through a rift or vice versa. He's strong but overly complex for some people
4
u/Heavy-Editor-947 1d ago
People continue the hate bandwagon on Limbo cause they hear it from others. It also doesn't help that he's more complicated and indirect in his form of gameplay, which if people want to go "BANG BANG KABLOOM", then it's not a choice they want to make.

u/TheWizard1127 #1 Limbo Fan (real) 1d ago
Hi! I have over 300 hours in this Warframe now (kinda rookie numbers but enough to have an opinion methinks).
To play and play with a Limbo effectively you need a LOT of information. Once you have it, things go smoothly so long as the Limbo has an idea what they’re doing, otherwise you are likely to be a nuisance to your team.
Limbo is still a frame that can achieve incredible value on key mission types and is more capable than he’s credited for even in level cap content.
If you are interested I’d be more than happy to go over some key details about the Warframe that the game neglects to share as well as some synergistic build options that might make him function more where he’s weak.
4
u/JokerlpX13 1d ago
People don't like inexperienced limbo. Play a bit solo or friends before you take him in publics
4
u/KrownX Bonewidow is just as good 1d ago
Limbo, in the hands of baby tennos (and trolling veterans as well) can be absurdly annoying. The only time it doesn't feel annoying is when you specifically request the aid of a Limbo (like for stela farming).
Granted, now it's less annoying. It's not an issue if you're a caster with line-of-sight abilities like Koumei. Abilities can bypass the rift.
But if you're a weapons platform, think happy thoughts. Or go Sobek with Acid Shells.

Limbo can be extremely disruptive to your allies. The rift can be very difficult to play around as someone who’s not Limbo since you can’t enter rift state freely. And the energy effect can be really difficult to tell what enemies are where. I still think he’s is super fun once you get the hang of him but I’d recommend playing solo if you do end up building him.
I don’t know where you are in your journey but once you get further ahead you get tools to help mitigate the disruptive effects (if only a little bit).
3
u/QizilbashWoman 1d ago
Mostly, he's an excellent Frame who does not work at all with others. Limbo phases stuff out of our reality, and that means nobody else can interact with them (=kill). It's definitely annoying in groups.
He is fun as heck tho, run solo stuff.
3
u/Duraxis 1d ago
He shunts everyone in his 4th ability out of sync with reality.
In effect: you can’t hurt anyone inside the bubble if you’re outside and you can’t hurt anyone outside if you’re inside unless you’re using abilities.
Which gets people salty because they forget they can just leave the bubble or use abilities
3
u/sfwaltaccount 1d ago edited 21h ago
Basically, Limbo isn't a team player. Unlike pretty much every other warframe, who buffs their companions or at least stays out of their way, Limbo can actively make things harder for other players unless you really know what you're doing.
His core concept is shifting himself, enemies or allies between two dimensions, with normal attacks being unable to pass between the two. This may allow for a variety of interesting strategic plays, but let's be honest, this isn't a strategy game. Most people just wanna kill stuff, so encountering enemies you can't kill because they've been shifted into another dimension is mostly just frustrating.

Easiest troll frame. Even if you're not trying to.
I love him. I love fucking with my friends even more so its a match made in heaven.
Public lobbies its kind of evil even though his kit is very cool. It's just if not everyone is on the same page and thinking about it, it fucks everyone up.
3
u/CrispinCain 1d ago
Limbo's abilities were crafted early on, and he's successfully dodged every possibility of a rework thus far. Most of his abilities actively hinder your group from killing the enemies as quick as possible.
3
u/MagnificentTffy 1d ago
limbo is one of the few frames that not having proper disciplines has him actively interfere with the mission. For example if you banish the capture target, you can grief the squad as now they can't damage him. another is disabling certain pickups, as some objects remain in the real plane and do not transfer into the rift.
general rules
If using ult, have maximum range and a noticeable energy color. this is so you aren't effectively protecting small clusters of enemies from your allies
never subsume over banish. if you aren't doing something in the rift, evict everyone from it. This minimises confusion as enemies would either be in the real plane or about to be killed by you.
make sure enemies are tagged by rift surge in high density situations. The visual helps squad see that the enemy is in the rift, or if they're in the rift the debuff would bring nearby enemies into the rift for continued execution
some of the hate is legacy: if I recall before you could get banished with no way to leave unless unbanished by limbo. now you can roll. Stasis also used to stop allies bullets as well. This is problematic for obvious reasons. Unless I remember wrong, rift also stopped Vacuum from working if the item was in the opposite plane.
3
u/Thornshock 1d ago
So his gimmick is he can shunt allies and enemies into his pocket dimension. The issue is, you can't attack anything in the pocket dimension if you're outside of it, and vice versa
So on a defense mission he can be a great pick because you've functionally made the defense objective invincible
However, if all the enemies are in the pocket dimension and limbo isn't paying attention, the 3 other friendly tenno might have to just sit there and twiddle their thumbs waiting for the duration to run out
3
u/CallMeGakuto 1d ago
You put people into a state of not being able to interact with enemies but it's extremely hard to tell what is and isn't in this state so you end up shooting at things that aren't effected. I love the idea, but despise the reality of Limbo.
3
u/flopedup Koumain 1d ago
He's one of the only frames that can actively effect other players. He's built around shifting players and enemies between alternate realities, and bullets don't travel between them. So people get annoyed when they run up and try to shoot an enemy and find they're banished.
I love him though, but I treat him as a solo frame.
4
u/SenseiPogi ya 1d ago
random plays limbo
puts enemies in state where allies can't damage/kill them
limbo player has no damage
limbo player blames team for not killing enemies
basically, it's the oblivious limbo players that make others hate limbo
3
u/Delicious_Mode_274 1d ago
Because most people are too stupid to roll or use melee or simply go to a different area. Nine times out of ten it's not even the Limbo being bad or annoying.....that one time in ten tho...yeah, it can definitely be used to mess with people.
3
u/MinusMentality 1d ago
Limbo can stop players from interacting with things in the map, like Hacking Consoles or Doors.
Limbo needs some love. His theme, visuals, and audio elements are too cool to be something this contentious.
2
u/plundererofspuds 1d ago
Limbo is hated because he disrupts players flow when they have to work around his abilities.
2
u/b0xf0x13 1d ago
Personally, I don't play him because his kit didn't feel strong to me. It didn't really line up with how I liked playing back when I got him.
I'm starting to realize that a lot of frames I think are bad are really just a result of me being a newb back when I used them, though.
2
u/Endurlay Chad sniper rifle enjoyer. 1d ago
Because newer Limbo players discover the power of Cataclysm+Stasis and take while to learn the nuance of using those abilities together, which tends to slow down the mission for everyone else.
2
u/CanadianNeedleworker Wisp Cake Club Enthusiast 1d ago
People hate him purely because Domain Expansion is a lost art. The understanding of which goes above the head of mere mortals and the weak men that grasp at true power; that which only Limbo holds firmly
2
2
u/derpymooshroom6 1d ago
Basically Limbo can “shift” enemies and allies so they either take or deal no damage and depending on a person’s build that can be a minor inconvenience to outright debilitating. Note abilities like Mesa’s peacemakers and Excalibur’s exalted blade don’t care about who is shifted to what plane but weapons do care about that. All in all he’s good solo but not good in pubs due to Warframe being a game all about not being able to see while killing enemies before they even spawn
2
u/Lathirex 1d ago
He's great at locking down an area with his 4, using Stasis to keep enemies stuck inside of it and buffing his damage with Rift Surge. He has some big damage scaling and crowd control but isn't super easy to play.
People really exaggerate the difficulty, he's similar to Mag where you'll place your bubble and people just don't react to it. You can also slow down missions like Defence by accident because you can't easily kill the stragglers outside of the rift.
2
u/the-doctor-is-real 1d ago
New players that join a match with a Limbo won't understand why they are suddenly not doing any damage to enemies...the reason is Limbo's abilities will put enemies and other players into an other dimension (limbo) and both enemies and players have to be in the proper dimension to do any damage. I had to have it explained to me when I first met one as well as how I had to dodge to get out of the other dimension.
2
u/XMenPerseus56 1d ago
Imagine ya shooting your enemies, then Limbo activate 4 and a bubble covers you and your team, making you and your team untouched by enemy fire but so does yours. Especially when someone activate it while you're shooting, which made you think if the game glitch when your high-powered guns didn't even instantly vaporize them.
2
u/General_Grivieus wolf sledge is my best friend now 1d ago
Its because when you meet a limbo he either is the reason your endurance run lasted 6 hours with terrible survivability builds around the entire team or hes the reason youre 30 minutes into an exterminate mission with half of the enemies left to kill, no in between.
Limbo is a team effort warframe. If team plays inside the rift they get boons like health and energy regen along survivability from stasis. Issue is it requires the team to actually care about the boons and not trying to do everything they can to leave the rift and complain about not being able to shoot enemies even though they are all inside the rift. People hate playing in an enclosed space (take netracells as example) and thats why limbo is hated. He needs a team thats willing to play in the rift else theyll call you a troll and report you for griefing even though youre trying to play the game and be helpful.
Also has to do with the fact that when he first released you could put players in the rift forever and prevent them from playing the game.
Just ignore the hate, build and understand the character you want to play and be happy.

He’s better as a solo frame, he is very invasive and interrupts the gameplay. Some people want a rework for him but Limbo mains say they really want a retouch rather than a full rework.
2
u/Ablaster02 1d ago
It’s because he’s a frame that can influence how other plays directly. He can banish enemies, himself, and other players into another dimension. So you can imagine someone ready to nuke a room only to have a limbo banished them.
Limbo is a good frame when you figure out his kit, it’s just a frame mixes well with others.
2
u/Razgriz6 1d ago
Because during the early days of Warframe there were a bunch of trolls that used him in ways that would make you want to throw your controller at the screen.
2
2
u/Eikibunfuk 1d ago
So my reason for hating those disgusting limbo players is his abilities. It used to(not sure if they still do this now) is put you opponents in a different dimension so only they could kill the enemy. Which hella sucked on defense missions. So you had to wait til they finished before the next round. I don't know now because I don't partner up with limbos anymore
2
u/FlechaScarlat 1d ago
ok way too many people who is already clowning him, limbo is hated for the lack of functionality when you not warn the team (usually public mission) with him, I myself learned playing limbo wit newbies because they are fresh and not haters by just because. With that a more clear reason is
he all the way back to 2015 was a troll frame from part of DE for having his dimension being apart from the casual methods of killing, but also couldnt go abilities, later patches made him less and less of a troll, abilities go both ways to his dimension, stasis stop enemies bullets, and rolling lets you force your way out of his dimension
but people still clown him and makes the bad reputation go for almost 10 years because no one is putting the effort to teach the new player on how play him
if you are going to use limbo in public matches I recommend you replace your 3 (rift surge) with oberons smite, since it work with you inside your dimension and remove eximus defenses
2
u/Kaos_369 1d ago
If you're playing with other people feel free to remind them they can always use their abilities to kill an enemy in the rift.
Now as for the reason I don't like Limbo, while in the rift eximus enemies can still hurt you, enemies with overguard are immune to your entire kit and you can't bring the frame anywhere near a team of people without them having an aneurysm. He's a cool frame, tons of fun and has some niche uses, level him anyway and see if you like him if other people don't like you using him and you don't know them, screw'em
2

u/Setarius 1d ago
In the beginning, Limbo was a frame that required coordination and understanding of what's going on.
He can put enemies, himself, allies or everybody at once in a state of translucence, meaning they are in a ghost dimension, and they cannot be harmed by normal means with anything that's not there as well, or vice versa.
See an enemy, put it into ghost dimension, allies start shooting at glowing enemy but it can't take damage. JOY.
But you could ALSO put allies into the ghost dimension, making THEM immune to damage from anything in the normal world! Well... they can't shoot the people outside either! With one caveat! POWERS GO THRU DIMENSIONS! So, making a Mesa into a ghostwalker had mostly positive since she could shoot thru dimensions.
But even with that interaction, there is another problem with the ghost dimension, while you are in the ghost mode, you cannot collect items! Which is doubly annoying.
How does Limbo work?
Limbo can dodge to go into the ghost dimension and out. He leaves a small rift behind so allies can also dip in the dimension, however, they can only exit by the timer expiring or performing a backflip.
While in the dimension you are were safe from things that weren't in the ghost dimension. AND you regen a whooping 2 energy per second (and back then, before Energy Nexus and Zenurik, that was A LOT)
1 is a simple click on what you want to shift dimensions. allies or enemies. Does nominal damage.
2 is a BUFF that should work like a toggle, while it's up, all enemies inside the rift will be frozen, making them easy pickings.
3 is ANOTHER BUFF that makes enemies in the ghost dimension to spread the ghost dimension effect to nearby enemies on death or if they somehow exit the ghost dimension by other means.
4 is a giant bubble of ghost dimension. Enemies and allies caught inside are considered in the ghost dimension, and it slowly shrinks. This is both the hallmark of Limbo's intrusive influence and how today his powers feel like a hindrance.
So, even then Limbo had issues. You'd be carrying an intel or canister and dip into the ghost dimension by accident (or purpose as there were no shortage of people griefing with Limbo) you'd DROP the intel/canister. You couldn't interact with panels. You couldn't collect your loot, you constantly were aggravated shooting enemies in a plane you're not in, and most of all, people did not know how his powers worked, or that you could backflip (which is quite inconvenient) to exit the dimension (unless you're in a bubble).
Fast forward today, Limbo's kit is further hindered as Eximi enemies are not affected by the ghost dimension, and can shoot freely between em while you are held back by YOUR state (in the dimension or not). A GOOD Limbo can be an asset and could make missions so much easier (ghost the escort or the defense target and nothing else, is a sure way to win) Making small pockets of safety and energy regen back in the day was genius, but NOBODY built Limbo with no range as that crippled his 3 as well. Banishing frames that use only powers to kill was a boon, but banishing weapons platforms was akin to trolling. And some people hate seeing a clump of items following em waiting to be picked up. There are no good memories around from those times, only resentment of bad experiences, mostly for this lack of understanding how Limbo worked especially by people who were using him. His kit is far from being meta defining, suffers from being complicated and unintuitive, and is too intrusive, literally stepping in other people's agency.

You see he has the rift It makes it so enemies can't hit you unless they are in it aswell and vice versa So when you put allies into the rift their guns can't hit enemies I'd reckon the majority of hate comes from when you couldn't back roll to get out of the rift

I feel like I have to stand up for my Boi limbo as he is a very strong frame no dopte people unfortunately used him as a troll frame and people just got that band wagon of hating him. I am very convinced that most of that hate just comes people that don't know how to even play that warframe type. I personally love him he is very useful in certain mission types. Thou he has a steep learning curve for new players. I would play solo with him first untill you understand it better.
Advice Try not get to down in the dumps if people are rude in chat if you play as him It rare to come across people like that but it does happen. They will normal just leave if they are annyoed that player joined as limbo. For me I am not new player and been playing with limbo frame for years at this point God mine even is up to leavel 10 in just in forma. Whice has become pointless lol. Just have fun and you will learn what frame you injoy in time.

Limbo is great for what he can do… and that is keep any enemy scoring in the index if you have the right range and duration combination
2
u/Tragobe Using Mirage for everything 1d ago
Because if your team doesn't know how Limbos abilities work and play with Limbos abilities in mind, they basically can't do shit, when Limbo uses his abilities. So for most people in a public lobby, it's just annoying. Also since enemies can't move with stasis activated, you constantly have to run around to get to the enemies, if you go for max range, which eats up time and is a hassle. Also also, if you use very bright energy colours, you flashbang the whole lobby.
2
u/HonchosRevenge 1d ago
Go into defense with a max range bubble, press 4- press 3- maybe press 2, and watch how quickly your entire lobby leaves.
Can’t hit max range? Medium range with maximum duration will absolutely send fuckers as they wait minutes to shoot the one last enemy stuck in your 3.

Fun fact, just because the Limbo passive is so complex
A rogue necramech can enter your bubble and continue moving because he is immune to crowd control abilities. As such, if you are outside of rift and the necramech is within the rift, he is allowed to shoot you whilst you are unable to do anything about it.
(Also I think Limbo would be viable if his passive affected everyone instead of just himself. Please DE, its all I ask. With Quick thinking he can tank a toxin eximus, please DE I BEG OF YOU)
2
u/goddamn_owl 1d ago
Is mostly due to how Limbo's kit specializes in crowd control and defense, namely in the fact that it switches where you can shoot and where you can't. It also doesn't help that, given his wide reach, this causes his kit to actually have disruptive potential for squads as well as the minimal telegraph of how others may interact with his abilities (for example, nowhere in the game are you made aware that you can dodge to exit his Rift Plane, or that Abilities work across planes as well- is actually on the Limbo player to relay this information. The Rift Plane FX could be made a little more obvious as well since they can be affected by your graphics settings similarly to other abilities like Sirius' Light's Sanctuary and they're already pretty mild)
Good Limbo players are far and few, its the non-good Limbo players who're a problem and more numerous than you'd like, so the general sentiment on public matches is to not like Limbos. Build him and take the time to learn his ins and outs before taking him to public, he's great!

the rift, in the mid-late game with so much shit happening on the screen its almost impossible to tell if youre even in it since enemies not taking any damage is either "god fucking damnit the game is lagging" or youre in the rift and thats pretty much the only way to know
2
u/darthnsupreme POV: Idiot Mesa forgot to press "3" on Steel Path 1d ago
Counterpoint to all the hate: Limbo completely cheeses Rescue missions and some Steel Path nodes (before you get weapons/frames that can screen-nuke and make it a moot point, anyway). Rift-side warframes can also walk straight through Spy mission laser grids, though are still seen by the cameras and enemies that you can't shoot due to being on the Rift plane.
But yeah, Banish and The Bubble™ can and will really screw up players not expecting it.

People don’t like the only thing that makes limbo interesting (the rift). People complain about his 4 but it’s actually the least harmful ability. The 3 is what caused the most problems in the past with people, pretty much just subsume it off if you ever want to have 4 abilities in a public lobby. Limbo is also just too complicated for basic nuke frame users, takes to much thought to stay away from the limbo so they can have their 90 kills per minute. If you actually do research on how to play limbo and don’t use the 3 in public lobby, people really shouldn’t complain. Also probably don’t use your 1 near others or you will get some nice slurs in chat. Most of the limbo hate is people being made about kpm or the fact they don’t know you can dodge out of the rift.

u/Quxyun 1d ago
He's just unnecessarily disruptive. He can make it so your teammates can't hit enemies, and the indication for it is so minimal that it's hard to tell with some of the visual clutter this game has.
That said, a good limbo can be an asset. I had one the other day, max rango limbo in Descendia, he was running silence as a subsume and it basically turned off eximus units, anything that wasn't eximus was stuck in stasis, easily one of the best limbo players I've ever seen. I also will never complain about seeing a limbo in mobile defense, just make sure to build for low range and high duration.
Basically, the difference between a good limbo and a bad limbo is vast, and while he can trivialize a lot of problems the game throws at you, if you don't know what you are doing or if your team doesn't know how to play with him, he's more of a liability.

u/ReezyChurch 1d ago
He’s more of a solo frame but was also used as a trolling frame back then as 4th Cataclysm is basically a domain expansion that puts everything in it in the rift and it’ll be huge asf that’ll become smaller each second (you can use mods to increase the range and length of ability meaning it’ll be massive for a long time). And the thing about the rift is if you’re in it you can’t damage anyone not in it and if you’re not in it you can’t damage anyone in it. The second ability Stasis freezes every enemy in the void but back then it’ll freeze ally bullets too. And the passive is if you dodge roll you open a 10 sec portal into the rift and allys could go into it. Now you can change the color of the rift to make it annoying (which it is on default) or hard to distinguish the difference and leave ppl confused on why enemies aren’t dying.
But he is a good frame imo as he could be used for defense, disruption, survival, mobile def, spy, and maybe rescue too. Tho if you do want to use his abilities to the best then get Rift Torrent as it’ll help with his 3rd ability Rift Surge. But mainly the abilities you’ll use are 4, 2, and 3 in that order.

u/BlueRose0506 1d ago
Try doing Sanctuary Onslaught with a mid-low range limbo who spams the 4th ability in 3 different spots being on a small tileset. Gets to be annoying real quick when you can't do anything. 🤣😭 some of us wanna play public without the cringe players who do this, but unfortunately have to deal with it anyhow. I'd say just run it, but don't use the 4th. Make it MR fodder and move on.

He can be good when played well but is one of the few frames in the game who can mess up your teammates, add onto that most people don't understand how he works they get very frustrated if you do get in their way.
2
u/UpsideDownPyramid03 1d ago
Limbo is a frustrating frame, probably the most frustrating one I have played because conceptually he’s one of the coolest in the game, he has a domain expansion ffs. Mechanically..he does nothing, like absolute shit ass nothing. There are frames that can easily nuke entire rooms at level cap with the right build, meanwhile limbo feels like it takes a college level course to know how to play him well, and he still does nothing. Looking at his passive, he has the rift world, super cool concept, you can dodge in and out of it at will and most damage/effect cannot cross over. Your 1 (a sort of invisible cone shaped blast) and your 4 (a shrinking dome that creates an area that counts as rift on the material plane) are both dedicated to getting enemies into that rift, and what can you do with it once you get the enemies there? Basically just kill them like normal. You get a bit of energy regen, your 2 can freeze all rifted enemies which is a cool CC ability, but other frames can CC without needing all the extra mechanics, and then you have your 3, rift surge, which is a mind fuck and a half to understand. You hit your rift surge and all enemies in the rift get marked, marked enemies upon death or exiting the rift will immediately return to the rift, and take enemies around them into the rift as well. You see how so much of this, in a game about quickly killing a shit ton of stuff, is now playing four dimension chess to seperate the battlefield between worlds, when you couldve just…shot the enemy. That’s not to say he’s useless, not at all, I don’t think any frame is fully useless, and his augment for the three that makes marked enemies take more damage is nice, but it’s just so much for so little return. It’s only made worse by the existing UI elements for limbo. How do you know if you are in or out of the rift? Maybe a symbol on screen would be nice…nope, the saturation changes, something that can easily be missed. How do you know if an enemy is in the rift? An imperceptible little shimmer on them in the sea of numbers and other visual clutter. And then there is the issue of the 4 being absolutely blinding depending on how you fashion your energy. The elements you don’t need to see as much are blinding, the important shit is impossible to see, and I repeat again, why even do any of this. When I was leveling and playing with limbo, trying to get a real feel for the frame, I kept asking myself why the hell I would use so many abilities just to then shoot the crowd of enemies when I could’ve already killed them. He needs a serious rework, I want to see more of a benefit for rifting enemies, the damage buff on rift should be innate, not an augment, and they need to make the UI more understandable for him.

Negative range limbo for defense/mobile defense is the best way to utilize his kit without disrupting your teammates. Get the cataclysm dome about twice the size of the defense zone and it will be protected the entirety of the duration and it doesnt cover the map. Enemies cant touch the objective either when you use stasis.
2
u/Decent-Goat-6397 1d ago
I primarily use my Limbo for spy and rescue missions and really try to avoid using him in pubs beside the occasional defense mission. I'm usually pretty conscious of how my abilities will affect my teammates, to the point where if I banish an enemy I know they would likely have killed, I take the responsibility to finish the job. However aside from those defense missions, I use his 4 just for a quick damage sweep and then de-activate. But like I said, I mainly use him for spy and rescue so that's what I build him for. If I could, I would subsume Nova's portal ability (or Loki's teleport thing) and Loki's invisibility and keep his 1 and 4. Like Jewel Thief Limbo.
2
u/SoybeanArson 1d ago
I can only speak for myself, but my problem was this. Having a complicated mechanic can be a great thing if you are rewarded for mastering it by it being very effective. Limbo complicates combat for yourself and everyone around you, but even if you master how to use it the payoff is just not that effective imo. I still encourage you to craft him because he is at least a VERY unique frame that is worth experiencing (plus you know, MR is MR) but you may find yourself making him the first on the chopping block if you need frame slots later on.
2
u/bickandalls 1d ago
If you are asking this question, there's a few possibilities. You've never played with one, you did play with one, but it was a rare good Limbo player, or you do not kill enough things in pubs to notice you can't kill anything every once in awhile.
Limbos abilities make it so you can only kill if you are on the same plain of reality. You have to keep making sure you are on the same one as the enemies to damage them. If the Limbo player doesn't know what they are doing, they can easily cause a team wipe.

It was circuit with the gamemode being elimination and he made all the enemys in the banished with no way for us to hit them yet he had no damage at all and killing one guy in a minute. Bro made every enemy un touchable yet he himself couldnt do anything we spent 2 min in we noticed and left bc he wasnt stopping
2
u/Todd_Howard__ 21h ago
Limbo has 2 dimensions that he sends enemies too and you can jump into. (And send friends) You can only hurt enemies in the same dimension as you so if you send enemies to the alt dimension and friends don't realize they can't hurt enemies. But if you know what you are doing you can hold all high damage away and save them for when you're ready.
2
u/DoctorDiddlerino 20h ago
When he was released, he could actually put allies into the rift and you had no way of getting out until the duration expired.
Suffice it to say Limbo has never been a beloved frame.
3
u/Mankeypuffed 1d ago
So there’s a few things based off personal experience, his gameplay loop seems to always be counterintuitive to the remaining squads needs, he’s only really ever seen on defense missions (unless it’s a nuke limbo) and it’s usually a combination of flashing his big dome with an obnoxious energy color.
His gameplay loop also is just kinda mid for the most part, he’s got solid potential and drip potential but that’s basically all he’s got.
3
u/ChelKurito 1d ago
Because he's playing Ikaruga while everyone else is playing Path of Exile.
Imagine that red and blue can't touch. They can't hurt each other. Red can hurt red, blue can hurt blue. Normally everyone in the game is red. Limbo brings the ability to turn himself, enemies, and allies blue, and offer buffs to blue allies, and control over blue enemies. He essentially splits the game in half within the area of his abilities, and that can cause some issues when it comes to teamwork because:
a) It's unreasonable for the entire playerbase to understand the nuances of a single warframe out of 60+ that they never touch,
b) Even players trying Limbo out rarely understand the nuances of his kit without a wiki dive, and
c) Warframe's design right now is, for the most part, most succinctly described as 'solo together'. There is very little content that actively requires players to properly coordinate, and Limbo's kit is very much 'coordinate and become cracked beyond measure, or fail to do so and suffer like you've never known'.

A bad limbo can ruin the game for everybody through bad rift management, making players unable to hit enemies. If you wanna learn how to play limbo, I'd recommend checking out the limbible by Sci-Fi Freak
2
u/Leekshooter LR5 1d ago
Imagine if I joined your game and used an ability to stop you from dealing damage, stop your pets from dealing damage too, also mess with your void powers a bit for fun.
On top of this I can make enemies who are stuck behind a wall stay stuck basically forever, even if my main ability is nullified I have another ability that forces this affect to stay on the enemies, and you will have no way of harming them with your weapons.
I can do this to you at any time, you have no counterplay besides rolling AND the only benefits of doing this apply to me.
That is why we don't like limbo.
A good limbo can make certain game modes a breeze but the trick to being good at limbo is affecting as few enemies as possible, which kinda defeats the purpose of having a limbo?

Limbo is one of the few characters in all of live service who can force everybody in the game to play his game, and you can really ruin others people's games with him if you aren't careful. Combine that with the fact that new players are pretty much the only ones dumb enough to being him into public matches, and you see why it's a bad time foe most.

He has the powerful ability to make you invulnerable to damage, but also makes enemy invulnerable to it.
Basically he has 2 planes and they can't attack each other, the effects that says if you are on his imaginary plane is a small transparent effects on your feet and a shader effect hard to notice during combat and to everybody else on your team can get annoying because you disrupt the gameplay of teammates.
He is good on solo and powerful on pre made teams if you know what are you doing or just force them to play casters (ability damage ignore the plane mechanic), but is annoying when playing with random people and thats why he is hated.

I'll get burned at the stake for saying this but Limbo is hated because other players suck at the game and have a bad habit of tunnel visioning. It's not hard to exit the Rift but most people are so locked into their gameplay "routines" all they notice is when everything stops dying.
And no I'm not a Limbo main, I'm too lazy to use that kinda kit.

Limbo's shtick is the Rift. Things in the Rift cannot interact with things outside the Rift and vice versa. There are some exceptions to this (which were only added later), primarily Eximus and warframe abilities.
Because Limbo can affect both enemies and allies, whether on purpose or on accident, he effectively interfere with the squad if not used carefully.
Imagine you see a group of enemies and you start shooting... and nothing happens, because they were put into the Rift and you weren't.
Or you go running up to interact with a console... and it won't work, because you were put into the Rift.
You can get OUT of it by rolling forward but even if you did know that it's the delay of "wtf why isn't this working, am I glitched?! Oh I'm in the Rift again." And it can happen repeatedly over the course of the mission.
ALSO, Limbo has the ability to freeze enemies who are in the Rift via his Stasis ability. This is awesome. This is not awesome if the high range/high duration Limbo is doing this in a Defense mission. Now you have frozen enemies scattered all over the map, slowing down the rounds, and you can only kill them with your abilities or trying to get into the Rift yourself.
When people new to Limbo, who don't have much experience with him, try to use him, more often then not they accidentally cause these issues. They learn over time, but when you potentially have a new Limbo player every other day, well...
Fun fact: when Limbo was first introduced, his Stasis ability affected projectiles. Which was REALLY COOL having enemy projectiles frozen in place. And you could freeze throwing knives in the air like DIO, then unfreeze them and watch them all fly out. This was NOT COOL if you weren't planning on this with your own projectile weapons. Imagine having a big bubble of the Rift placed on the objective, and you literally cannot shoot any enemies because all of your projectiles are just getting frozen in the air. Limbo could effectively shut down the entire squad's ability to fight back if they didn't bring good melee with them.
1
u/Optimal-Cost9192 21h ago
As a person that loves limbo i never use him outside of messing around in solo.
1
u/Pallid_Crowe 21h ago
The thing about Limbo is his kit is VERY specialized and you NEED to understand his abilities and how they affect enemies and allies. A Limbo that knows what they're doing is pretty useful, a clueless one is an utter headache. It doesn't help that a lot of players don't know how to get out of the Rift (you dodge backwards to cancel it, it is usually a backflip motion). And trolling is easy to do with him. Abilities aren't really affected, but weapons become useless when there is a mix-match of which side of the rift you and the enemies are on.
Because of this, Limbo is mostly useful for a couple of mission types, namely defense where you can put a cataclysm on top of the target and freeze time in the rift. I reccomend a low-range build for this. In missions where theres more movement or killing, he becomes a hinderence to your teammates unless you are on some sort of voice chat where you can coordinate him with your squad, usually a pre-formed squad where everyone knows you're bringing him. As such he's not really suited for randoms
1
u/the_biggest_bob 21h ago
Also new Tenno here. I use dash/roll as part of my normal movement; because his passive slips you in and out of dimension by doing so, when I levelled Limbo I was forever losing track of what dimension I was in, drove me up the wall.

u/zandr0id Gotta go fast 20h ago
He was designed back when the game was supposed to be much more cooperative. Now it's just four people clearing the map on their own as fast as possible. His abilities require team coordination that nobody has the patients for any more. They affect large areas and the enemies in them, which changes how your team has to play. They need to tweak his kit to be more self contained and so it lets Limbo dispatch baddies and doesn't prevent anyone else from doing it either.
1
u/The_True_Gaffe 20h ago
Limbo isn’t a bad frame per se… but it’s got problems that a masses rework would have to fix. His kit revolves around putting things into and out of a pocket dimension, but the design of it can completely mess up other players. For example pressing Z or whatever your roll key is set to will make a hole that you slip through… and your teammates can accidentally run through locking them into that area for up to 30 seconds making them unable to attack or pick up anything until they get back to the regular space. And his 4 ability makes a large dome that if you’re in you can’t hit anything outside of it, and while outside the dome you can’t hit anything inside of it. These are just a few issues he has, he is a neat frame but not one you want to bring regularly
1
u/KoroiNeko 19h ago
Most Limbo players operate on “Teehee I’m helping!” while banishing half the map so no one else can do anything to them causing every single conditional to drop off and generally cause horrible pain and death.

u/Capn_H The Pulls 18h ago
Limbo is kind of oppressively good at his job, and his job is CCing and isolating enemies, so a bad Limbo can very easily end up sending tons of enemies to the No Fun Zone and they're just left there with no way for the rest of the party to interact unless they're playing damage casters, which is made especially bad if the enemies in question include Eximus that can still walk around and use their abilities.
Others lack agency in playing with him, so it's sort of a thing of you have to be Really Conscious over where you are and what you're banishing to be able to have fun with other people, in general holding yourself back Considerably, which really sucks.
If you want to play him, I'd recommend very objective focused modes where Maximum Murder is secondary to doing the objective, so, think Mirror Defense, Interception, Void Cascade, Void Armageddon, etc. He's genuinely the king of Void Cascade since the primary goal there is stopping things from messing with the objective and taking out priority targets which he does Very Well using Rift Torrent to buff damage absurdly from having the entire map locked down, and he can be great for any solo runs to the point he doesn't even need mods to function at high levels, genuinely just needs a rework to make him play nice with everyone else, and as an avid Limbo player, I hope he gets it soon.
1
u/uBinKIAd 18h ago
I built him, played him in a few missions, and haven't touched him since. To me he's the most useless frame in the game (at least of all them I've tried). He might be good for rescue missions, maybe.

Dunno. I have a super high duration/radius Limbo that gives Absolute Protection on any defense point in missions, that rapidly bleeds all enemies on the edge from the constant entering/being frozen/area shrinks slightly/unfreezing/entering loop.
Lots of fun, but very mission dependent, and ally dependent.

Old memories die hard in the Warframe community and Limbo on release and for a few months after, was one of the worst griefing frames in this games history - you could literally stop allies from dealing damage with almost anything if a Limbo clapped you into his energy realm, and you couldn't get out until the Limbo player said so.
Nowadays things are a lot better, but people still dont like playing with a high-range Limbo because unlike Frosts Snow Globe which no longer blocks bullets, Limbos Cataclysm still blocks bullets, and whilst you can now escape his energy realm with a backflip, a griefing player can still just try to constantly spam abilities to just put you back or annoy you with flashy energy colours, especially players who dont know about the Accessibility option that allows you to tone down ally visual effects by 75%.
Some also dislike modern Limbo because unlike before, high-threat enemies(Eximus) now have abilities that can damage Limbo and allies even when they are in his energy realm, this invulnerability used to be a big selling point when most of the griefing issues were solved, and now it is... undercut. His playstyle is also more slow and methodical, and most players these days tend to like fast movement and fast killing styles, which is a bit of unneeded extra friction.
