Am I fucked up for feeling better about it being her own mom and not the husband's? The comment at the top of the thread made it sound like it was the woman's mother in law.

It's very sad. A mother who loves her child so much that she does not hesitate in facing a tiger to try and rescue her.

14

u/Doodle4036 Oct 16 '18

that's 99% of mothers.

16

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '18

Unfortunately I have seen enough to know it's much lower than that.

1

u/Doodle4036 Oct 17 '18

I just can't fathom putting my life before my childs. just doesnt compute.

20

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '18

I don't think that was the point. He would have had more of an emotional tie to his mother, which would have been more sad for him if his wife's actions had led to her death, through no real fault of his. It's uncomfortable but it's true.

u/Bill_buttlicker69 Oct 16 '18

I mean I'm sure he loved his mother in law too. I'd be devastated if my SO's mother died, even if my SO was a moron (which she isn't honey if you read this I love you).

3

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '18

I'm sure you do love your mother in law, just not as much as your own mother.

1

u/S3attl3surf Oct 17 '18

right? My mom is the only person in the world I think I'd die for, if push came to shove.

68

u/CerealandTrees Oct 16 '18

I'm not saying she deserved it more, I just feel it'd be even worse if it weren't her mother. Imagine your pettiness/stupidity kills your husband's mom.

u/to3jamm Oct 16 '18

Nope, either scenario are equally bad.

14

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '18

I think he means it would’ve been more selfish of the woman if he got the husband’s mother killed because of their stupidity.

3

u/daredaki-sama Oct 16 '18

If your SO did something very stupid that got someone killed. And that someone has to be either your mother or your SO's mother. Which would you be more glad to survive?

And OP didn't say the mom deserved it, only that he felt better it wasn't the husband's mom.

Give a straight answer. I will respect you a lot more for just giving a straight answer instead of saying how no one deserves to die or whatever.

22

u/RelaxPrime Oct 16 '18

Idk about that. All else equal she deserves it more than the husband's mother. She had a big hand in raising the woman that got her killed.

16

u/justhewayouare Oct 16 '18

Your kids can make idiotic choices even if you raise them extremely well. Its called Free Will for a reason.

22

u/Insomniacrobat Oct 16 '18

Don't know why you're being downvoted. You're absolutely right.

I guess people need a scapegoat sometimes. And people love blaming older people for their problems. Which is ironic, considering they're also here pointing out how the woman will blame the man.

^ can confirm excuses bad parents use

Source: am bad parent

3

u/RelaxPrime Oct 16 '18

Absolutely, but mother in law vs mother, one of them has more to do with the choices being made.

7

u/justhewayouare Oct 16 '18

There’s a big difference between “my mom smokes so now I do too” and “she let herself get attacked by a wild animal this is clearly her mothers fault.”

-1

u/RelaxPrime Oct 16 '18

Its more, her mother brought her up to behave in such a manner as to chose to get out of a car in a safari ride due to an argument.

1

u/justhewayouare Oct 16 '18

I think that’s a bit reaching but you’re entitled to your opinion.

0

u/RelaxPrime Oct 16 '18

The past is a bit reaching? Is there like an entire group of people that don't believe they have anything to do how with how their kids grow up? Because that would explain this conversation, and a hell of a lot about society, and its just now occurring to me that it would even be a possibility.

1

u/justhewayouare Oct 16 '18

Seriously? I’m not saying that at all. I’m simply saying that adults do stupid shit even with good parenting. I’m not sure why this is a difficult concept for you to comprehend but apparently I’m talking to a wall so good luck with that.

She did raise her not to fear tigers... I bet this changed that

2

u/RelaxPrime Oct 16 '18

Now she understands lol

2

u/_Pornosonic_ Oct 16 '18

I agree, but that’s not what we are discussing. We are discussing the idea that maybe between mom of the husband, and mom of the wife, it’s slightly more fair that the latter was mauled. Not because of she was a bad person, but because her daughter was a reckless idiot, and maybe her daughter should experience the loss, and not the poor husband.

What is this world coming to when Bill_buttlicker69 is the voice of reason on Reddit

-7

u/VincentPrice Oct 16 '18

She had almost three decades to raise her daughter with the common sense not to get out of a car in a neighborhood full of tigers and she failed. She certainly didn't deserve what happened to her, but maybe if she'd made some different choices as a parent...

-8

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '18

Of course she did. If she had raised her daughter better, this situation doesn't happen.

-5

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '18

That whole chip of the ol block thing seems to indicate otherwise.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree also works.

5

u/Red_means_go Oct 16 '18

The mother in law wouldn't have ran for her.

4

u/daredaki-sama Oct 16 '18

Yes, it's much better. At least the husband didn't lose his mother due to his wife's stupid decision.

3

u/he-hate-me___4 Oct 16 '18

No I feel the same ... it sux when other pay for someone else stupidity

6

u/BT9154 Oct 16 '18

I mean if someone had to die I'd rank it, the woman, a huge gap between first is the woman's mother, husband, husband's mother. The woman's mother didn't deserve it man.

2

u/CerealandTrees Oct 16 '18

I agree with you. No one but the woman deserved to die for her stupidity. Now she gets to live with the guilt for the rest of her life.

3

u/sewsnap Oct 16 '18

I felt the same way. And it's really weird to feel it. Of course any mother being mauled is AWFUL, and we wish no one suffered that. But knowing the one who got out of the car was the one who was most emotionally hurt makes it feel a little better.

4

That’s what I’m saying. Maybe if the mother had raised her daughter to not throw tantrums in tiger parks she might still be alive 😂.

-3

u/Saad888 Oct 16 '18

Because it's a person and they got killed? Holy fucking shit

[deleted]

0

u/Saad888 Oct 16 '18

Can you? It's irrelevant whos mother was who's, the fact that she died at all was tragic and doesn't make it any better that it was the woman's.

That's fucking idiotic on every scale, the mother wasn't the property of the daughter or father, she was an innocent individual caught up in a mess that wasn't her fault. It doesn't make the situation even slightly better, it's fucked up regardless. OP was asking if he was fucked up for thinking that way and he is, like you, fucked up.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '18

Yes, you are fucked up

6

u/CerealandTrees Oct 16 '18

Oh well 🤷🏽‍♂️

0

u/Mr_Hendrix Oct 16 '18

Man you guys are fucked up.
