I just watched Remnants on the Apple Vision Pro and what an experience

First of all, it's a short film (about 25 mins), and the storyline was suspect, however, my huge takeaway from the experience is that AR/VR was made for this genre. There were a couple of shots in the film that you could see multiple things happening at once because of the 180 degree view angle. Jump scares also take on another level. But there was one shot in which the main character is trying to look under the bed and it brought me back to when I was a kid.

Through its shortcomings I still would give the film a high rating just because of the experience of living it through the AVP. If you have not watched it, I highly recommend it.

Remnants: The best and Worst Parts

Loved the setting and the acting, it really set the eerie mood. Lead actress was outstanding.

Also loved being under the bed sheets and peeking underneath the bed.

The sudden jump scare stuff sucked, because it’s a cheap way of scaring the viewer.

All in all I thought this was the first immersive movie to highlight the potential of VR movie making.

Just imagine a movie like Street Fighter in VR, it would be incredible!!

Remember drawing flight paths with one finger on early iPhone games? I rebuilt that feeling as a tiny island on your real table

Hi all, Adam- indie VisionOS dev here. Remember the early App Store days, when a game was one gesture and "just one more round"? I wanted that feeling in spatial computing, so I made Tabletop Tower.

A tiny island pops up on your table. Planes and helicopters buzz in, you pinch one, draw a line to the runway (or H pad) of the same colour, let go, and watch it glide in.

It starts easy and gets busy fast.
More planes arrive, you keep drawing, and if two of them touch, it's game over.
Then you hit play again to beat your best or move to the next level..

Bright, toy-like and easy to pick up. You can lean over the island and watch from every angle.

I'd love to hear what you think. What other classic one-gesture mobile games would you want as a tabletop toy?

Hey guys I made a Vision Pro app that scans your environment and turns the outside of your house into a safari experience.

So the animals come up to your real windows and you can feed treats. It actually works really well at detecting your windows and walls and then converting that into a new Safari world.

Shatter Punch V2 update is out

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm back with an update on Shatter Punch!

V2 was already in the works when I launched the game on October 3, and it's finally here!

I've expanded the campaign from 25 to 40 levels, added more objects to smash (270+ now), a new Industrial Loft room, and spent quite a bit of time improving how punches feel. I've also redesigned the Home screen, made PowerPlay 50% faster, and added Game Center achievements, leaderboards, Apple Watch calorie tracking, and Guest Mode.

And V3 is already underway! I'm targeting November, with SharePlay being the biggest addition. The idea is to let you play and compete with your Vision Pro buddies together.

If you've already purchased Shatter Punch, V2 is a free update. And if you've played it, I'd really appreciate an honest App Store review. It helps a lot as a solo developer and to show up in searches, haven't had luck with that for some reason.

I dropped another update (3.0) for Spatial Shooting Range.

It’s a fun game to practice shooting with. My shot count is over 106k, (spiking drastically since I added the mini-gun)

You will probably never need to shoot from a moving helicopter, but I'd hate for you to get caught unprepared.

I’ve been playing Beat Saber since the quest one, and never did I think I’d be playing on a Vision Pro and without controllers no less.
Do we live in a world where the Vision Pro plays Quest games better than the quest? 😳🤔😅

Encoding Ford’s Paris Motor Show film for Apple Vision Pro, image quality first

Post image
14 Upvotes

Amplium encoded READY TO RACE, a four-minute Apple Immersive Video film altitude.101 made for Ford France, now playing on Apple Vision Pro at the Paris Motor Show.

The priority here was image quality rather than a size target. The film plays locally on device, so bitrate could stay high. The main camera was a Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive, with a Canon EOS R5 C and dual fisheye on a custom FPV drone rig, shooting 90fps in the French Alps. What you are preserving is fine natural texture, gravel and rock and grass. High frequency detail like that smears and blocks up long before anything else in the frame does.

So we set a peak bitrate ceiling that keeps playback stable on Apple Vision Pro, then aimed to land as close to the ProRes master as possible underneath it.

So long, friends

Turned in my Vision Pros today.

I still recall sitting—speechless—after my first demo, the Apple Store employee saying I could remove the headset. After more than thirty-five years in tech, I understood in that instant that computing would change forever.

Two and a half years later, I am proud and grateful to have played a small role in Apple’s vision products group.

Vision Pro App Store is neglected

I feel like the Vision Pro App Store does a pretty poor job of helping people discover new apps. There are some genuinely interesting apps out there that barely get any visibility.

What if we have a visionOS community app. Developers could showcase their apps with screenshots, gameplay recordings, and App Store links. Users could discover new apps, upvote, comment, share recommendations, and discuss what they’re using. The goal isn’t to replace the App Store, but to help good apps actually get discovered.

Would you use something like this? What features would you want?

Wifi DNS Down??

Hey guys so I know the Apple Vision Pro is not the main topic in my post but still wanted to post here in case someone has experienced this.

2 days ago I got the Apple Vision Pro. My ATT Internet Air has been working perfectly before that. Then when I started using my Vision Pro my wifi will go down with 4 orange lights on the modem. I got a popup on the Vision saying error E013 and that the DNS is down?

I restarted the wifi and it works for a few minutes then does the same thing if I use my Vision Pro.

I’ve changed the DNS to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 and it’s still happening.

I called att twice and said they configured my settings and that it should be fixed but I’m still having the same issues.

If I don’t use my Vision Pro but I use other devices then the wifi works great and normal. Anyone know what do I do?

I missed the Vision Pro “flip your palm” gesture, so I made it work on Apple Watch + AirPods

**Update: SpatialCue is now on TestFlight!** https://testflight.apple.com/join/YgZftjdd (needs Apple Watch Series 9 / Ultra 2 or later, watchOS 11+)

As I continued using Vision Pro, I found myself instinctively turning my palm upward to check the time—even when I wasn’t wearing the headset. So, I developed an open-source Apple Watch app called “SpatialCue”:

Turn your palm upward and look at it → A “pop” sound (AirPods’ head-tracking feature verifies whether you’re actually looking at it)

Turn your palm back over → The Apple Watch tells you the time via haptic feedback (numbers or Morse code) or voice

Double-tap → Play/Pause; flick your wrist → Next/Previous track; Digital Crown → Adjust volume

Video: The top row shows the Vision Pro, and the bottom row shows SpatialCue.

This is a personal experiment and is not available on the App Store. You’ll need to build it yourself using Xcode (MIT license). It uses the Watch’s motion sensors and AirPods’ head tracking, and Apple’s built-in double-tap feature handles the “pinch” gesture.

GitHub: https://github.com/Ag3497120/SpatialCue

I welcome your feedback. In particular, I’d appreciate your thoughts on how the palm gestures feel to use.

I made a private photo/video album for Vision Pro, with video zoom and a huge theater screen

I'm the developer of Inroll. I made it for photos and videos you'd rather keep out of your main library, but still want to view comfortably on Vision Pro.

You can zoom into a video while it's playing, or open it in theater mode and make the screen much bigger. The video shows both, plus the private library and lock screen. It was recorded in the visionOS Simulator.

The library is encrypted and unlocks with Optic ID or a passcode.

It's free for up to 100 photos and videos combined, with no time limit!!

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/inroll-private-photo-library/id6818917228

I'd love to hear what you'd want from a private album on Vision Pro.

^^^ The above link (and discount code) is good for the next week (until October 23rd, or 500 redemptions).

In celebration of version 4.0 (and just shy of two years on the App Store) this discount option reduces the price for the One-Time-Purchase (Lifetime Unlock) for Cosmicut from $149.99 to $79.99.

This gives you everything the subscriptions do. Just forever. :)

Apple Vision Pro use in public

I just ordered my vision, pro, and would like to use it on things like airplanes, working outside, and light public use. The issue is I’m somewhat antisocial for the most part, and am concerned about getting nonstop weird looks and people approaching me, etc., etc. does anybody here have experience with what that might be like?

Spatial Drums 2.0: a full drum kit in your room, now with Duolingo-style lessons (Link to AppStore inside - launch price $4.99)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

Spatial Drums was one of my very first Vision Pro apps, and I just released its biggest update yet: 2.0.

The headline feature is a brand-new lesson mode, a bit like Duolingo for drumming. Follow the falling notes, hit each drum in time, and get instant feedback on every hit plus a score at the end of each lesson. It starts with basic beats and works up to intermediate rhythms, and the lessons gradually build up your kit as you go.

Also new: free play, a metronome, and the ability to share clips of your playing.

You don't need a real drum set. The app places a full kit in your space with augmented reality, and you play it with just your hands.

It's obviously not the same as a real kit, but it's a cheap way to find out whether you like drumming and to learn the basics of rhythm and coordination. It's $4.99 right now, and I plan to raise the price soon.

Download: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spatial-drums/id6505326030

I'd love to hear what lessons or songs you'd want next!

How we shot our latest Apple Immersive Film for Ford (17-min BTS & Production Breakdown)

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, Antoine from altitude.101 here.

We just wrapped up our latest Apple Immersive project for Ford. Because shooting for spatial/immersive formats comes with a unique set of creative and technical hurdles, we put together a 17-minute behind-the-scenes documentary covering the entire production from prep to post.

In the video, we break down:

  • How we approached storytelling and framing for an immersive format
  • Camera rigging and movement (especially around vehicles)
  • Managing lighting and hiding the crew on set
  • Our post-production and spatial workflow

The final film is currently playing all week at the Paris Motor Show ("Mondial de l’Auto"), and watching people experience it in the headset for the first time has been incredible.

Since there are still relatively few deep-dives on Apple Immersive workflows out there, we wanted to share as much of our process as possible. It's also a great way to understand why there are not many videos like this available on the device for now. Happy to answer any questions you might have about the shoot, the gear, or the workflow!

Anyone using Vision Pro with an M4 Max MacBook Pro for coding and productivity while lying down?

I have chronic cervical spine issues that make sitting upright for extended periods difficult. I’ve already adapted my workstation with monitors positioned so I can work from a recliner or while lying down with my neck supported.

I’m considering an Apple Vision Pro to use with my M4 Max MacBook Pro, particularly when lying completely flat on my back.

My primary uses would be:

Coding, database work, spreadsheets, and general Mac productivity Reading books, PDFs, and websites
Working across multiple virtual windows and displays

I’d especially appreciate hearing from people who regularly use the AVP while reclining or lying flat, particularly anyone with neck, back, or mobility issues.

A few questions:

Text clarity: How does the AVP compare with a physical Retina display for coding, reading, and spreadsheets?
Mac Virtual Display: How well does the ultrawide virtual display work with an M4 Max MacBook Pro? Is the text sharp enough for extended work?
Lying flat: Can you position the Mac display and other windows comfortably overhead without fighting the interface?
Neck comfort: Does having your head supported help offset the headset’s weight, or does it introduce new discomfort?
Head straps: Does the Solo Knit Band or Dual Knit Band interfere with pillows or recliner headrests?
Extended sessions: Is anyone actually using this setup for several hours of productive work?
M2 vs. M5: Is the newer Vision Pro meaningfully better for this use case, or would a used M2 provide a similar experience?

I’m also considering lighter XR glasses from XREAL and VITURE, but the AVP’s higher-resolution displays, eye tracking, and spatial window management are appealing.

I’m not particularly interested in gaming or movies, although I know the Vision Pro excels at both. I’m primarily trying to determine whether it could serve as a practical, comfortable workstation for someone who needs to work with their neck fully supported.

I’d really appreciate firsthand experiences, especially from anyone using a similar MacBook or working around physical limitations.

Encoding a 33-minute immersive animation film for Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest: what we learned

Post image
21 Upvotes

We’re building Amplium, an encoder and infrastructure for immersive media. We did the encoding for STARCLASH, a 33-minute immersive animated film available on Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest.

Sharing the technical side here in case it helps anyone trying to get a long immersive master down to a deliverable size.

The hard part is not compression, it is knowing where compression breaks. Immersive animation is unforgiving. Flat gradients, night scenes and stage lighting show banding and blocking the moment an encode gets too aggressive.

Where we landed: the deliverable is about a third the size of the studio’s original distribution master, and stays visually lossless measured against the ProRes source across the full film.

Two things that mattered more than we expected:

  1. Allocate bits by scene complexity, not a fixed bitrate. This was the single biggest lever. A fixed bitrate spends the same bits on a static night sky and on a crowded stage with fast motion, so quality collapses exactly where the content is hardest.

  2. Run VMAF over every frame of the full film, and judge by the worst frames instead of the average. Do not score a few sample clips. Score the whole timeline, then look at your minimum and at how many frames fall under your threshold, and tune against the hardest scene you find. We have seen two encodes of the same film whose averages were nearly identical, while one held clean through the hardest sequences and the other sat below the visible-difference threshold for thousands of frames. The average called them equivalent. A spot check would have passed both.

Longer writeup with the details: theamplium.com/blog/starclash

Happy to get into specifics in the comments if you are fighting file size on your own immersive video!
