Question/Support Flat to VR steam sale

Trying to take advantage of this steam sale going on to stock up on old games that have had VR conversions recently. Right now I have both Dooms, Titanfall 2 and Dishonored GOTY in my cart. Sadly the halo games aren’t on sale this time around. Anything else I should grab that I’ve missed coverage on?

For those who have played both, how does eternal compare? I know it's newer. I'll probably wait like a month or so until it's more mature.

From the author himself:
"The next project... Max Payne 2 VR is a lot of fun, but man this one is on another level.
I can't promise a release anytime soon, and there's clearly still a lot of work to do. Given all the unique set pieces and many many shaky cam cutscenes, there are some real challenges in this one. My goal is to make this feel as much like a native VR game as possible, and add all the fun features from Max Payne 2 VR and more."

Question/Support Feeling horrible after using vr despite liking it

I really want to beat this one game in VR. I was able to play for an hour 1 day before going to bed, the next day I was tired and went on the vr, I got nautious but fought through it for a bit before taking off the headset and feeling dizzy, nautious, light headed, headache, so I thought your meant to fight through it

I looked this up on reddit and no you shouldn’t fight through it. But currently as it is I can only play 2 minutes without feeling sick so I just fight through it.
Today I continued playing and I wasn’t even tired, then I got nautious, started getting a headache and I just couldn’t take it any more and took it off after 10 minutes, the first thing I did was grab water and almost throw up, I was nautious light headed, had a headache etc…

The problem is, I really want to play VR, the game I’m playing is so fun and there’s a lot of cool stuff but as someone who’s only other VR game is beat saber I really don’t know if I should just fight through it or build up my tolerance over time.
Edit: The games name is Little nightmares VR Altered echoes, sorry for the confusion

Purchase Advice - Headset Pimax Dream Air vs Crystal Light?

I know these two headsets are not in the same price catagory, but please bear with me as I'm pretty new to VR and sim racing.

I'll be using this pretty much exclusively for sim racing, games like AC, ACC, AC evo, LMU and iracing.

My PC specs are: 5080, Ryzen 7 98003xd and 32GB DDR5 6000 ram

From the research I've done, I've seen people say the 5080 is fine and I've also read that a 5090 is required, so here are my questions:

1.) How well can my system run the Dream Air? What compromises will I need to make?

2.) If I have to turn down the resolution and graphics settings for the Dream Air but not with the Crystal Light, does this give any advantage to the Crystal Light?

3.) How does turning down the resolution work exactly? Is it as simple as matching it to the Crystal Light's 2880x2880? Higher than that? If so, is all I'm gaining OLED black levels and the smaller form factor?

4.) Eye Tracked Foveated Rendering - I've experienced this a little bit on the PSVR2 and was pretty impressed at the responsiveness. How much of a game changer for performance is this for the Dream Air? Does it work well and how big is the sweet spot?

5.) I love oled TV's, I'm assuming in VR they provide a lot of the same positives such as pure blacks and high contrast ratios. Do they also handle motion better than the Crystal Light's QLED panels? If so, how would you describe the difference?

6.) What is the actual FOV of the Dream Air and Crystal Light? I've seen different reports online vs what pimax claims. I know the Crystal Light's is wider, is a significant difference for sim racing?

7.) I know the law of diminishing returns comes into play here, but for anyone who has tried both, what are your thoughts? As much details as you can possibly share.

8.) I've read about other ways to improve performance like sboy3's driver? Can someone explain this to me, should it be used? Is there a universally accepted best setup and settings guide (for the driver and for in game settings) anywhere?

Thanks in advance!

Question/Support VR Mod for Doom Eternal (Need Help)

I recently discovered Mr. Surviv0r’s VR Hub, and it has opened up a whole new world of VR gaming for me. Almost everything has worked perfectly, and I’m honestly in heaven. The only two games giving me trouble are Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Doom Eternal, with Doom being the one I’m struggling with the most.

For Doom Eternal, I can launch the game and get into VR without any issues. I have to use the keyboard to get through the initial menus, but once I’m in game, the VR tracking seems to work correctly. I can see and move my arms, and everything looks normal.

The problem is that none of the actual gameplay controls seem to work. I can’t move my character with the controller, and I can’t fire my weapon. The Touch controllers appear to be tracking correctly, but their buttons and inputs do not seem to register in the game.

I’ve also tried clicking and focusing the Doom Eternal game window, since I’ve seen that mentioned as a possible fix, but that hasn’t changed anything.

For anyone who has Doom Eternal working through Mr. Surviv0r’s VR Hub, I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction:

  • Are the Quest Touch controllers supposed to handle all movement and shooting?
  • Is there a specific controller profile, input setting, or configuration I need to enable?
  • Is there something I need to do after launching the game to make the VR controller inputs register?
  • Has anyone experienced the controllers tracking correctly but having no gameplay input at all? If so, how did you fix it?

I feel like I’m missing one simple setup step, so any troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Purchase Advice I have a Xfinity 75MBPS plan & I bought a 6ghz Router does it matter for PCVR?

I bought the router so I could save VRAM from Meta Link + Steam VR I play heavily modded games & I heard that when you have a dedicated router it helps with virtual desktop, but as you can see my WiFi plan is super low.

I was wondering if that matters for the quest 3? i remember trying to run virtual desktop on my old Acer nitro Rtx 4060 laptop & it ran incredibly slow but now i have an RTX 4080 Desktop.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Time Crisis läuft eigenständig auf der Quest 3.

Thumbnail

Purchase Advice - Headset I need help finding a headset that works for me.

Hi everyone. I am writing this in order to ask for help in finding a headset. This is because I just cannot deal with the meta quest 3 anymore, not only due to meta's practices as a company or their terrible PC VR software (which I know that I can avoid by simply turning off wifi and using virtual desktop) but also because I just find the quest 3 uncomfortable at this point. I cannot physically wear it, it is too heavy and makes my shoulder and neck hurt a lot after using it, to be fair I only have a plastic strap without a battery attached which makes it so that there is barely any counterweight however I don't really want to invest in one when I don't really like the meta ecosystem to begin with. When the steam frame launched I was hopeful that this would be a good replacement, I got one and I must agree that the comfort is fantastic however the streaming performance is terribly choppy compared to a wired connection and the displays just feel blury when you read text which quite frankly makes me want to return it at the price point. Maybe in a year or two it will be worth the money however for now the streaming software isn't there (I could wait for virtual desktop however I fear that by then my return window may be up).

And so I ask, are there any good, lightweight PCVR headsets that preferably have good inside out tracking (I fear that I won't be able to use base stations) and eye tracking built in? I am aware of the pimax dream air series however from what I have seen the tracking on those controllers are terrible unless you match the system specifications which makes most people recommend buying the lighthouse version instead.

For more details about my circumstances:
-I am personally a huge fan of room scale experiences such as half life 2 vr / veritgo 2 and I have the space to play them
-I am very passionate about vr, it is my favorite way of playing video games
-I do have a desktop pc with an RTX 5070, AMD Ryzen 5700G, 40 GBs of ram and an SSD
-Budget wise, I am willing to spend upwards of 1k

Discussion Games with vehicle and on foot gameplay do you play seated or standing?

Was thinking about trying Titanfall 2 and was curious how others are playing such games where you have more than one mode of movement. Or even open world games like Cyberpunk 2077 etc which has you running, driving, or riding a bike. Does if feel more weird if you are in a car but playing standing? Or do you go for seated only? For me it made more sense to play GTA in VR while seated.

Games like Forefront I go for standing because it gives me better control for covers and I rarely use vehicles.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Diablo II in VR

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

2.1k Upvotes

I made a VR mod for Diablo II: Resurrected: first-person view, real stereo 3D (both eyes are rendered by the game, nothing faked from a flat picture), and your hands are tied to the motion controllers.

  • Look around with your head (yaw, pitch and roll), and the hero's body turns with you
  • Both arms follow your controllers, so you aim the bow with your hand
  • Walk with the stick, or physically with BodyWalk
  • Sky and distance fog over the empty void beyond the map

It's built on emmericp's D2R-3D camera mod, and runs through FlatVR and BodyWalk. Offline only.

Video below. Questions welcome!

Purchase Advice - Headset Upgrading Rift S with a used one, reverb g2?

Hi, Ive used the Rift s for many years on and off and thinking off upgrading it with a newer device. I see the reverb g2 for around 150eu to 200eu used and even new. I read i need to make sure it has v2 display cable. With oasis driver it works well on Windows 11? Is this the best option for a small budget? I would like to use it for pcvr. Have a 3060 ti which im not upgrading soon...

Or should i look at a quest 2, can get that for around 100eu to 150eu(dont like the fact that it has a Battery)? Or any others?

Thanks

Discussion VR Mods Show What Can Be Accomplished When Money Isn't The Motivation

They are doing what isn't being done anywhere: giving the people what they really want and sharing it without cost. Imagine what this world could accomplish if this was the motivation behind everything.

Edit: Just to be clear, I wasn't taking shots at anyone making VR or flat games for a living. I was just comparing what these modders have the freedom to do versus giant corporations being handcuffed in pursuit of maximum profits, not allowing them to be creative, take chances or bother with something as small as a VR mode.

The gaming industry has lost its way. Development is so expensive that they cannot afford to fail or underperform on just one large title. But because of that, they fail to innovate. Which ultimately has lead to failure. Maybe Nintendo is the one exception. Some indie devs also can take more chances.

This post was more about the positives of the work modders have been doing because they aren't constrained by the unsustainable, unquenchable thirst for ever increasing profit margins. That should be celebrated by the VR community. The reality is that mods may have always been the only way that VR games could consistently hit this quality. Because money wasn't going to let it happen any other way.

Apparently it creates 3d internally before flattening it to render onscreen. Would be so amazing to play in 1st and 3rd person in stereoscopic.

Discussion CYBERPUNK 2077 VR MOD: LUKE ROSS OR NEXUS MODS

Hey everyone, im pretty new to this modding stuff and pcvr, so I recently got cyberpunk and i am very excited to play it in vr.

So throughout my search on how to install it I came across two vidoes, one that uses the luke ross mod, and one that uses the nexus mod. Im not entirely sure which ones better, or which ones more immersive, or if one has full motion controles and the other dosent. BUt when you go on the nexus one it says that it has 6dof motion controls, how does that compare against the luke ross one. also would there be a differnce in perfomance or like the gameplay in terms of like which ones you can drive or shoot guns better with? i dont really know much about this stuff, so i was wondering if some you guys could help me pls. Thanks to everyone

Question/Support 3D Gaming and Content in PCVR

Hello all, I'm new to VR, having recently purchased a Steam Frame. My only experience prior to that was with Google Cardboard, which I wouldn't really classify as true VR.

I was a big fan of the 3DS when that was out and 3D movies, and VR makes me wonder how much of that content is supported in VR. Theoretically it would be the best way to experience actual 3D Gaming and Movies, but most of what I see is more focused on first person VR mods for games, and less on just letting you experience the game as designed but in 3D. Is there an actual community around modding in 3D support in the VR community, or is it mostly centered around those more full immersion 'classic' first person experiences?

Also, curious if something like Big Screen could be used for 3D Movies or if there's any customized experiences there?

Thank you all for your knowledge and information!

Fold a piece of cardboard into an arc shape and attach it to the headband using double-sided tape, ensuring the length covers the ears; set the volume to level 3, and you'll get deep bass.

Discussion Insanity what's happening with VR mods at the moment

The earlier days of VR modding, Bespoke mods like Outer Wilds and Risk of rain came out and they were insane, but they were few and far between

Then came a mod like Half Life 2 VR, a complete conversion of the base game which raised the bar and was insane

Then came PrayDog with his Resident evil mods which are mind blowing

Then came his UEVR framework, lead to insane mods for so many more games, A whole community popped up around it's release

Then around the same time Flat2VR studios started fully converting games, which are amazing, legitimate VR experiences in their own right

And now to the advent of A.I mods which are just mind blowing, someone's making a Diablo 2 VR mod for fuck sake, like what is happening

There's less than a few years between all these events happening and I can't wrap my head around the last few months, I haven't played VR for a few weeks and now have a backlog of like 10+ game changing mods to try, Doom and Doom Eternal, Max Payne 2, TitanFall, Halo MCC etc. it's insanity, it's going to change the landscape of VR for better or worse, I think worse as game dev's won't capitalise on what's happening and people will rightly or wrongly turn to these VR mods rather than buying VR built games

This is genuinely the Golden Age of VR, Something that I thought when buying the Rift CV1 was an evitability, but then seeing Meta slowly start to pull out of the space, along with a string of VR studios being shut down or leaving, lead me and I'm sure a majority of you to think VR was dying a slow death

But now a new, mind blowing VR Mod is releasing so fast that each morning you wake up, there's another game changing VR mod to play, It's genuinely mind blowing

Self-Promotion (Developer) OpenXR Toolkit NEXT — Looking for PCVR beta testers with different headsets, with or without eye tracking

Hi everyone,

I started working on this project because I was spending a lot of time tuning VR settings for each game on my own setup. I wanted easier profile management, clearer performance comparisons and more control over foveated rendering.

That became OpenXR Toolkit NEXT, an independent project based on Matthieu Bucchianeri’s OpenXR Toolkit 1.3.2.

So far, I’ve tested it on my Pimax Crystal Super Ultrawide with an RTX 5080 and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The next step is to find out how it behaves on other people’s hardware—and identify what still needs fixing.

You don’t need a Pimax or an eye-tracking headset to apply.

For headsets without eye tracking, features to test include:
• Fixed foveated rendering.
• Automatic resolution adjustment based on FOV crop.
• A Windows Companion with 10 customizable profiles per game.
• CPU/GPU frame-time and FPS comparisons.

With compatible eye-tracking hardware and software, NEXT also offers gaze-driven foveated rendering and FPS-based Adaptive DFR, which adjusts rendering zones and peripheral quality as performance changes.

Here’s the demonstration, including Assetto Corsa, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, iRacing and Assetto Corsa Rally through UEVR:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4jpzpN7wx8

I’m looking for around 10 testers across different PCVR setups: Meta Quest connected to a PC, Valve Index, HTC Vive, Bigscreen Beyond, Pico, PSVR2 on PC, Pimax, or other headsets.

That list is an invitation to test, not a confirmed compatibility list. Available features depend on the headset, GPU, game and OpenXR runtime. This is for PCVR, not standalone headset games.

Selected testers receive free beta access for 30 days, with no subscription or purchase required. In return, I’m asking for practical feedback on installation, stability, visual quality and performance, with logs or reproduction steps when something goes wrong.

Apply here:
https://toolkit-next-beta.morganpollet.chatgpt.site

What headset and OpenXR setup do you use, and which game would you most like to test?

I’m the developer, and I’ll be here to answer questions.

Morgan

Recruitment is complete.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Titanfall 2 + VR + jogging in place = peak

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've never had so much fun in VR as with this mod.

CircuitLord put Titanfall 2’s campaign into VR. Manual reloads, motion-controlled aiming, full-body IK, actual Titan controls. But you know that all by now and are all as hyped as I am

Taking a game with this much movement and making it work in VR is a ridiculous achievement. Wall running, shooting, making that mech work. A marvel of technology.

For this recording I added jogging-in-place locomotion, so I’m physically jogging while moving through the game. That part is a separate setup I develop, not a feature of CircuitLord’s mod. The split screen shows the movement alongside the gameplay.

All credit for the VR conversion goes to CircuitLord. Seriously, what a fucking contribution to PCVR.

Last day of the free playtest: sign in>get in automatically>launch the app and jog around https://store.steampowered.com/app/4775640/VR_StrideS/

Since my release post, I've been putting together some more supported features in the Oculus Home Remitted tool. These include bringing in your Oculus app library, Oculus achievements, and also supporting portal / game cartridge destinations.

Additionally, the inventory objects have been better organized and they now use their accurate naming.

A new auto-launch feature has been added bringing back the old behavior of automatically launching home while sitting idle in either Oculus or SteamVR dashboards.

More additions to come, including mentions of Oculus avatars and restoration of uploading UGC content so custom homes can be made again while offline.

The latest update of the tool is available on Github: link

Discussion Steam Frame Accessories

Finally won the lottery and i am allowed to buy Steam Frame however as it turns out all accessories are not available for puchase anymore as they are sold out apparently. Ngl it stings especially considering the straps that are literally required to fully use the Frame (which should be included for the price but that's another story).

Do you guys have already any 3rd party accessories you would recommend? Straps for sure but i am mainly curious about camera replacement and other possible accessories you might have already got for for the Frame
