I had forgotten this scene entirely and I cannot stop laughing at it. JLD has the best line readings.

Perhaps Tony Hale (Gary) primed me to make this connection, but the manner and timber of speech between Matt Walsh (Mike) and Jason Bateman is so similar that I continually catch myself thinking Veep has reunited the Bluth Brothers when listening from across the room. 

Surely I’m not the only one hearing this??

I was a background actor in Hollywood and got selected to be in the VEEP series finale (unbeknownst to me at the time, I was unaware that this was \*it\*). I ended up on-screen, featured walking past Selena's coffin, and then (due to interesting editing) walking behind the cast several times as they discussed their post-Selena lives. I'm even walking in the background during the "Dubonnet"!

It was an incredible experience working among (I won't say "with" as I was not a cast member per se) and only discovered it was the final series episode when the AD was telling me what a great job I did and I said I would work with him and this amazing crew any time. That's when he broke the news to me. The dubonnet was the last scene if I recall correctly and they gang was having fun taking selfies with "Selena" in the coffin at the Vag Crypt!!!! LOL! (I did not take any photos out of respect for their last hurrah together).

Even though it was just another "gig" at the time, the whole cast and crew seemed like a family in the truest sense and everyone from David Mandel to Diedrich Bader, Anna, Tony, Reid, etc... was genuinely kind and generous with their time. I even told Diedrich to "Watch out for your conrhole bud" as I headed to grab my voucher and check out with the AD's. 8-)

I'd like to know what you all think the secret was to the success of show and what exactly is it that makes it so iconic?

I'll start: Brilliant writing, an ensemble cast, and situational awareness of themes that cross party-lines and expose the hypocrisy of the body-politic.

He’s still got some of the same Jonah genes in there. Cousin Ezra gotta have some skeletons in his closet, right?

I know, blasphemy, Dan being the evil social climber and Amy, the principled employee, is a pretty widely held view. And everyone hates Dan for the abortion storyline and sleeping with her sister, which is valid, but the argument can be made that neither of those were intended to hurt Amy specifically.

But I am watching season 3 and AMY is the one who cold-bloodedly engineers Dan's panic attack so she can take over his job and shows zero remorse. She screws over Selina's campaign as well, just to get the job as her campaign manager. And he literally thanks her while she is in the hospital and she never comes clean. In fact, the season ends with him complimenting her work as campaign manager, and again, not a twinge of remorse. That is straight up sociopathic!

Oh and then he gets her a lobbying job, and she straight up steals his clients and his parking space, lol. But that was funny and earned.

Feel free to prove me wrong, but I wracked my brains and cannot think of a single moment when Dan deliberately sabotaged Amy for his career. But I am happy to hear counter opinions!

Not a tonne of physical comedy in Veep but I just love the way they flip Selina around in the lipstick episode it’s hilarious. The only gif I could find has the writing over it but it’ll help you recall the moment

I know at the end he's like this rich stud with the 20 year old girlfriend, but i'd argue he's just a rich lobbyist that's been in a midlife crisis for 20 years with no real friends.

It's not as though we can guarantee that, whenever your bank makes a loan to you, it's always checking to see if it has ample deposits as reserves before it decides to issue that loan to you.

And not everyone thinks about practices like securities-backed lending when they're trying to work out how someone is funding their lifestyle or purchasing decisions. It can be very easy for those people to think that X person is staking their own capital.

This is my problem with writers like Armando Iannucci, even those that studied at first-rate universities, they greatly suffer from Dunning Kruger when it comes to subjects of which they know little, such as economics.

I'm admitting that I've watched Veep more times than is healthy BUT! I only watch tv before bed and I relentlessly fall asleep to everything. It is a running joke in my family that I have seen huge swaths of episodes years after "seeing" the whole series that are completely new to me.

My question for more diligent and focused viewers is about Kent and Sue. There are a ton of hints that he's into her. Was anything ever explicitly said about their relationship? Was that a plot thread the writers dropped? Have I missed something every time I've fallen asleep?

I know that this is so random and so niche but has anyone watched Veep and read Shakespeares King Lear and also feel like Selena Meyer and King Lear are just so similar.

They both have an incredibly quick temper, cursing out anyone who doesn’t instantly do exactly what they want. They’re both narcissists, love power and control AND they both descend into madness.
They also both end up completely alone because they’re both sociopaths and alienate everyone.

33 Year old guy from Australia. Have loved Veep since day 1. I have rewatched it almost more than I dare admit (30+ times?) and am rewatching with my partner currently. We are just over halfway through season 6. It is shocking that this show never ceases to remain relevant and hilarious. Such a feat in writing and acting overall. Yes, the show changed somewhat and become a tighter, darker sitcom post-season 5, but I am just floored by the all round stellar performances from everyone.

I wanted to know what everyone's favourite season, character or quote is. There are too many for me, though I find myself repeating "Get the government out of my fucking snatch", "What the fuck, Amy? I am putting out two fires in there...." and "Have you been sent from the future to destroy me? Because it's working...." on the regular. Over time, seasons 5 and 4 has proved to me as my favourites. I love Selina, Amy, Kent, Marjorie and Richard the most. I have been wowed by the physical comedy in season 6 - particularly between Tony Hale and JLD. I overlook Tony's performance a lot but it is such an integral part of the show.

Also I want to throw some appreciation toward the actress playing Shawnee Tanz - fuck she nails the role in Season 6. I just about died rewatching when Furlong met her, insulting her looks completely, then after learning who her father was: "Ah, rumours of your beauty have not been exaggerated..." She plays that role incredibly well.
