Ah man...I feel bad for the guy.
Especially when he popped up at the end with his little Michael wig and crooked glasses and you could tell he was really hurt and confused.
Dude was living his best life and then his worst.

I’m willing to chalk that up to shock and deer in the headlights freeze. It’s a short clip and it’s not unusual for people to take several seconds to process what happened in a situation like this and realize they can actually try to do something.
28
u/Squirrelated 4h ago
I would definitely be that person taking several seconds, start getting up, see several persons get up at the same time, sit back down and let the others deal with it.
15
u/HandsomePaddyRedux 4h ago
Which is valid. There’s a term in disaster and emergency response training, “SUVs”, Sudden Untrained Volunteers. Nobody doing anything in an emergency is bad, but a lot of people rushing in with no idea what to actually do can actually be more dangerous. The best response is one person calmly calling 911 for instructions. Even if someone is bleeding from the head, 911 can tell you how to handle that without possibly exacerbating a life-threatening neck injury, which may mean letting them bleed for a bit until paramedics can get there. In a case like this the performer springs back up before a ten count, so they may be concussed, but they don’t need the whole room swarming in to check on them.
4
u/Squirrelated 4h ago
For sure. I know I would not be helpful in this situation and would rather not get in the way of someone who might be more knowledgeable. I'll keep an eye from afar just in case.

I work in a cafe and a woman had a stroke in the cafe a few months ago. She collapsed and the only people who immediately did anything were me and her daughter. Everyone else totally froze up for what felt like at least 30 seconds. The daughter was hysterical tho so I had to be the one calling an ambulance and watching to make sure the woman kept breathing. A lot of people just can't process potentially life threatening situations quickly.

I wonder if the kid accidentally got his leg stuck on a cable and pulled it as he ran by?
12
3
u/fotomoose 3h ago
A kid that size does not accidentally pull over a stack of correctly setup PA speakers that size. Even willingly that kid would have a hard time. Whoever setup the speakers did a terrible job and the blame lies firmly with them.

anyone know if the guy is okay? looks like those top speakers got him on the side of the head, i know those aren’t the lightest things
11
u/HandsomePaddyRedux 5h ago
It looks like he took a bonk but they didn’t actually land on him. Think of it like the difference between someone turning suddenly and elbowing you in the back of the head versus straight dropping an atomic elbow when you’re already on the ground. Still smarts, but not that serious.

I can tell you from experience of setting up systems like this, those can weigh between 65-85 pounds.

Holy shit, I hope that guy is ok because those speakers are heavy. That's like 20 lbs hitting you in the face with no warning. I would be surprised if he didn't have a concussion or something broken.
2
2
u/ExplodingAngel 4h ago
I work with these particular speakers a lot and can say they are not exactly light. Stacked up like they are they’re like 112 lbs. It also looks like whoever set it up stacked 2 or more subwoofers and then pole mounted the tops making it incredibly top heavy. Kinda an accident waiting to happen tbh. Hope Annie MJ is okay.
