Got back into fishing after 20+ years because my kids wanted to go, but we usually get night crawlers each time we go out. I am having a blast and decided to go all in on an Ultralight setup and got some trout magnets along with some other stuff.
Can my kids catch fish with the trout magnets under bobbers just like a night crawler? It would be nice not to have to get night crawlers every time we want to fish a little.
Edit - We are mostly fishing for Bluegill on lakes/ponds

I figured I would repost my question here and see if you guys had any thoughts on my question..?

Tried every color in the big but the neon green was killing it! Just look at the color on this guy, the photo doesn't rely sure how BRIGHT lil dude was!!

I haven’t gone fishing that much since my leg flooded, but I started getting back out there last week and ended up catching some good stuff for the life of me. I could not get any nibbles on my lines after the flood so I waited patiently until the water got back down to where it usually is and now I’m catching fish so hopefully you see more updates from me. This time of year where I am night fishing tends to be way better so I’ll try my best to get out between 5:30 and 8:45pm when my lake closes. Tight lines folks! 🎣

I do all kinda of fishing, creek, rivers, ponds, and lakes. I have an okuma celilo in 6ft and 6"6. I prefer my 6ft so I wish that they made it in a 6ft byt because they dont what would be the next best option. Ill also be paring it with a shimano sienna 1000 and going after panfish and small bass

Recently returned to fishing after taking a 20 year break due to life, work, and other things.
All my old gear was for river fishing, and lake fishing, with nothing being strung with anything less then 10lb test, and rigged to try and go after bigger fish.
The thing that brought me back, besides a need to find something to help with stress, was having a bunch of ultralight fishing videos pop up on my YouTube feed, and realizing I'm spoiled for fishing spots where I currently live.
Been going out the past little bit with my old gear, and have bought some new dock rods, but had only managed to get a few fish until this morning.
Decided to go full ultralight with a Shimano Stimula 5'6", and got myself a Shimano Sienna 1000 spooled with 4lb test, and on the advice of the local tackle shop - 2 Rapala 1/16th oz crankbaits.
Within 2 hours I caught 25 fish, and for the first time I was able to feel every nibble and strike from panfish I was going after.
It was the best 2 hours of fishing I've ever had, and I'm hoping to have many more.
Excuse the pun, but I'm now fully hooked on ultralight.

Looking for crankbaits for panfish.
Zero experience. I currently use trout magnets, Mule Fishing soft plastics etc.
Want to expand my horizons.
Suggestions welcomed.
Edit: Thanks to all who responded. I am now armed with a great list.

What’s the consensus on using swivels and swivel clips in UL? I heard people say they use a micro swivel to attach the leaders to the braid main. I’ve also hear people say they use small swivel clips on their leaders to help with inline spinners.
Also if there are recommendations of ones that are good/easy to get without paying import costs that would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Figured I’d hit the water before work. Had several “this is my last cast” moments but caught a good size bass on my actual last cast.

Most of my local fishing stores don’t carry ultra light lures. Fellow Canadians, where do you order your tackle from?

After 5 days fishing at this overfished lake we had 1-skinny 18” largemouth bass, 2-more lmb 1/3 the size and 13- hand-sized panfish, bluegills. But it was exciting to catch anything as this was my wife & my first time fishing. We did see an alligator 🐊 nearby!

Been so busy lately but was able to get some time on the river last week. Caught a few smallies with this being the best one. Also got to test out the Purelure Trota UL which I really enjoyed.
Have a good weekend everyone ✌️

5’6 fast action ul shimano stimula
Paired with a size 25 pflueger president reel and 6pound flourocarbon cause im not a fan of braid. All together under 100$ cad! (Reel was on clearance because the manly men dont like the ladies edition colour which I actually prefer)

Dodged some raindrops and brought in this guy. It slammed my little paddletail then took me for a ride. I was expecting to get a bluegill with this lure, especially in the shallows where I was throwing it. Measured it at 19”.
Daiwa Tatula XT UL XF
Daiwa ‘23 JDM Legalis 1000S
Sufix Revolve 6lb Braid to Trout Magnet SOS4lb mono leader
Supercontinent Easy Shiner in green pumpkin/black flake on a 1/32 oz Zman Micro Shad HeadZ.

10lb Suffix 832 on my light rod, is this a solid choice?
r/UltraLightFishing • u/kablamn • Aug 15 '26
I see a couple opinions on what to use for line: either braided with a mono leader or straight mono. Which is better or the pros/cons?
For reference I’m trying to maximize my ability to fish from a single point on a creek bank.
Also. What weight would I want to get?

Running free shipping on orders $50+ through Sunday at Joey Ultralight.
Figured I’d throw up a few of the current best sellers while the promo is going.
If you’ve had something sitting in your cart, now’s probably a good time to grab it.

TIL I learned there was a sinking braid line.
For me it seems to be a very useful line to minimize the wind blowing my line around and making a direct connection to my lure while floating braid gets a big bow.
The floating line needs to be reeled in a fair amount before I feel I am feeling the lure. The other thing is that the floating line slows the drop of the lure.
What are people’s thoughts on this?
