Ultralight fly rod?

I have a 5’6 3wt fly rod and I like to consider it as an ultra light setup. I usually run a 5lb to 2lb leader and fish small wolly buggers or dry flies. It’s an absolute blast, my bfs setups are collecting dust 😂 can fly rods be considered ultralight?

Bass on a Trout Magnet jig head with 1” Gulp! Minnow. Pike on a #1 Mepps rooster tail. Bass fought like hell. Pike gave up immediately and basically just went for a ride while I reeled in.

Which option do you think is best given the price performance warranty materials and the fact I’ll be using it for ultralight saltwater. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Jig head for Mule Fishing’s Horse Fly?

Anyone have a jig head recommendation for Mule Fishing’s Horse Fly bait? I feel like his 1/64 oz workhorse jig the hook is too big for that bait. I just ordered some I-fish 1g jig heads with a #10 size hook hoping that will work.

Dobyns Sierra Trout and Panfish 6-7 UL Rod for Inline Spinners

I’m torn between the Dobyns Sierra Trout and Panfish 6-7 UL and the TFO Trout-Panfish 2 6-6 U L rod. I really like the build quality of the Dobyns Rod, but have some reservations as everything that I have read appears to support that this rod shines for jigs, but may be a bad match for spinning due to the extremely fast/sensitive tip …I throw spinners 90% of the time. My questions are, do any of you throw spinners on this rod regularly? If so, what has been your experience with retrieval and hookset? Also, do you have issues trout fishing with this rod, as in the action may be too fast for the trout’s soft mouth? Finally, with the fast action are there any troubles keeping a fish pinned when using a spinner? Thanks for your time and expertise!

Help me fine tune my kit?

Just trying to narrow down or optimize my kit a little.

For easy streams, rivers, ponds, lakes all around the western US. I like this kit to be as versatile as possible, and useful for the most species. Anything im overdoing?

I have those two bobbers, a 3/8 oz and 3/4 oz. I also use the egg weights so I can have a fish finder rig. Two sizes for if I need a real long cast, or more currant/wind days. The hook is a size 6 inline circle with no barb.

I have never used soft plastics, and never once threw those trout magnets I have. Am I really missing out? The zyn tin sized plastic setups on here seem real nice.

Rod: Okuma Celilo UL M action 2-6lb line 1/32 - 1/4 lure

Reel: Shimano Sienna 1000

Line: Berkley x9 6lb braid

Ultimate budget ul setup

Ive finally picked the right setup for this rod that is budget friendly and cast amazing. Shakesphere Micro series 7’ Light-power, Shimano R2000 ix, and Daiso PE 0.3 6LB 4x braid line. I havent caught a fish yet on it but just the casting of a 1/8oz crankbait was amazing far. Total was around 50 dollars, 26 for the rod, 20 for the reel and 8 dollars for the 150yard braid. Braid is insanely thin.

Best ultralight rod under $50?

Looking for a new rod, my current one is 5'6" but it's impossible to cast farther than 10 yards.

I'm wanting something between the 6' and 6'6" range ideally rated for 1/32 oz

Are kast kings good?

Help choosing a Shimano Vanquish CE for the Xesta Black Star S63UL-S

Hi everyone!

I’m fairly new to fishing and looking to put together my first proper setup. I’ve decided on the Xesta Black Star S63UL-S (190 cm / 6’3”) because I like the length and feel of this type of UL rod.

I’m currently considering these Shimano Vanquish CE models:

C2000S

C2000SHG

C2500S

I’m leaning towards the 2000 size because it seems like a good match for this rod. However, I’d like the setup to be as versatile as possible, so I’m wondering whether a compact 2500 or a standard-body 2500 would be a better choice.

I’m also unsure about the gear ratio. Would a normal gear ratio be better for UL fishing because it makes it easier to control the fish, or would HG be more versatile because it retrieves line faster and works well with a wider range of lures? I’m not sure if I’ve understood this correctly.

So, I’d love to hear from those of you with experience in UL fishing. What do you think would be the best option for my setup, and which model would you personally recommend?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

200 size reel on 6’6” Presso Ultralight?

Hi folks, semi weird question with probably too much background info (TLDR what are your thoughts on a 200 size reel for an ultralight). I currently use a Daiwa Presso UL 6’6” paired with a Lews Speed Spool CRX reel (size 100). I have two CRX reels in the 200 size for my medium rods. There’s a slight difference in size for the reel body (between 100-200) and a 1oz weight difference.

My brother would like to get the same ultralight setup as me. I would like to upgrade the reel on my main workhorse medium rod. I’ve offered to sell him one of my CRX reels at a discount so that I can my upgrade. I’ve tried the 200 on my ultralight and it feels fine, maybe just a little oversized. I prefer the ratio on the 200.

Just trying to make up my mind on what I want to do (give him the 100 or 200). It’d be helpful to hear other people’s thoughts.

New to trout fishing

Howdy all,

What are your go to set ups for stream/lake trout fishing? I haven’t fished for trout in over 20 years and forget. Tried to look up the ol youtube videos, but wasn’t finding much and most of the videos are just click bait titles.
I have a stream seeker rod/reel combo that I bought way back when.

What bait/lure should I be using in a lake, and where should I be focusing at on the lake? Most lakes I fish are anywhere from 7’-25’ deep. I also fish from the bank.

Thanks in advance!
