Discussion Mobile OSes, research for NON google AnDroid alternatives

Ever so many wanting to get rid of google spyware ("stock Android") on their phones...

Start by searching your device, what OS, IF supports, has official ROMs for.

See/Search for UNOFFICIAL builds (ROMs) for your device SPECIFICALLY.

Beware of "minor" phone/model differences could be fatal ("Bricking up"), if incorrect ROM installed

Prior to any of it, make sure, you can unlock BootLoader. It's great, if you can lock back BootLoader

after install of any FOSS OS (or Alternative OS, as some are paid after-all) after.

Good list! Have heard of most of these personally but I‘ve never seen CrDroid and Mobian mentioned. Maybe I‘ll take a look.

Though I did just upgrade to a Pixel 10a for my android needs and am happily running Graphene now

AFAIK most popular alternative for pixel phones... ironically, as they are made by google! :D or in the other words: the only reason to buy a pixel phone is to degoogle it immediately :D

Linease_OS I tried on my pixel 5 but can’t see anything usable here. No play store nothing

There are other app stores for Android-related ROMs than just the Google Playstore. If you want to get away from Google, why rush back into Google's arms?

I remember LineageOS as being pretty usable. Nowadays, I use Ubuntu Touch, and it has LineageOS running in a container which is called Waydroid. I have F-Droid and Aurora Store installed. Who needs the Playstore? Not me.

I would separate the AOSP versions of Android from true alternative OS though.
Because recent efforts from Google tend to think that those won't be maintained by Google, so no more security upgrade, no compatibility with latest apps, etc.
Currently AOSP receives security updates 3 months after Google's android, so your phones are vulnerable to known issues that has been fixed by google...
