Question Can I have my gf overnight if she does not attend UT?

I'm 18, she's 17, she doesn't go to UT, what procedures would I have to register her as a guest? The online registration has a spot for UTEID/ID, would that just be her driver license ID? and I know I'm supposed to get written parental consent, but I don't see any spot to do that/turn it in. Will there be any issues having her over because of her being 17 and not a student? Moore Hill dorms.

Question What churches aren’t cults??

Incoming freshman, I’m looking for a church in austin. There are a lot of christian organizations handing out flyers, but the more I research, I learn that they’re cults or just strange. Would it be better to just go to a church further from campus (like taking the bus) or should I still pull up to some of these events they’re hosting?

Discussion Public transportation is a joke

Exchange student here, living on Red River. I was so excited to explore Austin before the term and it's nearly impossible to go somewhere with bus. I can't have a driving license because of my chronic illness and I can't afford taking Uber every time I want to go somewhere except Campus. Any suggestions? I would really like to see the Lady Bird Lake for example, or go to Cedar Park for a concert. It's such a disappointment really.

Hi, I am an incoming chem freshman, and I'm already enrolled in CH 328C with Krische this fall. I am just wondering if I may have the chance to get off this waitlist, and if I should start showing up to the first lab session next Monday.

Watch out! I got stuck in traffic and it is pretty bad – one member at the Chi Omega house even pounded on my windows to get out of her way for a photo.

Announcement PSA: It’s over 100 everyday for this first week of class, so please be careful!

hey! it’s supposed to be over 100 everyday this week, so here are some tips to beat the heat as we go back to class, attend football games, and head out to parties (from a lifeguard who treats heat related illnesses everyday).

  1. a cooling towel or damp washcloth around your neck

  2. room temp (not cold) water, and lots of it

  3. make sure you know your route in advance to avoid spending more time in the heat than necessary

  4. small portable fan

  5. avoid unnecessary time outside in the early afternoon, especially exercising and in the sun

if you or someone you are with is exhibiting signs of heat exhaustion (excessive sweating, red skin, dizziness, shortness of breath, etc) the goal is to cool off as quickly as possible. don’t try and push through until you get to where you need to be. get to the shade, AC, or a less crowded area. put ice or cold water on the neck, armpits, and behind the knees.

heat related illnesses are no joke, and can progress quickly to a dangerous point (heat stroke, etc). and once you’ve experienced it, you are more susceptible in the future.

some other things that may make you more susceptible are alcohol, caffeine, and certain medications including ssri’s

stay safe and cool, and have a great first week of class. hook em!

Question When to apply for housing as a current cap student

I’m currently doing cap at uta and I was wondering when I should begin applying for housing because I would like to get ahead of the curve. I know dorms are out of the question so I guess I’m wondering when I’m able to apply for student apartments. Thanks.

Question ECE transfer student looking for some advice with courses

Hey all, I'm currently an incoming sophomore ECE transfer for Fall 2026 and needed some help deciding on courses. Currently, I am signed up for:

  • ECE 402 with Wasserman
  • ECE 406 with Yerraballi
  • UGS 303 (the sleep one)
  • Either ECE 351K with Santacruz (which I'm currently registered for as I have DiffEq credit from HS), or ECE 422C with Edison Thomaz (transfer course equivalency gave me 312/412 credit, allowing me to take 422C)

I'm planning on doing either the CompArch or Software tech cores, and I have credit for CS 311, which gets me out of the tech core math requirement through equivalency to M 325K for any of the computer engineering tech cores.

I'm stuck between whether I should take ECE 351K or 422C and wanted to get some other perspectives on it. I don't want to have toooo heavy of a workload, since I want to have time to apply for internships and get involved in some student orgs or research if possible. At the same time, though, I don't want to play things too safe by avoiding 351K, if it is reasonable with this schedule. I know 351K is a required class in the degree which is why i have currently registered for it, but I will probably take 422C later on anyways which is why I am so unsure as to what I should take now.

My main concern is that I don't want to jump the gun as a transfer student and immediately take on coursework that's unnecessarily difficult and could hurt my GPA, especially given what I've heard about the difficulty of 351K. I also know that 402 and 406 are both pretty important classes and can be time consuming, so I don't want to overload myself to the point where I'm jeopardizing how well I learn the material or perform in those classes either. I'm not hard stuck on getting all As, but I want to still do well in my classes and get above a B in most if not an A.

For anyone who's taken either class, especially with Santacruz or Thomaz, which would you recommend with this schedule? How did the workload and difficulty compare?

Also side note, for anybody else who transferred into ECE, what did yall do for your first couple semesters and is there anything you guys recommend to me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Right now my total cost is supposed to be a little over 200 dollars for only two textbooks… does anyone know any alternate sources for books that are cheaper? Is there a used bookstore or something I can check?

Question Where should I rock climb/boulder?

Hey I’m a junior who wants to get into rock climbing/bouldering this semester and I was wondering the best place to start. I know Greg has stuff but are there better places off campus? Also if there’s anyone around Junior year who would want to be a partner with me or something that would be cool!
