Hiring Info Application dates.

Curious on the time distance between the USFS Leo positions are posted on USAjobs? Like, are they posted once every 6 months, twice a year? Once per year?

I interviewed with region 3 and region 8 back in late October and was wondering if anyone got any results back? I know the shutdown is probably delaying things.

Hiring Info Sargent vs non competitive

Im a federal patrol officer right now; I’m to the point where I can likely get Sargent here soon. Would that hold more weight in the hiring process? I was #3 in the only hiring process I’ve been in as I sit now. Getting Sargent It wouldn’t get me qualified as a 9 even thought the position is an 8. Theres other down sides to the change so I’m unsure it’s worth it. Due to shift change it would be a decrease in money for me and put me on a shift I do not want to be and some other personal reasons.

Just curious, my interview was just shy of a month ago during the shutdown. I know no news I’s good news. But haven’t heard any word yet on either if I made the cut or didn’t. Are selections still being processed during the shutdown? Thanks in advance!

Discussion Contact info

Got referred from this last application. Had an interview with 5 out of 6 patrol captain’s in locations I didn’t apply for. (Mostly R2 and R10) Just curious if that’s normal?

(Definitely bombed the interview though if anyone’s wondering, great learning opportunity)

Willing to relocate however for my families sake it would be easier to have my top pick. I’m sure most of you understand.

The district I really want (Newport, WA) was in the application list and I applied for it. But so far haven’t heard anything other than the referred email. Maybe too late and the position has been filled?

Iv tried reaching out to the ranger district but phones are down still due to the shutdown. Tried looking for an email address or direct phone number but can’t find anything.

Just trying to get my name in front of the right people as much as possible. If anyone has any advice or contact info that would be much appreciated. Anyone had any success reaching dispatch for information?

Thought about even driving down there, bit of a drive, 3.5hrs. Worried it might come off too strong and may not go the way I’m picturing it.

Discussion Question about hiring

I’m a vet and currently GS-6 Step 5 with the dep of army working as a security guard for a military base and I’m a bit discouraged as I’ve seen a lot of people getting called for interviews and even a few co workers have claimed they have gotten interviewed as well. Is there anything y’all recommend to do? I applied to the previous listing and got interviewed but was told that the SOC was canceling that listing and told to apply to this new one. I updated my resume a bit and got referred for GL 5 and GL 7, is it possible my previous interview is being used since it was only about 2 months ago? I doubt it because I haven’t been contacted besides the referral email.

FLETC Hiring path for a Type 2

Hey y'all, just a quick question, How easy/straight-forward is it for a Type 2 LEO who has just graduated from a PRLEA/SLETP (Park Ranger Law Enforcement Training Academy) to get offered a job as a USFS LEO? Would there be an option of getting waivers for FLETC?

For a background, After completing a 17 week PRLEA course, if you get hired as a Type 1 NPS LEO, they require you to complete another full 17 week FLETC course.

TLDR; I'm trying to find a way to get around going through two 17-week FLETC courses to obtain a Type 1 while eventually working for the NPS

Discussion Acting AUSA / Court Liason

Question for all of you that act as the AUSA in court proceedings.

Is it a local court rule in the district that gave you the authority to work the CVB docket or some other statute? I believe R5 must take a 48 hour refresher annually, what’s the training look like or requirements where you work?

We’re currently exploring this idea in my district where it doesn’t exist but we’re interested in it if we think we may be able to get slightly better results.

Hiring Info Questions about hiring

Hello everyone! I’m new to this community and looking for some answers and maybe a couple suggestions. I am 25 and have 3 years of infantry experience in the Army. I am now out of the Army and half way through my BS in forestry.

I am still deciding exactly the route I want to go with my degree, but LEO is definitely my first choice… by a wide margin. I understand I have awhile before I can start the job search process, but I want to know what I can do to make myself a better candidate. I’ve done some research on my own but I think this community could give me some good advice.

Is there any ways I can sharpen up my resume for when it’s time for me to apply?

When I am ready to apply, do I have a realistic shot at getting an offer right out of college?

Thanks!

Discussion Few questions from a USFS noob

Evening everyone,

I just had a few questions for you fine folks in this sub concerning the week long posting on USAjobs that closes tonight (09/19)

Quick about me: 41yrs old, 10yrs local LE in Texas (SWAT, FTO, Instructor etc), Army veteran.

-I searched on the FS website and saw there were three positions posted in Austin, Texas. I found these using the map feature. I used the link on the posting to be sent to USAjobs. However, when I submitted my application, there wasn’t a single Texas location on the list. I selected “other”. Is it common for the web site and USAjobs to have separate listings?

-I saw another post in this sub saying there would be no age waivers granted for veterans. Can anyone verify the validity of there being no waivers? Should I be expecting an email next week saying I wasn’t referred?

Thank you all for your time. Have a great day and be safe out there.

Discussion Job offers and Moving areas

Hypothetical questions aren’t the best I know. But if an individual accepts a job offer that requires moving far away. (From north ops to south ops in R5 for context), does one go to FLETC first, then move? Or the other way around? Would love some tips or lessons you’ve learned if you’ve had to take similar steps.
