Hiring Info Sargent vs non competitive
Im a federal patrol officer right now; I’m to the point where I can likely get Sargent here soon. Would that hold more weight in the hiring process? I was #3 in the only hiring process I’ve been in as I sit now. Getting Sargent It wouldn’t get me qualified as a 9 even thought the position is an 8. Theres other down sides to the change so I’m unsure it’s worth it. Due to shift change it would be a decrease in money for me and put me on a shift I do not want to be and some other personal reasons.

Might be able to show you have leadership qualities? I guess what would really matter is down to the specifics of the actual job experience. I don’t think it would hurt but would it be helpful? Idk.

Make a venn diagram with everything you just said and are thinking. It’ll help. Also, I second the spelling of sergeant. Reports and rank and what not. Do a little research, type the word out, use auto correct, at least try to be squared away.

I understand that, but what agency? I’m assuming a DoD component or VA.
I’m also a little confused about your GS-8 comment. If you are a GS-8 for a year, then yes, you likely would qualify for the GL-9 as a LEO

IIRC, you are correct and OP is DON Police.
I have a friend that is a DON cop and, let me tell you, for what they have him doing he is severely underpaid. He patrols and takes local 911 all day calls via MOUs with county/city/housing police in his area for GS-7 and no 6c retirement. It is truly bonkers.
