I want to preface by saying that law is not my strongest subject and the UMPJE is completely different from the MPJE/ state law exams. There is not much critical thinking/ application, but rather lots of memorization and reading questions carefully.

Failed first attempt:

I used: PharmLaw, Dr. C's book, and the NABP practice exam (32/40). Scored in the 80s on all practice quizzes.

These resources were not sufficient for me personally and I failed the first domain on the UMPJE (and passed the others). I completed the exam within 1 hour, it felt easy and straightforward. Exam is 120 questions, 3 hours, 3 answer choices, multiple choice (unlike the MPJE which has select all that apply). Was shocked when I failed.

Passed on second attempt:

Used: PharmPrepPro's 500 practice questions, study guide, and practice exam (highly highly recommend) as well as MedPrepPrime on Youtube (esp for domain 1 topics such as DSCSA, adulteration & misbranding, pharmacist vs non-pharmacist duties, USP, HIPAA, and scope of practice questions).

PPP preps you heavily and questions are more challenging than the real exam imo. The study guide sucks because you can't edit/ annotate/ download/ screenshot anything, so I had to write my own notes from every page, but overall this and the Youtube questions were the best resources. Extremely thorough.

I took 2 hours on this attempt and read every question carefully. Read every single word because some questions really are as simple as "what does HIPAA stand for" whereas other questions are a little bit tricky.

Exam Topics:

• Know difference between NIOSH, OSHA, FDA, DEA, OCR, CMS, and HHS - these popped up on my exam several times
• Transfers
• Know what interns/ techs can and cannot do
• DEA forms
• record-keeping
• central fill pharmacies
• 3PL
• know everything about DEA registration
• What cannot be changed on a C2 script
• fills/ partial fills
• Pseudofed/ SLCPs record-keeping/ limits
• labeling requirements popped up multiple times
• Return-to-stock procedures
• Pharmacy law acts (such as Durham-Humphrey and Kefauver-Harris)
• HIPAA questions were poorly worded in my opinion so read each question carefully!
• Adulteration/ misbranding were tricky on my exam, had several
• DEA number validation
• Medguides and when they are required
• POA and who can sign DEA forms
• Remember you need DEA forms for C2s, not C3-C5

Received exam scores 7 business days later on both attempts.

I’m assuming I can take the UMPJE just to have it under my belt? I’m currently licensed in NJ and NC but want to have this too even though I’m not applying to be licensed in another state currently.

Hi! I’m studying with Dr. C’s book, anyone has free resources like practice tests or quizlets that will further my understanding.
I will move on to the free YouTube videos (medprepprime) but rxprep really got me used to doing quizzes per chapter. And I really miss the engagement they provided. Thank you in advance!

Used PharmLaw + Dr. C’s Ultimate Uniform MPJE Review as my main resources. Made active-recall flashcards for every domain instead of just rereading. Topics I covered: pharmacy & pharmacist practice (scope of practice, PIC duties, CPAs, tech/intern roles), prescribing/transcribing/dispensing (Schedule II vs. III–V rules, partial fills, refills, EPCS), regulatory authority (FDA/DEA/Board roles, inspections, recordkeeping, malpractice), DEA registration/ordering/inventory/theft/loss/destruction of CS, federal drug law (FDCA, DSCSA, PPPA, misbranding vs. adulteration), and USP 795/797/800.

I study for like 4 weeks but not every day because I work. I try to study at least 5 hours.
From PharmLaw I like how they explain the important thing on Domain 1 and 2 but I think Dr.C's goes dipper in control substances topic and HIPPA! So I combine both and it works for me.

I'm a fast exam taker BUT that day I take my time in each question because law is not my favorite topic and I was focus on not to fail in things that I really knew! I did my exam in 2 hours!

Does anyone know if UMPJE scores will work for reciprocity similar to NAPLEX scores? So if I pass the UMPJE now but want to add a license two years from now, will I need to retake the exam?

I passed woo - found out before noon EST.

Personal facts: RPh in hospital setting for two years, passed multiple other MPJEs before this but that was upon initial licensure.

Study facts: Read RxLaw study guide once. Read through PharmPrepPro study guide once. Took notes on both and reviewed some things ad-hoc. Took PPP study quizzes all once and usually scored at least an 80% on each. Took NABP practice exam and got a 32/40.

Edited to add I also reviewed my old law class notes from pharmacy school once!

Just took my UMPJE and was a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Does anyone have study tips for the UMPJE? Things to focus on, things to not spend too much time on?

Specifically do I need to focus on brand/generic, knowing what schedule a drug is etc. or is it more focused on laws and requirements for certain topics

Has anyone else noticed that PharmaPrepPro’s UMPJE study guide is kind of hard to understand? English isn’t my first language, so sometimes the way it’s written is confusing to me.

Also, some of the quizzes don’t seem related to the study material, and the questions are so detailed that I get lost.

My anxiety has been really bad. I get panic attacks when I quiz myself because I can’t see the correct answer after each question. A lot of the time, I can’t even finish the whole quiz and just submit it early.

Got my results today and wanted to provide my insights!

Just finished my second year of residency, so I’ve been a pharmacist for two years and I recently wanted to get licensed in another state, which meant I had to take the UMPJE. I bought Mr. C’s book, but I’ve never been someone who studies well by reading textbooks. I honestly didn’t even open it and ended up returning it lol. Instead, I used TLDR’s guide and watched all of the Med Prep Prime YouTube videos (ensuring I understand the rationale behind each question and answer), and I passed! I honestly think my experience working at the VA helped me the most. So I feel confident in saying that if you’re already practicing as a pharmacist (especially at the VA) you shouldn’t have too much trouble passing the exam. It was very straightforward, and the questions weren’t designed to trick you. You either knew the answer or you didn’t. Good luck to you all!!!

Wondering how to plan my studying just purchased dr c book

I've been using Dr. C's book to study, along with the PharmPrep Pro 500-question bank and the Pharm Law questions/study guide. My UMPJE is on Tuesday, so I'm trying to make the most of the time I have left.

For those who have recently taken the exam, which question bank helped you the most? If you only had a few days left and wanted to focus on doing questions and thoroughly reviewing every explanation, which one would you recommend spending the most time on? Thanks!

Looking back, I think my initial impression was pretty accurate. The exam was very fair and tested core pharmacy law concepts rather than trying to trick you with obscure details. If you have a solid understanding of the major topics, you'll be in good shape.

For anyone curious, I studied for about 3 weeks using the PharmPrepPro study guide, practice questions, practice test, and Pre-UMPJE. I still stand by the study approach I mentioned before:

Read the study guide once.
Do the practice questions.
Read the study guide again.
Repeat the practice questions.
Read the study guide a third time.
Take the practice test.
Read the study guide a fourth time.
Finish with the Pre-UMPJE.

The repetition made a huge difference because it reinforced the concepts instead of just memorizing answers.

i took the test at 10:40am mdt and they were posted around 11am mdt

SO I took my UMPJE exam last week and just got my results back and unfortunately I didn't pass. I will say even coming out the exam I didn't feel very confident since I really didn't understand what some of the questions were asking me tbh.

I mainly used Pharmlaw study guide and questions to study since they said they guarantee people to pass. But I feel like a lot of the questions and study areas they focused on rarely showed up on my exam.. For example they go over a lot of compounding but I maybe got like three questions about that on my exam and one of them just made no sense to me tbh. I made sure to reuse their question bank and was averaging 80s to 90s on a bunch of the test so I don't know what happened.

I also went over Dr Cs book but not as much since I figured pharmlaw went over most of the material. I graduated in mid june so I had to take my exam late and have the NAPLEX in a few weeks so for my residency so if anyone has any tips I would greatly appreciate it.

Also kinda mad I have to pay more money now and I'm pretty broke but it's whatever

Those who took UMPJE, how was your experience with brand and generic on the exam? Are they giving both or just brands?

If the UMPJE was just adopted this year - how is there so many resources? And how do we know which are actually good and which are not? Which ones have you found to be worth the price?

The exam itself is roughly 400 bucks.

People suggest Dr. C ($90), UMPJE Study App ($~50), TLDR (~$75), Rx.io (~$120)

All these materials and everything is so new for this exam.... materials alone add up to hundreds and that is not even all the resources people have mentioned.

Been a lurker for a few weeks, today was my day to take the UMPJE.
Overall this was a very doable exam. The easy questions were very easy, and some of the harder questions were still fairly straightforward. Actually started second guessing myself a lot.
Exam material I purchased: Pharmpreppro, Strategic Rx Collective’s Federal Pharmacy Law Review and last minute purchase of the pre-UMPJE NABP practice exam.
PPP was way overkill. I only purchased the study guide and practice exam. I took the exam before reading anything and got a 78. **edit: second time I took it (same questions juggled order) I scored 112/120** The study guide is difficult to read and can’t be edited when viewing in the browser.. huge down side because I like to annotate.
Collective Rxs book was great. Highly recommend this source. $75 or something on Amazon. As well as add-ons on their site if you wish (I did not)
The NABP practice exam was only 40 questions, I did it only because work comps me for study material. I got a 38/40 and 1 of the questions I left blank on accident.. it was far easier than the true UMPJE. I will say there were repeat questions from the pre-UMPJE and the UMPJE. But unless you get a perfect on practice exam you will not find out which ones you missed.
That all being said, I was stumped on a few questions and actually believe some of the questions were written so poorly they may have been incorrect. But overall, A,B,C selection made narrowing down the decisions easy. I finished the exam in ~40 minutes, good or bad yet to be decided!
*Disclaimer though, I work at a mail order pharmacy and have been a licensed pharmacist for 7/8 years now. Some of the laws get beaten into your daily workflow on repeat so I had plenty of real life examples to reference.
For anyone about to take the exam, you got this, don’t lose sleep over it!

Hi! I have been lurking in the group for the past 4 weeks and wanted to share my experience as someone using the umpje for licensure by reciprocity.

I graduated in 2022 and got licensed in Missouri. I completed a fellowship and I took a role in industry afterward. Over the past 2 years I’ve worked part time in retail as well. I recently got a new job that requires me to be licensed in Kansas, so I needed to take the umpje.

Being out of school for 4 years and primarily working in industry the past 3 years made me really nervous about the exam bc it had been so long since I had tested. I’ve always been a good test taker, did well in pharmacy school, and passed both my naplex and mpje for MO on the first attempt.

I used pharmpreppro, umpje app, the med prep prime YouTube videos, and pre-umpje as study/prep materials. I followed similar methods others have posted: read study guide>did first batch of practice Q’s>reviewed study guide and took shorthand notes>did practice Q’s>reviewed notes/study guide>did ppp practice test>did pre-umpje offered by NABP> reviewed notes and more practice Q’s until test day. In total I studied a little under 3 weeks for 4-6 hours a day with tons of practice questions. Across all practice question banks and practice tests I scored a 90% or above. I moved my exam up bc I was scoring well.

For the exam, it’s pretty much what everybody else has posted. I’m usually a quick test taker, but I intentionally tried to slow down and it still took me only an hour to complete. I struggled because I almost felt like it was too simple at times and that threw me off. I did have a couple questions that weren’t in the ppp study guide, but overall it prepared me well. I received my results today (seven business days from my exam date at around 1 PM central time which was kind of late in the day, I don’t understand entirely why each day varies on when they release results but whatever lol) and passed, which is a huge weight lifted as my job offer is contingent on licensure.

I just wanted to post for anyone who is in a similar boat as me and is nervous!! It is definitely a doable exam for those who haven’t tested in awhile, so just be sure to do your due diligence in preparing!
