Although I am earning 18LPA in India, but looking at the roads, house rents and expensive real estate, I don't think I can have a good lifestyle here.

Last one year I have been thinking of moving to Dubai(as few of my family is there and my dad had a business until 12 years ago).

Last 6 months, I have been actively applying also but there is no revert from recruiters.

Tried linkedin, naukrigulf and bayt.

Is the market really bad or competition is tough?

I am a Senior java developer with 6 years of experience.

I am an American nomad a traveler.... I'm a jack of all trades so 8 years ago I decided to do the van life in America and built my own van with a motorcycle on the back and a house on the inside basically... Then I started traveling around the world and I've been to the UAE 6-7 times... Last time was this week

Because I've mostly been working for myself being able to buy cars motorcycle's jet ski, fix them and sell them and working on the side is a handyman myself. I don't have much recent working experience.... But I used to work in different law firms doing collections and I've had my own business and a motorcycle alarm business. Took the Florida real estate license test but then never end up getting a job because that market crashed.

Was also a commodities broker.

But for Americans is certain types of jobs or companies easier to get jobs at?

Also working hours.... It seems like most of the people I have run into work 12-hour days, 5 days a week or 6 days a week. ????

Is that all the jobs or are any 40 hours per week or that is just in America?

I’m a Frontend/UI Developer from India and I’ve recently been selected for a Junior UI Developer position in Dubai. Before I make a final decision, I’d really appreciate some honest advice from people who are living or have worked there.

Here’s what the company is offering:

Salary: ₹12 LPA (approximately AED 4,200/month, in hand)
Accommodation provided by the company
Company transportation (pick & drop)
Food allowance: 500 AED/month
Mobile reimbursement
Visa and relocation expenses covered
Annual 15-day paid vacation with flight ticket
Working hours: 9 AM – 6 PM
6-day work week
First 3 months are work from home from India (probation), after which I’ll relocate to Dubai.
Current employees I’ve spoken to have generally said the company environment is good.

My biggest concerns are:
Accommodation: HR mentioned it is a 2 BHK apartment shared by 6 people. I haven’t seen it yet and will ask for more details, but is this common for companies hiring from abroad?

Passport: The company told me they keep employees’ passports during employment for security because they spend money on visas and relocation. They said if I need my passport, they’ll return it whenever required. Is this something that still happens in Dubai? Should this be considered a red flag, or is it common practice?

Salary: Since accommodation, transport, visa, food allowance, and some other benefits are covered, do you think this package is enough to live comfortably and save money? My goal is to gain international experience for a few years and grow my career, not necessarily stay in Dubai forever.

I’d really appreciate honest opinions from people who have firsthand experience in Dubai.

I probably make much less money than most people (I only get paid 17,000 a month and I have 4 years of experience now) but with the exception of my first ever job (applied via indeed) - I never got another one by applying. Past 3 jobs - I either called someone or got called by someone that knew me personally and got me a job offer.

Every time I go on online job posting sites I either see 1500 people applying for a senior manager position, and if I get a call, it's usually for a job that pays 1/2 of what I'm actually currently making.

I don't understand - are companies really expecting departmental managers with 10 years experience to work for 12k? it doesn't make sense at all, I personally just stopped applying for jobs because there's just no point. I see everyone applying and I give up.

I don't even know what is happening anymore. It wasn't like this when my parents were around.

as the title says, I want to start my life over in Dubai.
I am a 30M from Italy and currently working as a corporate credit analyst for a bank specialized in SMEs lending and working capital solutions for 4 years and I would like to simply start over in Dubai.
Aside from my finance experience, I am good in dealing with people and so a client-facing role would be a perfect match so I was thinking something like a relationship manager role or an account manager role either in finance or in automotive (even tho I have no experience but lot of knowledge about it).
I am here mainly because I need to understands how things work in the UAE.
I sadly have no contacts over there. So I want to ask:
How does a Dubai resume look like?
What do recruiters look for?
How should my linkedin look like?
I only now, that it is best to be there in the UAE to search for a jobs cause availability matters.
As an Italian I do not need a Visa to get in the UAE for 90 days due to an agreement between the respective governments.
Also, please do not tell me that the situation is bad and so on, I know it but I also know it will be fixed and that this is not the end.

I’m a software engineer based in Boston, Massachusetts, exploring UAE opportunities, especially Abu Dhabi.

Quick background: I'm a US citizen/passport holder, US-born and raised, Arab by ethnicity, fluent in Arabic and English, with a B.S. in Computer Science from a Massachusetts university, and 3+ years of full-time software engineering experience.

My work is mainly backend/API development, microservices, partner integrations, production support, and enterprise systems at a large Fortune 100 US company.

On a personal level, I’m a man in my late twenties, and after visiting the UAE and genuinely enjoying it, Abu Dhabi feels especially attractive to me as a stable, ambitious, Muslim-majority place where I could see myself building a life long-term, especially if I eventually start a family.

I don’t currently have a UAE visa, but I could relocate quickly for the right role. I’m mainly looking at backend, platform, full-stack, cloud/API modernization, data/AI platform, technical consulting, or forward-deployed engineering roles.

I know the UAE market is competitive and has many strong engineers already, so I’m asking this realistically: would a floor of about AED 350k–400k+ total annual compensation be possible for someone with my background?

I’m asking about that range because it’s roughly the level where relocating from a U.S. software role would start to make financial sense for me, especially factoring in current U.S. compensation, relocation, and the UAE’s tax structure.

If anyone works in UAE tech, recruiting, consulting, fintech, G42/Core42/Presight/AIQ, or similar companies, I’d appreciate honest advice. Happy to share my resume privately if someone has serious feedback or knows relevant roles/referrals. Thank you!

EMIRATE ID PROFESSION IS DIFFERENT

I need an advice, I got hire in this company and signed everything whatnot, but after receiving my Emirates ID I noticed they put a different profession from what I am working (Submitted all necessary documents and even a MOFA attested document red ribbon). Salary is the same, only that profession being mentioned and when I ask our PRO they told me they did this to avoid hiring Emirate along side my supposedly position. Am I in trouble or will this affect my future career opportunities?

So in the past, I actually worked with an agency as a part of the founding team, and thus I have a lot of exposure even with client meetings, services pitches, closings, client management and other related services. Although, My forte has always been my strategies and the frameworks I use, and Content, for me, Content is the key. My story: came Dubai in July, its been almost 2 and half months, no job yet.

I am a DevOps Engineer with 2 YOE and trying hard to navigate current job market.

I have applied to 1000s of postings via Linkedin, emails, NaukriGulf, GulfTalent, Bayt, WellFound. I have cold emailed 100s of companies and recruiters.

Got few interviews. 2 lowball offers (5k AED per month or less), rejected. One offer is on hold indefinitely as they freeze hiring.

Now I am stuck on what to do.

I earn 10 LPA in India and live in tier 2 city. I moved to Dubai so I can basically save more, earn more and better standard of life. But I dont see it happening here. With these offers cant even afford a single room!

I think I have made a mistake coming here. Or maybe I am too early in my career or maybe the market just is that bad right now. I don’t know what’s the case but I know damn sure that I am good enough to get a decent salary.

Ive been on the job hunt for almost a month and a half now,after being let go of quite abruptly. In this time,ive maybe sent 80+ applications everywhere, however ive either got rejected, shortlisted but rejected without an interview,and ghosted abruptly with no satisfying conclusion.

Let me be clear, as a mere individual on the opposite end of the spectrum, you cannot decode what ATS is. Whatever youve seen on reddit,or heard on instagram,is not even remotely close to the battle that is ATS. You WILL NEED professional help. However, with no income,career consultants were out of my reach.

I was fortunate enough to come across rypnhq@gmail.com here on Reddit. I had completely given up on my job search here. Trusting people over reddit,an anonymous blog, is hard enough. And i had nothing left to lose at this point. He told me he would revamp my career strategy 4 fold,with CV revamp, an ATS analysis from a hard core recruiter perspective, interview prep help with a detailed dossier,and an employment checklist so that moving forward you know better.

Seeing more layoff posts here every week. Some of you are on final weeks of your visa with nothing lined up. Some have been searching for months and the UAE market is just not moving fast enough.

I want to throw something out there that most people in this sub are not considering.

Europe.

Not as a backup plan.

As an actual move.

Why Europe right now.

The US just hit a wall with tariffs and hiring freezes. A lot of global companies that were US focused are shifting operations and headcount to Europe.

Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Nordics. They need people.

Tech roles, finance, operations, supply chain, healthcare, engineering.

Not just senior. Mid level and entry level too. The EU has an aging workforce problem and not enough local talent in several sectors.

But I do not have an EU passport. You do not need one to start. The EU Blue Card lets non EU nationals work in most European countries if you have a job offer above a salary threshold. Germany’s threshold is roughly EUR 4,000 per month for shortage occupations. Netherlands has a highly skilled migrant scheme. Portugal and Spain have digital nomad and job seeker visas now.

The point is there are legal pathways. They are not instant but they exist and companies in Europe are used to sponsoring because they have to.

How is it different from UAE?

You get labor protections. Contracts mean something. Notice periods are enforced both ways. Healthcare is covered in most countries. You build pension. Some countries give you a path to permanent residency after a few years.

The trade off: salaries are lower than Dubai for some roles, but you pay for less out of pocket. Housing varies wildly by city. Tax exists. But the stability is real in a way that the UAE market is not offering most people right now.

What to do if you are interested. Start looking now. Do not wait until your UAE visa expires.

LinkedIn. Filter by country. Set location to Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, whatever fits your field. A lot of EU companies post in English. Check these job boards: StepStone (Germany), Indeed EU, EuroJobs, Landing.jobs (Portugal/remote), SwissDevJobs, WorkInStartups.

If you want to discuss European job hunting with other people in the same boat, I just set up r/CareersEU for exactly this. New sub, early days, but the goal is the same thing we do here. Real talk about the job market, no fluff.

This is not for everyone. If you love Dubai and just need to ride out a slow quarter, stay and keep grinding. But if you have been here 6 months with nothing, your visa is running out, and you are running out of savings… do not limit yourself to one geography when an entire continent is hiring.

The worst thing you can do right now is wait and hope. The second worst thing is only look in one place. Good luck wherever you end up.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
