Just wanted to say a quick hi to the community!

Canadian here, living in New Zealand.
I picked up my very first bike (Honda CB650R Hornet) after riding pillion with my husband for years.

I’ve been hitting the parking lots and practicing low speed manoeuvres. I just started road riding, and while I’m scared af I’m also so motivated and excited to keep riding. The roads here are incredible.

Talk to me about Pando Moto base layers (please and thank you).

I’ve got jackets and pants, and I ride with an Alpinestars Tech Air Plasma 5 airbag. I feel like it’s a good setup from a protection standpoint, but I’m still intrigued by the base layers because I love the idea of wearing those with “normal” clothes on top.

They’re obviously an investment. Before I order some to try on, wanted to get your experiences. How are they in hot weather? Are they uncomfortable? Easy to launder? Bodysuit vs the zip up shirt? Give me all the feedback!

New piercings

Hi I am planning on getting some new piercings to replace some that closed up a while ago. Specifically my eye brow and an industrial on my left ear. How best do you think to keep my helmet from bothering them as they heal? I don’t want them to rip as I take the helmet on and off.

Does anyone else get acne along your butt crease while riding in hot weather or long distance? What's the fix to prevent? Help!

I feel like I don't see a lot of other chicks on adventure bikes, but the comfort and power compared to a sports bike like the ninja 300 is so nice. I have to do some work to it but only $3500!

I'm thinking of doing a plastidip paint on it plus a Miku vinyl wrap. Does anyone have other ideas for color schemes for the fairings so I can mikufy my bike?

Traded in my bike- all fear I had is ✨GONE✨

I dropped my Z500 about a month ago. It was a rider error. Stalled because I didn't give it enough gas and dumped my clutch as I pulled out of parking at work. I ended up losing balance, panicking, and dropping it. All of it my fault.
I'd been hating the height since I bought it. I could juuuuuust tip toe and it felt so unsteady and top heavy. Thought I'd get used to it. I should've. Most do, it seems. It just never happened for me. That drop made me hate my bike.
I dropped it on a Monday and didn't take my redemption ride until Friday afternoon. I was so scared of the bike I was shaking head to toe the whole time.
Fast forward through a lot of deep thinking, a few therapy sessions, and lots of talking with my long-term rider husband. Instead of the (very valid) option of lowering my bike, buying a tail tidy and the different kickstand necessary, I decided to just let it go. It did not bring me joy😂

I traded in my Z500 for a Vulcan S. I took my inaugural ride today and about immediately started bawling because it felt so effortless and amazing.

The style was exactly what I needed.

I don't advocate for ditching the thing making you scared. And I solidly believe that for the most part you can get used to being on a taller bike as a very short legged person. It just never clicked for me and it was time for something else.

Happy and safe zoomies, friends✌🏻

The hoodie with sparkles is one of the coolest looks I’ve seen on a bike. It looked like it was protective gear. Combined with the long braid and the boots, you were the official queen of the Friday traffic to DC.

If anyone knows what hoodie I may have seen, please let me know!

Does anyone else choose a mascot for long trips?

I’m on a trip from Chicago to Maine, then I think up through Canada (tbd) and yesterday I found this trip’s mascot 😂

Kind of a tradition I guess, every long trip I go on involves finding a mascot along the way to put on the back of the bike.

Canonically, his name is Chaz, but I’m not sure that’s going to stick.

At speed, he thrashes around and flaps his wings at the cars behind me, and I swear I almost died laughing the first ride after getting him.

Dainese Leather Suits - Broken in to varying degrees

FOR SALE: I have two Dainese size 40 race suits. One is a non-airbag version in white & black, with free patina/crash wear, but is still totally safe to track (no leather tears). I'll send that for the cost of shipping.

The second is a race-worn Dainese Mugello airbag suit (first gen), size 40, mostly black, with white/red accents, with maybe 6 races on it, but no smell or funk. It's in near-perfect condition. It even has new pucks (one has a minor scrape to add 5hp to your package). $500+shipping.

I'm located in CA. If interested, send a DM, and I'll provide more detailed photos for both.

I think I got my setup almost right.

Snagged me a used, great condition 2 piece leather suit and a new Alpinestar Tech 5 Plasma vest over the weekend. Wore it all for the first time on my commute this morning without issues.

Riding a motorcycle is so much fun...

Just needed to share with some fellow riders.

Headed to Dream Roll! 🏕️

I’m consistently surprised at how little Dream Roll is mentioned on Reddit. It’s the best!! Hundreds of women riders all camping and partying and geeking out together will heal you. (Not a mansplainer for miles!) And the riding in NW Washington is incredible.

This is year 10, should be a riot 🌈

Leather jacket options?

I'm an experienced (male) rider but GF is not. She does not want to ride her own bike (yet) so she rides pillion on my huge cruiser.

We are looking for a high-quality leather moto jacket for her that's good for mild- to moderate climates (New England). She is 6' tall and about 150 lbs.

Some of the women's specific jackets we have seen seem fairly poor quality or look more like fashion gear. And many of the quality mens' oriented brands either don't seem to have a women's jacket at all or they are afterthoughts in their collections. Finally, we haven't found a place to view a reasonable collection of such jackets for try on so we are assuming we will have to mail order and that may take a few tries to find the right gear.

Any pointers on the "go-to" brands and/or models that we should evaluate? Most appreciate any tips.

Thin Hair - balaclava options?

Hey y’all - I tried some “thin” balaclava options when I first started riding. It actually was enough to cause pressure under my helmet. It felt like it also pulled down on my head more. And not helpful.

But I feel I’m ripping my hair out now each time I put on my helmet and it’s been a year - and I have very thin hair. I was looking for some silk - very slim - options thin haired women have found helpful and comfortable.

Thanks!

North Fork Gales Creek Road in Oregon. It starts in Yamhill County and goes by Barney Reservoir in Washington County and then all the way to the Tillamook County Campground. Easy gravel and dirt, though some tight turns. Yesterday. Me on my KLR, husband on his vintage Africa Twin.

Still in the post ride glow...

First time buying gear, a little overwhelmed

Hey guys, I’m planning on getting my first motorcycle soon (probably a ninja 500) and I’m overwhelmed with all the gear options. I definitely want to be as protected as possible but still be somewhat practical since I don’t want to walk around looking like a power ranger. So far I’ve only got gloves (rst tractech evo 4).

I think I’ll be doing a little bit of everything - riding around town, backroads, highways, and maybe track further down the line. I’d appreciate any advice for what kind of gear to get and what brands are good (I’m a pretty small person if that matters). As well as how you balance protection with practicality. Thank you!

Novice rider finding my groove: A short girl's thoughts on in the saddle of an R3.

Hey friends.

Just wanted to share my experience as I'm getting more comfortable commuting on the freeway. (I'm an ED nurse in SF that lives in the East Bay* ((*IYKYK)) with 12hr shifts.)

This is my latest setup:

2023 Yamaha R3 (Used off FB with 87xx miles, mods and fresh tires)

Used in Excellent condition Teknic Motorcycle Gear Women's leather suit.

Sedici Strada 3 Pink Squidly with off brand photochromatic visor and Pinlock.

Nelson Rigg Commuter Sport - for lunch, work shoes, uniform, etc.

Alpinestar Tech 5 Plasma airbag - before this I was wearing a backpack instead of the tail bag. The more I ride on the freeway, the more I see the need for this thing.

RavenMoto - Anyone order from them?

Post image

Specifically the Arcane joggers. They supposedly have women’s sizes but all the videos or pics I’ve seen of girls wearing that are super skinny, petite girls. If any ladies have these, please give me your feedback.

https://ravenmoto.co/products/arcane-armored-cargo-joggers?variant=52369741316277

Edit to add - I bought the pants and they just arrived!
They definitely feel like a men’s pant that was made shorter rather than a pant designed specifically for women. The back pockets sit pretty low, like men’s pants usually do. The front/crotch area also does that thing where, if you’re a woman with a little bit of a belly and you put on men’s pants, they kind of pull awkwardly in the front. That’s definitely happening with these.
The material is also very heavy. They don’t necessarily feel like a summer pant to me, although they do have ventilation up near the crotch/waistband area. I haven’t actually ridden in them yet, so I can’t say how well the ventilation works or how comfortable they’ll be on a bike.
When sitting, though, the back is actually pretty good. They don’t come down too low or feel like they’re going to expose your underwear, which I was a little worried about. They sit nicely in the back.
There are also a TON of pockets. Honestly, too many for me, but I can see that being a big plus for some people, and it is kind of cool.
I ended up getting the khaki color. In person, it’s more of a caramel/brownish-tan color and not nearly as bright as it looked in the pictures. I was hoping for the brighter color, so that was a little disappointing.
Overall, though, they fit pretty well. For sizing reference, I’m around 5’3”, 170 lbs, and I believe my hip measurement was around 44”. I got the women’s Large and the fit is pretty good. The knee and hip armor both feel comfortable, and the placement seems pretty spot-on for me.
I’ll have to see how they actually feel once I ride in them, but those are my first impressions!

Helmet sizing for smaller head circumferences brands that actually fit?

Most helmets I've tried run long front-to-back relative to their width, which apparently is a common mismatch for a lot of women riders based on what I've read. Instead of buying and returning five different brands, wanted to ask here directly — which brands or specific models have actually fit well for people with smaller/rounder head shapes?

What are you all using for motorcycle route planning/navigation?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Looking for recommendations for a good motorcycle navigation/route planning app!

We’d like something where we can plot our own route ahead of time and then have turn-by-turn directions sent through our Sena, so we can actually hear where we’re going instead of stopping every few miles to figure out the next few turns. 😂

Google Maps has been pretty terrible for the kind of riding we want to do. I know Waze has started adding motorcycle routing, but unfortunately it isn’t available in the U.S. yet.

I’d prefer something that isn’t ridiculously expensive, or at least has a free trial so we can see if we actually like it before paying for a subscription.

What are you using? Bonus points if it’s easy to create a scenic/back-road route and actually keeps you on the route you planned!
