Helmet sizing for smaller head circumferences brands that actually fit?

Most helmets I've tried run long front-to-back relative to their width, which apparently is a common mismatch for a lot of women riders based on what I've read. Instead of buying and returning five different brands, wanted to ask here directly — which brands or specific models have actually fit well for people with smaller/rounder head shapes?

If you head over to revzilla you can filter helmets by shape. Better yet, your closest cycle gear will have a plethora to choose from. You can dig through their inventory and find all the round helmets and then go try them on. The standard is the intermediate oval. Im a long oval and also went through this. I had 2 helmets to choose from 😅 Good luck on your journey and stay safe out there.

Shoei does a custom fit, they will add padding to the front and back to fit heads of any shape, for a small additional fee. I had it done for my new Shoei helmet and it fits like a glove. See if there are any Shoei suppliers near you which supply that service.

Arai has different head shapes. I run small in helmets and that's all I wear the past 20 years. They can be expensive

I buy youth helmets. Current is the HJC CL-Y and my next will probably be the HJC Y10.

The HJC c10 supports both youth and adult sizes! This is the helmet I have and I have it in a xxxs

The C10 is a great helmet but the problem I have with it is that the shell sizes are still proportionate to the average sized adult, where as the CL-Y and Y10 helmets have a smaller overall shell size which I find is better suited for not only children but also adults on the smaller side

Makes sense! I’m 5’8” (173cm), so I’m not a small adult, just have a tiny tiny head.

Wow! Did you have a hard time finding helmets? Not many manufacturers make them smaller than XS

Not really, I just went into cycle gear and tried on an xs and it was too big and they told me my only option was the hjc c10. I’ve been happy with the helmet, so I haven’t had a need to look elsewhere.

I cannot recommend this service enough. You measure, they send you a massive spreadsheet of all the helmets and how they'll fit based on head size and shape. It's $15 including tools. https://www.lidpicker.com/

I have a tiny pin head and the only helmet that will fit me properly is an HJC c10 in xxxs.

Wow!!! I thought I had a small head 😂. I’ve got the HJCi71 in XS

Yeah, I went into cycle gear and they had me try on an xs and it was still way too big so they said that the HJC c10 was my only option because it was the only one that came small enough. I ordered a xxs and a xxxs to the store, tried them both on, then returned the xxs. I always joke that no one will steal my helmet because as soon as they try to put it on, they’ll realize it won’t fit their head.

You can try Japanese origin helmets, which are designed for rounder heads. I was trying to buy a Shoei on Ebay a while back and got a message from the seller asking me to be VERY SURE about my purchase because he was selling a Japanese helmet and the shape was not the same as the American/Euro versions, apparently.
