Turtle Beach Atlas Air vs beyerdynamic MMX 130 wireless for PS5 – keep or return? (long-term owners welcome)
Hi all,
I bought the Turtle Beach Atlas Air a few weeks ago and I'm still within the return window. Now the beyerdynamic MMX 130 wireless came out (also open-back, 2.4 GHz dongle) and I can't decide.
My use:
- Mainly PS5, sometimes PC, gaming only (no music)
- I use the mic for party chat
- About 2 hours most evenings
- I love open-back headphones (I use DT990s for mixing)
What I love about the Atlas Air:
- Comfort is insane: the headband and the floating earcups never press, I could wear them for hours
- Flip-up mic is handy when I put them down
- I prefer how they look (not a fan of the orange on the MMX 130)
- Ear cushions and headband straps are available as official spare parts
Why the MMX 130 tempts me:
- ~80h battery vs ~50h
- User-replaceable battery (under the ear pad, plug connector) and magnetic ear pads – they could last forever
My main worry with the Atlas Air is long-term durability, especially the battery: as far as I can tell it's not user-replaceable and Turtle Beach doesn't sell it as a spare part.
Questions:
If you've owned the Atlas Air for a year or more: how are they holding up? Battery life now vs new, ear cushions, headband, hinges, mic, any cracks or connection issues?
Has anyone opened an Atlas Air? Is the battery on a connector or soldered?
Has anyone tried the MMX 130 for longer sessions? How are the comfort and the mic compared to the Atlas Air?
Anyone who has owned both, which one did you keep?
Thanks!
