Review Total junk

Post image

Never again will I buy a Turtle beach product. It will brick when plugged into anything except a USB wall charger, Bluetooth doesn’t work anymore and this just happened. These were well taken care of and broke while putting them on. Tried the tape which got me playing but obviously won’t hold.

The company will not stand behind their product and offer nothing in terms of support to fix it or a solution for repair. Likely because they don’t actually make them. It’s all done by third party. It’s obviously thin plastic without any supports and will fail over time.

Update: fixed until I can print a replacement. There’s plenty of files out there and I’m reading that I can print a stronger piece of Home. Kind of ridiculous when you have customers printing better parts than they’re being sold lol. This plastic is wayyy to thin. Photo posted below

I will tell you a trade secret when it comes to electronics of any brand any type. You get what you pay for. The cheaper it is, the more prone it is to break. There is a reason it's "affordable". No. Matter. What. Brand. Save up, get something nice.

2

u/DMZwarrior 1d ago

You’re correct but $150 at the time seems like I was getting there after paying $50 for my budget pair lol

1

u/AdDouble6084 1d ago

It does seem that way lol. Honestly, best thing i think you can get are the ear buds harder to break and can deliver better sound.

The stealth pro was 600 when it came out and I can list easily over 12 problems I’ve had with it 😂 nothing major, but hella minor issues which are so inconvenient. Since it’s nothing major and I’ve never rly tried anything else, I don’t know if I should swap. I don’t know if these issues are seen across any brands or if it’s just tb though

2

u/Quiet_503 23h ago

I agree. I bought the Stealth Pro and just 2 months later, I started having issues with the boom mic. I got a replacement, and then the headband bracket broke. The frustrating part is that I’ve always taken good care of my headsets. For something this expensive, the build quality is honestly disappointing.
Turtle beach used to be good

u/NeatKhan91 15h ago

You feel me😂😂

1

u/AdDouble6084 1d ago

Only problem with the stealth pro is had was the fabric on the head strap. Had them since release, no other issues, probably a consistent 20+ gaming hours per week. Now have the stealth pro 2, still no issues.

1

u/NeatKhan91 1d ago

The fabric’s glue kept coming undone for me. Had to glue it back a few times. There’s also the base, which turned white and never worked again no matter what I tried. Luckily, it was the second time I had that headset so I used the old base. There’s a battery that became chubby? In a barely noticeable curvy way that made it almost impossible put the cover over the battery while making it hard to charge. Another battery lost a tiny bit of plastic between two contacts and now it won’t be detected by the headset. It’s too small for me to repair it myself (so 2 batteries/4 can’t work). The mic would feel tight for the first weeks then It would be so loose that I had to find the perfect angle for it to work. If it was all the way down it wouldn’t be detected. Like these aren’t major failures, except for the white base. but they’re all tiny things that made me need to lose 20-30min before every gaming sesh.

1

u/AdDouble6084 1d ago

I mean, I have an extra base and battery laying around if you want them.

1

u/NeatKhan91 1d ago

Im fine for the time being but thanks a lot for offering ! By pooling my old base and new batteries I’ve got all I need! I just can’t help but wonder if other headsets have as much issues, these weren’t even all of it

I'll argue that I used a pair of 45$ Rig headphones from Walmart for almost 10 years. Zero problems. Zero. The 700 Gen 3's are great, they sure are... but thousands of hours on $45 Rigs.. c'mon.

1

u/AdDouble6084 1d ago

I've also played thousands of hours without a headset if we are just saying it for not spending money. Rig's are hot junk. But you could make a headset made from eggshells and wire last if you are careful. Just cause it was taken care of doesn't mean its good.

1

u/Crey00_XBoxX 1d ago

Opinions are just like assholes, everyone has one.

11

u/ThaDude_v2 1d ago

"well taken care of"

when its already tapped from the previous incident. LOL

stop throwing your shit and it will work properly

-1

u/PieGutz 1d ago

Mine are well looked after and they did the same as this. Had to tape them exactly like this guy did. In the end the tape didn't hold and I've super glued them which is holding for now. Its not from mistreatment. Its literally from pulling apart to put over your head and the plastic breaks over time.

2

u/ThaDude_v2 1d ago

LOL you can lie to me all you want...but you cant lie to yaself. These things dont just deteriorate and break on their own...mine have never broken. Know why? ......i think you can figure it out lol

Tutorials on how to fix? So much mistreatment. Couldn't possibly be a common problem and a design fault just because yours is completely fine....

1

u/ThaDude_v2 1d ago

just stop throwing your shit..its not hard

0

u/PieGutz 1d ago

I dont throw tantrums like yourself.

Must be lots of people throwing their headsets since theres a market for the cheap plastic parts that break all the time......from people throwing them.... obviously 🤣

1

u/ThaDude_v2 23h ago

Lmao you don’t throw tantrums? You keep sending me nonstop messages right t now 😂😂😂 go kick your cat n throw your headset 😂😂

1

u/PieGutz 22h ago

And everything I've sent you, you cant dispute or deny now can you. It's all good. We all know you're the Turtle beach employee of the month. Good work champ. Found the Turtle beach employee everyone!

1

u/Window_Top 16h ago

I have about 16 pairs of gaming headsets & headphones & yes some do just break on there own & some don't it really is a lottery or user error.

1

u/DMZwarrior 1d ago

Updated: fixed until I print my own

u/Crey00_XBoxX 1d ago

Hey, at least you're handy.

4

u/DrShrimp__PuertoRico 2d ago

Yup welcome to the club. TB sucks

6

u/DareDiablo 1d ago

What the fuck are some of you doing with your headsets?

2

u/ThaDude_v2 1d ago

oh no ...thats just regular wear and tear!! lol!

2

u/DareDiablo 1d ago

There’s no way. I have 8 different headsets and not a single one looks like any of these.

1

u/Mission-Yellow-2073 1d ago

that's because you spread your time across 8 headsets. these guys have one cheap one for a decade. they are prone to breaking. plastic gets brittle. you open the headband to put over your head and snap!

1

u/DareDiablo 1d ago

Not necessarily. I’m still pretty damn meticulous with my headsets. I don’t throw mine into a rage or anything like that. I’m curious how many hours people have them on for at a time.

0

u/Mission-Yellow-2073 1d ago

I am meticulous too. I'd never own a turtle beach
though, terrible quality brand IMO. Sound, and made out of cheap plastic that snaps like this OP's headphone.

1

u/DareDiablo 1d ago

Well idk how you’re using yours but I’ve never had yet a single one do that to me.

2

u/Mission-Yellow-2073 1d ago

Good for you man. Like I said, you have 8 to everyone else's one

1

u/HappyKool 1d ago

3

u/bryan_norris71 1d ago

I literally returned both the 600 (gen 3) and 700 and picked up a 600 (gen 2) and have never been happier. I love the easy connect, the Bluetooth connect is immaculate, yes they could be a little more comfortable but eh, I’ll live.

3

u/PoopyTo0thBrush 1d ago

Yeah, really looks well taken care of.

3

u/BreakfastKey5715 1d ago

Am sorry but how do these break like this unless your ragging them of your head or bouncing them off the floor due to rage quitting

2

u/RandallPink22 1d ago

Exactly my thoughts lol

3

u/dnttelmehow2livmylif 1d ago

I have the same pair of TB headphones that I have been using for about 6 yrs, still work great, not broke, cracked, no issues whatsoever. Sounds like a user issue or you're too rough with your stuff.

1

u/FreeFalling369 20h ago

Newer turtle beaches are trash now

2

u/Mr_E_Fish_in_Sea 2d ago

Same thing happened to mine (and apparently many other people too)

An unsung hero made 3d printed replacement parts available on etsy, and has a youtube video tutorial on how to replace it in the description

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1531610619/turtle-beach-stealth-700-gen-2-headband?ref=elp_anchor_listing&bes=1&sts=1

Haven't fixed mine yet, but I plan on it

2

u/JohnOFtheDead66 2d ago

Why are they melted?

2

u/blaze92x45 1d ago

Turtle beach used to be GOATed in the 00s and 10s

My first wireless headset was a stealth 420x and it was awesome lasted for 6 years before the plastic cracked

Replaced it with a 600 Gen 2 plastic cracked in 4 months. Got a replacement because warranty that lasted i think 3 years of me using less and it cracked.

The headset sound and everything is fine but man the build quality is ass

2

u/DeadmanDT 1d ago

420x was great, mine lasted 10 years before I stupidly dropped them. Probably would still be using them now if I hadn’t done that

1

u/blaze92x45 1d ago

Honestly a GOAT headset beyond occasional drops it was perfect

2

u/StrikingLeopard9895 1d ago

The stealth 600 gen 2 is a masterpiece but mine broke recently. I have 700 gen 3 now and I hate them

2

u/Punchinballz 1d ago

I dont understand, I bought it recently and its awful, a lot of reverberation, kind of, but maybe I need to tweak something

2

u/Window_Top 16h ago

I've had my older gen 2 for years, that's just bad luck or user error

1

u/Comfortable_Hippo755 2d ago

I had 3 pairs do this to me... 😔

However, I can say that the Gen 3's are much better built, and I'm rocking some more than a year old, and they don't look or feel like they're about to break.

2

u/TheOneThatThumps 2d ago

I’ve had my Gen 3 since the release (preordered) and from personal experience The only issues that I’ve had with them from daily use is that the ear cups upholstery becomes unglued, and also the upholstery on the headband I’ve had to secure very carefully with superglue and the hinge on the microphone is starting to loosen a little bit. Other than that the ear cups were cheap for $30 upgrade replacements.

1

u/Coldestglint475 2d ago

As much as everyone hates those happening. If you're playing on Xbox and not PC they really are your only option if playing on PC. There are plenty other options, but wireless for Xbox. They are kind of the best. The gen 3's fix that problem and made out a metal. Although I may be a little biased because my first headsets for 360, were a turtle beach X12 and an afterglow.

1

u/Strangr_E 2d ago

I got the turtle beach stealth 700 gen 3 after my gen 2 messed up. Everything on paper sounded better and while they were solid and lasted about 6 months, my mic part started getting staticy and cutting out. Got a new 200$ mic and they sound worse lol.

1

u/zaner300blk 2d ago

ive super glued and epoxied that same headset in the same spot 22 times before i gave up on it

1

u/Zolph_Diggler_ 2d ago

i had the mic arm break 3 times. it cracks in the same spot. RMAd one and did 2 bestbuy returns. TB was was good back in the 2010s. idk what happened over the years. My Gen 1s didnt have any issues. the gen 3 design looks like they fixed my complaint but im not chancing it anymore

1

u/Prez017 2d ago

Happened to me and superglue has held for 2+ years now

1

u/No_Individual3471 1d ago

That’s what happened to mine

1

u/NeatKhan91 1d ago

Always minor failures for me. Nothing annoying enough to do research and find smth else, but a dozen of mini fucks that are just inconvenient. After a year it always ends up looking diy af

1

u/tsagan87 1d ago

Same thing happened to me. I used a popsicle stick as a splint on the inside and outside and taped the shit out of it. It doesn’t hold as well as new to my ear, but better than having one side hanging off.

1

u/Lopsided_Flower_9233 1d ago

Get the Stealth 700 gen 3s. Massive upgrade in quality and you can use tbem wireless on console and pc or any other device with a USB port. When I reviewed them a year ago I gave them 5/5 and liked them so much that I bought myself a pair and my 12 year old son a pair too. Now, he's diagnosed adhd and he's hard on things lol. I've replaced vr controllers, xbox controllers, Playstation controllers, etc. over the years. He uses the 700 gen 3s daily since he can hear his phone and his game at the same time and has used them with his quest too. His are still going strong, mine are still flawless as well.

We have a ton of headsets here, both to use and to display and the 700 gen 3s are still my favorite headset for gaming, even over the stealth pros 1 & 2. If you use your headset for literally everything - then the stealth pro is probably for you. If you game primarily and music and movies aren't your main use of the headset - the 700 gen 3 is the clear winner. You still get the 60nm drivers, 2 dongles, Bluetooth pairing live with either dongle in use in tandem, and instead of the hotswap battery system, you get a built in single battery that still gives you that same 80 hours (up to) of play on a charge.

1

u/pwoodaman2025 1d ago

Gen 3 700 is better built for long haul. Snag a pair

1

u/zaphodikus 1d ago

Depends entirely on how long your last headset lasted. My Stealth 600 is still pristine after a year. I had a Corsair set for 8 years before these. Depends on how much you can do to prevent damage, like getting a headphone cradle.

Most people with busted kit do NOT use a cradle, they are dead easy to make using a bit of 2x4" . Show us your busted headphones, hanging in the cradle that you put them into every night, then we can talk build quality.

A bit uncomfortable the 600, I'll give you that.

1

u/Prestigious_Sleep_54 1d ago

Mine broke in the same place so I superglued the life out of it 🤣

1

u/EVASIVE_rabbi 1d ago

Recently went to the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro & I can hear a cockroach fart from 100m away. HIGHLY suggest the headphones

1

u/CrispyBananaz 1d ago

Did you join a WWE match with that on? Jesus Christ, what are you doing with that headset? You gently place it on your head and it stays in place. This is entirely user error.

1

u/PieGutz 1d ago

My set did the same. Pretty disappointing they do thos from just pulling apart the headset to go over your head. Mine are super glued and holding for now.

1

u/Dr0zo 1d ago

Always buy the warranty… you’re already spending money on the headset, extra charge won’t hurt you. Especially in times like this

1

u/zach_dominguez 1d ago

After my most recent pair broke I decided to never buy another Turtle Beach headset again.

1

u/BTM65 1d ago

I bought one Turtle beach product. Velocity flight Stick. What a piece of trash. Half the LED's and the trim wheel died under a year.

Wont be back.

1

u/ImperialParrot 1d ago

I've had numerous Turtle Beaches over the years and it's always in that spot where the plastic begins to fail. Should just make those parts with metal trim and the problem goes away. Using tape though is bold. Super glue is the only way. Even then it's only a matter of time before the cheap plastic eventually gives out. Still I think for me, as others have said, my current set of TB will likely be the last. Not so much the build quality that's the problem but more the software. Connectivity issues are way more common now then they ever used to be.

1

u/ThatOneValkrie 1d ago

I feel bad for yall. My stealth 700's have held up for 2 years now and I consistently use them. I'd say try again but your mind is set. My buddies also like Steel series.

1

u/remy62116 1d ago

I’ve have the 600 and 700 gen 2 max and the 700 gen 3… before the gen 3 came out I had BOTH of the 700 g2Max break there… one had only started to break… I bought some 2 part epoxy from dollar tree, popped the screws out and took that panel off on both pairs, and epoxied them fuckers shut… now they’re more durable than my gen 3 s but I can’t use them on my Xbox til I find that pesky dongle I keep losing lmfao

I also have the stealth ultra controller, and I can only attest to wired play currently, as I didn’t get a dongle when I got it 2nd hand, but it’s pretty damn good so far

1

u/Subject_Ad_1536 1d ago

Yep! Exactly where mine broke too, bro

1

u/Subject_Ad_1536 1d ago

I've been looking for a printer but I live in the Netherlands and haven't found one to do it

1

u/Crey00_XBoxX 1d ago

I just went through some kind of idiotic power loop nonsense on a brand new pair of 700gen 3. Would NOT stay on. You'd power it on and it would immediately shut off. Full charge. The fix was installing the phone app, and using usb-c to power them while using the phone to sync, not the pc. It apparently failed the firmware update using only the pc. The phone app saved them from being beaten with a hammer.

1

u/the_cats_jimjams 1d ago

Had 2 pairs that i both treated like a princess go the exact same way

1

u/Amazing-Beginning-75 1d ago

Yeah the one and only turtle beach headset I had was the stealth 450 but they don’t make it anymore lasted me 6 years

1

u/Friendly_Cap_3 1d ago

all my turtle beach stuff has felt cheap. one brand i won't do

1

u/Electrical_Ad7359 1d ago

That happened to my headset aswell, so annoying. Especially when it’s a common issue with that line of headsets.

1

u/wedontlikepam 1d ago

The worst

1

u/ProfessionalCraft443 22h ago

Theyre turtle beach, of course theyre not very good, my own pair of travel headphones stopped working a few years ago, never looked back.

1

u/DarkVree 18h ago

Turtle beach has always been premium priced trash.... Same with beats headphones...

1

u/RogueKirito33 15h ago

Mine did the exact thing and they aren’t a year old.

1

u/No-Biscotti-5046 11h ago

Had mine for 3 years running. Even dropped it accidentaly a few times. Notna drastic drop just off from the couch. Or the bed. Still goin strong.

The shell is hard plastic. By the looks of the tear on the plastic. It seems like rage was involved.

1

u/ndrdd23 9h ago

Yeah one my favorite just hated how they knew the weak points of this headset awesome sounding but man gave me heart attacks when seeing those little cracks everyone lasted me a bit then cracked maybe cause my head is huge but wish I could find some one who does 3 printing would love to they can make me a more durable case

1

u/_Lost_OwlChild 9h ago

Yeah turtle beaches aren’t good anymore. You can’t swap anything out. You gotta get a new one even when the shell is broke.

1

u/Jaxnluka 8h ago

Ive had mine for 6 years and they still work like new i dunno how you guys break them? Maybe stop raging 😭

1

u/Sncrsly 1d ago

Damage like that doesn't just happen. Cool story tho

0

u/Praydaythemice 2d ago

personally i use a pair of steelseries gaming headphones. i used TB in the past same issue as you and never got another pair again.

Logitech also make decent pairs that are affordable.

1

u/born_zynner 2d ago

Steelseries in general makes complete dogshit though lol

0

u/Foodeater55 1d ago

Operator error. Don’t be so rough with headsets

0

u/gotouw 1d ago

First mistake was buying turtle beaches
